Here we go an official PVP suggestion thread, it's been confirmed that we are getting PVP so let those suggestions roll in.

Here are mine.

Maybe one where you fight to the death for hardcores?

AS for the name how does Spiral Gladiator Arena sound? We could charge admission fees, bet on matches, and charge a participation buy in fee.

Good stuff skype, i agree that we should have a mix of both casual game types, and hardercore as well.

I'd like to contribute 2 ideas for gametypes:

1. Iron Cage Match.
I actually have been toying with the idea of a Team based cage match type of PvP battle. Using those spinning door trigger gears to lock 'rooms' and having to step on buttons to unlock. Maybe 4-5 rooms. The general theme being that as a team you'd want to try and sheild bash your opponents into a room and lock the room so that you could either isolate your team mates vs theirs with a good match-up==say locking someone with a granfaust in a room vs someone with no shadow defense, or try to lock a player into a room by himself giving you advantages in numbers.

2. Mob warfare
You are the prestigious leader of an army of mobs! It is your job to choose a group of 10 mobs from existing enemies to battle it out. I don't know whether you would actually participate in the battle (i'm thinking maybe not, but then maybe yes-it's hard to balance the hypothetical). The mobs would have to have some sort of limitations--x number of healers permited, x number of t3/t2/t1 enemies. Do i want to use my healer as my only t3 mob??? Those menders are strong but what's if my opponent brings in several shadow damage dealers!!??

variation: Gotta catch'em all. This could even open up some sort of monster acquiring system, and maybe you would have to somehow 'catch' the mob in the clockworks before it could be a part of your army! haha Buy your 3* 4* 5* capture bombs/guns here!!!

I was thinking it could be a hardcore, hardcore mode. Like you die and you are dead. Obviously ce is tied to the account so you wouldn't lose it but you would lose the character.

Even though I always get a black screen in the middle of an arcade fight, and disappoint and annoy the heck out of my team-mates, make them lose, and abuse my computer, I think they might all understand soon 8D
And I think there should be this option where it says PRACTICE, where you can play everything but gain no rewards, something to do when you have no energy left than just staring at the screen.

*Add Capture The Flag & this other thing where you kill as much monsters as you can before dying with your team-mates.

Why was this topic so far bumped down? This should be getting mad hits. It's PVP related and we are 100% getting PVP because Nick asked us if we wanted it, which means they have thought about it.

Oh yeah!! PVP

I want PVP gladiator style. An arena much like the colosseum with spectators watching and betting would be cool. Warriors selecting their battle gear from a cache of weaponry and armor only available to the arena. And some cool battle music playing getting the warriors ready for battle.

Some vague thoughts I have...

Capture the flag! With classes!

Now I know this is a classless game. (For the most part, I know you can choose swords,guns,bombs). But to keep the arena from just being avengers and fausts and probably vogcub. There could be class based CTF you pick Gunner, Bomber, Swordsman. Each one has tier 2 armor and weapons. You can find pick ups in the map or maybe if you get lots of kills you upgrade? Just some thoughts i've barely put together.

Spiral Ball Premise: Players

Premise: Players push an agitated slime through the opposing teams goal.
Players: 4-8
Field: A large oval with goals on opposite quarters protected by a penalty box forcefield.
Time: 3-6 minute rounds
Rules: Attacks knockback and phase but dont damage enemy players. (The spiral ball and traps can deal damage though) After each score players reset for a face off. The ball can be smashed apart, and reformed. with the smaller parts scoring less points and the larger pieces scoring more.

Dodge...Players are pitted against one another to see who will be the last one standing by dodging fireballs and other projectiles.

The modes will be free-for-all, 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4.

Seconding the idea for Dodge. Players could start on a central platform, with more and more gunpuppies spawning as time goes on.

I'd love to see some indirect PVP, instead of just the usual various colors of "hit the other team until they die".

I don't mean deathmatch is bad

What I mean is because this a new game without classes or massive amounts of gear, everyone would use the same gear and it would be boring.

I don't really agree with than Alien.

This game has just enough gear to fill out all the damage resistance types and more than enough weapons to do the same, what this means is PvP gearing will be about knowing what weapons are good against you and armors you're good against. Since theres 3 types of weapons and and inside each type there are multiple styles of attacks, PvP will be incredibly dynamic.

If everyone has Vog, then DA won't be the best weapon. Folks would likely wear lots of varied gear for status resists and not having major weaknesses.

I'm late to this thread, but

I'm late to this thread, but I hope it's read and considered by developers, as PvP is such a big deal to me. How PvP is implemented will make or break the game for me, and I'm not alone on this boat. What are players gonna do when they're done farming their gear and tokens? PvP. I play games almost solely to PvP. The longevity of this game is very much linked to this PvP. A little info of me: I've played Bloodline Champions, Heroes of Newerth, Counterstrike 1.5, Ultima Online, Darkfall, Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates for 4 years on Midnight, and Starcraft 2. I've played these games hardcore. I'm biased, but I know my stuff when it comes to PvP.

