A random thing about Owlites and Gremlins created in the depths of my mind.

Owlites were the original creators of elemental weapons, armors, and shields, right?

So how do Gremlins deal elemental damage and use elemental weapons?

Before the spookats completely DESTROYED the owlites were the owlites and gremlins in an alliance?

Is that why gremlins are weak of shadow (afraid)

because it could possibly end them one day?

I DON'T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE

Slow down there. Just because

Slow down there. Just because Owlites created elemental weapons and gear doesn't mean they're the only ones who could've/can. The Gremlins probably developed their own sources of elemental damage and defense, or learned from the Owlites themselves.

The rest of your post seems very um... speculative. ._.

Actually, I've had a similar idea about the Owlites and Gremlins. I thought that the point of this post was for speculation. Here's my 2 cents:
It's said that the gremlins, specifically King Tinkizar, was the creator/s of the Clockworks. The Owlites, being the wisest (and one of the only sentient beings) in the land offered their aid. But why create the Clockworks in the first place? The Recon Squad speculated that the Clockworks were built to protect the Core, but what does the Core need protecting from? Well, from the Recon Modules, we all know that the Void has been trying to overtake the Core, and for quite some time. The Core feared for its existence, so it sought out the only two creatures that had the knowledge and capability to protect it. In exchange for giving them an unlimited source of power, the gremlins and Owlites were tasked with the job of creating the ultimate security system. Unfortunately, after the demise of the Owlites, King Tinkizar went mad. Many of his citizens speculate to this day whether it's from the loss of dear allies and friends or from the power lust. Some even speculate that he was behind the attack against the Owlites, tricking the hungry kats into devouring the Owlites. No one knows...

And then...

Lord vana sacrificed his soul to keep the fire lit, after casting out his son herex who lives to this day in search of his own core.

/end stupid

Much as I love lore, this has more farfetch'd in it than dark cave had zubats. All this speculation is great and it's a grand theory to a point, but solid evidence is lacking, the less assumptions required, the stronger a theory is. By all means convince me that this theory is correct though.

.

Elemental is everything that isn't blunt force trauma, penetrating blows, or dark magic.

Elemental is a LOT of stuff. Fire, ice, poison, shock, general untyped energy, holy magic, etc. The owlites might have had a monopoly on elemental MAGIC, but not on elemental forces.

-Fang of Vog is the....fang.....of....vog....Vog wasn't either a gremlin or an owlite, right?
-Crystal shards are just a piece of rock with c4 inside and they do elemental. Is moonstone a fossilized owlite then?
-Shock deals elemental damage. Then what? is electricity the twisted soul of a gremlin wandering in the material world?
-Is there a small gremlin trapped inside quicksilvers? Is that the reason they deal elemental when they overcharge?

Same damage types proves nothing.

Don't read so far into simple

Don't read so far into simple things because it's just a game and there is no reason to think there is a purpose for every little thing. In fact most games have really awkward plot holes.

So...

Don't have fun? All of my speculations (and I'm sure everyone else's) are all in good fun. We're not being seerus, it's just something to fiddle around with until we get the new updates or preview them in the beta server (depends on if you're a paid user or not.)

Ahhh, but you're all

Ahhh, but you're all forgetting two things.

1) How did plats and life get supported on Cradle? The sprites mentioned in 9-2 Alone in the Dark and 9-3 The King of Ashes (Firestorm Citadel) depth 25 (level 2).

2) The echo stones in the Sanctuary (as Nepetatheleo stated but mistook them for recon modules) also give slight detail. The Shadow Lair version of the new boss might give us the answers we need.

Well then........

Hahn: "These monsters inflict elemental damage."
Us: "You mean like, magic and stuff?"
Hahn: "No, actually.........."

Actually, Hahn, it is kind of like magic.

To start off with my explanations, I will talk about the 3 main areas of attack.

Similar to the 4 temperaments, there are 3 main ways of attack. First off, is piercing, and I don't just mean in Spiral Knights. Piercing basically means to hit where it will hurt, in the weak spot, and since fear is generated off of weakness, it greatly ties in with it. The next is force. Force is basically full on attack. If you can't find a way around the wall (piercing), then break it. Last, is fear, a very complex component. It 'is' basically fear. Using it against your enemies means scaring them, such as blackmail, threats, and such. You can find examples of these in many places. In Team Fortress 2 (if you've played it), the offensive classes, you'll notice, have the most ways of killing, in a way, and can hit you in many ways. The defensive classes tend to be the most powerful of the classes. And support contains the classes you fear, I mean, why do you look behind your back every now and then? In Spiral Knights, it isn't greatly emphasized, but it can be easy to tell, piercing is piercing, force is elemental, being one of the strongest types, and fear is shadow. So, yeah.

Now that I'm done with that, let's move on. Well, there isn't much to say, but, notice how there are 2 types of elemental weapons. The ancient, and the gremlin. The ancient includes such as the Antigua and Avenger, and you'll see that they tie into shadow, noting the relationship between owlite and kats (although the Blackhawk does extra damage against gremlins, which is odd. It could be possibly that gremlins were also enemies of owlites, or the undead, I mean, they do have ties with the swarm and are to makers of the clockworks). And with the gremlins, there is the rocket hammer, pulsar, and such, such modern like weapons. See the difference? My take is either a. Both somehow made the power and became one of the most powerful rulers of the clockworks because of it, or b. The owlites (or gremlins, although having owlites first makes it have much more sense) made the power, but being enemies with the gremlins, the gremlins harvested the power too (if they were enemies, I somehow bet that owlites were weak to elemental, even though they were defeated by shadow). But since the gremlins didn't harvest the power enough correctly, they couldn't make their machines immune to it. This also ties in with the fact that owlites made elemental and the undead are weak to it............. Also, I'm pretty sure that the undead somehow harvested the power of elemental and, changed it (silversix and avenger). Although saying that would make it believe that owlites were weak to shadow, even though I don't believe that, unless they made it to fight gremlins, which, makes a little sense, ish, explaining why the Blackhawk is awesome against gremlins. If the undead and gremlins are enemies, that would explain why howitzers and zombies are being mutated in killing machines. The conclusion: lumbers are TRAITORS

"Elemental, my dear...."

@Xtweeter

That's really simple. The Core is the planet's sorce of energy, supporting all life on Cradle. That's why the gremlins and Owlites were so willing to protect it: if the Core is destroyed or corrupted, all life on Cradle would die with it.
Also, I keep forgetting that they're called Echo Stones.

Gremlins are decked up with elemental damage, elemental defence and fire resistance, and shock resistance because they're constantly grinding Vanaduke, just like we are.

Duh.

Personally, I thought it was cause they work with Constructs, who deal elemental damage. So if there's ever a robot uprising, the Gremins will have plenty of defense :o Or just safety at work.

@Canine

My own theory is that the Owlites aren't actually owls, but humanoid figure with wings. Wings like owls. Also, Owlites who survived Great Kataclysm/Katastrophe = changed into Valkyrie .-.
