Revise Unbind Mechanic to remove unnecessary risk

So I was recently scammed by player Macken when I paid him the unbind fee for a weapon (alt of player Abcdz/General-Gio apparently, but I cannot confirm). He has moved the node to french bazaar to avoid attention.
I understand that I clearly took the risk of paying the unbind fee upfront and got the short end of the stick. But then I thought, well, why is the unbind mechanic made so unnecessarily risky?
You should be paying the fee to rebind unbound weapons, and unbinds should be free.
This allows you to trade unbound weapons for their full value (minus the fee) upfront and the buyer needs to pay the fee (for example, 4000 energy) to rebind the weapon. The net exchange of energy between players would be the same, and there would be no risk of needing to perform one-sided trades at risk of losing unbind fee.

This is interesting, but how would it work with weapon drops, crafted 3* and below weapons, and other ways of getting unbound weapons without trading?

The re-binding fee is just that: it's a fee for rebinding items that were unbound. Crafted items were never initially bound, so nothing changes for them. Same for weapon drops.
The item would simply be flagged in a way much like items are flagged as bound right now (blue diamond, for example). Could be flagged as a red diamond to indicate this item requires the rebinding fee.

An excellent idea, Momo. I'll be posting my own idea as well for alternatives and linking back to this. This risk of unbinding for a sale is just plain awful.

I was skeptical too, always a risky thing to do when paying unbind upfront to someone who's not know in the trade community. :/ Well, if it sounds too good to be true it will be, I guess. Sorry to hear about the loss, man. +1 to the suggestion, make it easier for traders, not everyone has 4kce to pay upfront and not everyone should have to take a risk everytime.

Thanks. The node in question has been removed and GMs were very helpful in returning my CE. However, the suggestion still remains--paying to unbind upfront is an unnecessary risk.
Sciger has a similar idea that's probably better, and Hexzyle built upon it too. We should be allowed to put bound items into the trade menu and allow the other player to confirm/check to unbind during the trade itself. It's unnecessary to require Vise to be there at all, but from a GUI standpoint you can make it seem like he showed up out of nowhere to help unbind.
Doesn't make "sense" if you really want Vise to always be there for unbinding, but knights already do their own Forging on the fly and shopping at the Supply Depot on the fly, so there's really no reason why unbinds can't be done via trade GUI as well.

Correct. And a very gentle GM scolding about not to be too trusting next time. But I am still very much in favor of a revised trading mechanic so that players can pay for unbind at the trade menu.
Vise should have an Anvil next to him that allows a special Trade Window for two players. The Window would look similar as the normal Window, but would allow you to put Bound Items in. As the Bound Item(s) is/are placed by one player, an Energy fee is shown & increases with more Bound items put in. Once the Trade is complete, the Player's Energy would be depleted by the amount of Energy necessary to Unbound the Item(s) & the item(s) will automatically be placed in the Player's Inventory Bound. The Player who originally had the Item would receive the Item(s)(if placed) by the Player who payed for the Unbind fee.