The utmost important thing that needs to happen is separating people by gear, preferably star level. This DOES NOT mean "You can't pvp in 5 star gear." It means having different levels. 2nd most important thing is the ability to wager: you need to be able to put your money where your mouth is. This breeds competition and gives you rewards for being good, without adding more crowns into the game. Right off the bat, we're looking at 4 levels of gear, each level having its own wager:

Level 1: 0-1 Star gear allowed. 50 crown entrance fee as a crown sink. / An additional mode to wager 250 crowns.
Level 2: 0-3 Star gear allowed. 100 crown entrance fee. / A mode to wager 500 crowns.
Level 3: 0-4 Star gear allowed. 150 crown entrance fee. / A mode to wager 1000 crowns.
Level 4: 0-5 Star gear allowed. 200 crown entrance fee. / A mode to wager 2500 crowns. Note: The separation of 4 star and 5 star gear is necessary.

In addition, if we're going the group-based PvP route, especially if there are wagers, we need to be able to pick our teammates. If it's only the "First 8 players to queue gets in a game" format, there WILL be collusion, and the PvP will fail. This is so extremely vital. Personally, I will not play team based PvP where I cannot pick my teammates. That will absolutely ruin it for many players who take PvP seriously.

Let's talk modes. I think there should be the 3 basic: Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, and Team Deathmatch. CTF and KotH are fairly self-explanatory. For Team Deathmatch, something like 3 or 5 deaths per player would be fantastic. I personally believe that there shouldn't be anymore than these basic 3. With more options, it becomes harder to find a game.

I've heard that players died way too fast back in the day, because damage was so high. If this is true, then I'd suggest a 50-75% damage nerf across the board when fighting in PvP. This will make games longer and be more newbie-friendly without taking away from the skill needed.

Lastly, a bi-monthly player leaderboard would be very awesome: Have the reward for being top dog some sort of costume that perishes in 14 days.

All of this would make PvP extremely competitive and encourage skill and dedication. Also, with the crown sinks: the more players playing, the better the game's economy, a predicament which is great considering this would serve as a tremendous crown sink that this game desperately needs.

PS: Something to keep in mind: Don't worry too much about PvP balance. Let the players balance it. There is all sorts of armor and sword types in this game that whatever is deemed "overpowered" will be eventually weeded out from counters for it. You will never have to nerf particular gears for PvP, because you already have amazing groundwork in this game that will allow. Also, please please PLEASE don't add artificial handicaps and discourage skill.

Handicap - Dodge the Jelly Knight or Lord Vanaduke while you herd big fat snipes!
VS - Vanila Snipe Herding.
Dodge - Dodge Bullets, Zombies, Shadows, SPINNING JELLY KING and LORD VANADUKE while herding that adorable little things!
Don't Touch The Snipes! - How long can YOU go without touching a snipe?
Insane Hardcore Mode - You can only live once before YOU DIE. Can you herd all the snipes before then?

Racing would have to involve teamwork based "puzzles" where you have to split up and monster killing. And ??? from there lol.

I saw the idea of a beastbook on another thread, well a "Beastbook"/"Knightbook" would be awesome in PvP. Listing all the Knights you've slain :)

Obviously there should be a dueling system, if for no other reason than for people to test out how certain gear compares in PvP to other gear, melee vs. ranged, etc.

And if you have PvP, people are not going to be happy unless there is an elimination style arena mode, which is the core of any PvP game. Team developed fighting, be it guild vs. guild, party vs. party, it would be all about how many gunners, bombers, melee fighters, gear, what resistances to stack, and team strategy. Lots of potential here and I think if there is no arena PvP, then the developers are going to disappoint a lot of people.

Capture the flag has some interesting things here as, unlike most MMOs that are not true action MMOs, traps and obstacles would play a huge part and could make for plenty of very interesting strategy.

I think as long as the develepers start from a core of these types of PvP matches, they can't go wrong.

I do love several other mini-game type PvP ideas here as well.

This was the first thing that came to mind once I noticed there were guilds -- there needs to be PvP. There has to be an option to have alliances and rivalries and even being able to single one person out. Maybe in the drop-down menu when you right-click on another knight, have an option to "call out" or "challenge" them to a PvP match. Add that dynamic for those guys that steal all the loot you were going for during a group run. And maybe a penalty for not accepting the match so it can be more of a honors system. Eventually nobody will want to do runs with certain players because they're thieves/scammers.

I agree with Krokgar on the notion that we shouldn't have a lot of different game types because it will be harder to actually set up a game. At least at first, we should just do death match, CTF and KotH, and once the PvP really picks up well with everyone, add a few more. Maybe when there are more than enough of the 3 basic games being played, we could add some more.

Also, PvP gaming would be very useful for testing people that want to join a guild. Brings me back to the days of Starcraft lol.

A missing aspect in an MMO

It doesn't matter what game it is there should always be PvP in there so that players can test themselves against others. When I found that this game didn't have it I became determined to find a way to get it in. There are several possible ways it could be done but there must be, at bare minimum, a 1v1, a team (teams don't have to be even), and a guild match. There could be betting on the matches and spectator modes. As for location, there is an open field just off the main path heading from the town square to the bazzar. A simple building addition there could open it up to another clockworks path.

I love the name GodofSkype1, Spiral Gladiator Arena sounds great.

I think along those lines, having a ranked 1v1 bracket would be nice, so that people could improve their skills with 1v1 duels, and have a tangible rank reward. And yes, it would need all the normal safeguards vs people who just sit at the top and stop playing, rank points, etc. But I'd love to be able to rank myself against other players, even if I end up finding out I need to greatly improve my skills, even if it reset every 2 weeks (as was previously suggested)

I also think PvEvP deserves a mention, as simultaneously running a dungeon with hostile players can be loads of fun, and also very difficult. Having a race to the elevator on slightly adapted normal level, in which you of course would have the option to just kill the other team, but you could also knock monsters into them and rush through the level after each other.

I am VERY excited about PvP, and its potential to diversify the gear choices among players.

My one big anti-suggestion would be to make it cost a lot of crowns or energy, unless there were cheaper modes available. I think the only thing that would turn people off would be charging 1000 crowns for a 3 minute match, or the energy equivalent, as playtime would get cut, and it'd become a niche interest rather than a main part of the game.

Mirrorminx is very right in the last paragraph. The arena should definitely NOT cost a lot of crowns. Also, there should be monthly/bi-monthly challenges that allow the winner to earn prizes in crowns or energy or special equipment or other things.

So far ...there are alot of good points here.....i like the ideas ......its a little weird to do all of these with the snipe thing ....but i think there should be at least some snipe based challenge of some sort ......and during team vs team ...there should be a given (or chosen) colored arrow on top of the team players so that confusion would be avoided........i think we should NOT have friendly-fire though.......just saying ...if ppl would suggest this..........

Perhaps like 20 crowns or something, with payouts up to 50 crowns, but with all winnings totaling to less than what was paid.

Also, we need HARDCORE pvp. Mario party minigames can come later. Having both would be great, but traditional pvp should be higher on the list of priorities.

all of those should have up to 10 players at a time,and the winer(s) should win a boatload of crystals and shards, crowns, and Battle Tickets (BT), a currecy used by the PVP matches for prizes like crafting materials, recipes, even more crowns, energy saving trinkets(http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/9561), and my idea: perma-trinket slots cost:500 BT,5k crowns, and 150 energy, which permentaly opens a slot but can only buy it once and use it once,

What bothers me is that most offensive UVs will be pretty much useless in PvP:

If people want to be the best, they'll completely avoid damage vs gremlins, beasts, undead, slimes, fiend and construct and definitely go for increased charge, attack speed and damage.
That's 7 out of 10 UVs that will be mostly ignored, seems kinda... inefficient.

How about Importing War of Emperium to this. Instead it'll be called War of Minerals.

Guilds start with no Castles and have to conquer them:
Guilds maintain castles until defeated by other guilds.
To obtain a castle one has to go into a room and break a single mineral that takes.... iunno 100 hits? maybe 200? more? Room is also gaurded by Other guilds or if unconquered by monsters.

We should have 3 PvP

We should have 3 PvP modes:

Player vs Player
Guild vs Guild
Snipe Herding

PvP to take place in a pit of monsters, to spice up the fun. The players are only equipped with the starting armor and nothing more (costume slots are not affected). Monsters drop vials, gear and health when defeated. Last one standing wins. Team Deathmatch should be the same.

...Come to think of it, it's basically a repurposed Arena level.

Dungeon Attack: Two knights square off in either a dungeon level or an Arena. In this level, there are not just monsters, but monster SPAWNERS and a lot of throwable things like fire pots. The goal is to get to the elevator or defeat of the other knight.

Dungeon Run: Two teams square off to finish a dungeon delve first. No modifications necessary.

Guild vs Guild can take so many forms, it's crazy. Someone mentioned Ragnarok Online's War of Emperium. I quite like the idea, but some of the ideas seem a bit inappropriate for SK. So instead of capturing castles, we capture strategic points, much like how TF2 does it. Capturing all these points opens the Guildhall, which the opposing guild has to capture (by standing IN the Hall) for a set period of time.

Another way we could do GvG is make it a larger Arena-style deathmatch, though this requires a LOT of server stress-testing. Or perhaps a GvG Boss Rush?

I have an interesting idea

Hello i was thinking they could have something like a big screen in front of the arenas and when you click on it you could watch the match, they could show the scores and have an exit button at the bottom of the screen so you can stop watching at anytime. I think this is a really good idea thanks.(sorry if this has already been mentioned)
