SK damage types are in real life (I would go further but I don't want to sound gruesome or offensive)

NORMAL Punches, kicks, getting clubbed (may cause stun), scratched, anything else that relates,

PIERCING Bee stings, stabs, needles, spike-leafed-plants, animal fangs, cactus, bullets,

ELEMENTAL Electrocution (also causes shock), Fire (also causes fire), tasers (also causes shock), cold places with no warm wear (also causes freeze), explosives (may cause fire), stars in outer space, flashbang grenades (split normal/elemental. Also causes stun),

SHADOW My cat's litterbox every few hours over a room-wide radius (also causes poison), carbon monoxide (imminent poison), drowning (split shadow/normal), any song from Justin Bieber (also causes curse), toxic gas, emissions from a vehicle's exhaust pipe,

SIDE NOTE: When cutting the oleander bushes at the side of my house with my survival knife (with the help of my dad), I DID sort of get some poisonous liquid on it. So yes, in real life, I have a makeshift Dread Venom Striker. Go nuts :P

Once this gets a bit more popularity, I'll add a few more facts.

@Mitnet Thats the point. Can you smell and see carbon monoxide as it kills you? No. Your lizard is killing you.

Yes, your lizard is a secret spy to kill you. You must twist his neck before you...FINISH HIM. FATALITY.

What would a Furious Flamberge represent? What about Venom Veiler? DVS? Triglav? Sealed Sword charges? Do litter boxes inflict Curse? Drakon with a Shadow Harness? The 1* Proto Guns? Plague Needle? VP? Callahan? The 1* Proto Bombs? Swagger Storm? Shocking Salt Bomb? Vials? Barriers?

How interesting

This is one of the first things I noticed while playing Spiral Knights. It has decent real world logic, but defies video game logic.

This is about real-life things on Earth. The weapons already make sense as they are.

Furious Flamberge: A flaming knife.
Venom Veiler: Your leaking gas tank.
DVS: Your 1000 year old bread knife
Triglav: The baseball bat you accidentally froze in the fridge.
Sealed Sword Charges: Your television
Cursed Litter Boxes: Yes
Drakon with Shadow Harness: Your pet lizard that emits mysterious odors from its rear.
One star proto guns: Water gun
Plague Needle: Your machinegun nerf gun you accidently smudged with liquid acid hydroxide.
VP? what is the VP?
Callahan: Your usual nail gun.
One star proto bomb: You filled a bag with water and you throw it
Swagger Storm: Your super-swag disco ball
Shocking Salt Bomb: Your salt container
Vials: Obvious
Barriers: Uuuhhhh

A bite from a King Cobra would be Piercing followed by poison. I think King Cobras are poisonous. Correct me if I'm wrong.

When you're this swag this world just bows at your knees

You made the obvious mistake of thinking Fire, Shock, and Freeze = Elemental

ISB, RSS, VPB, Flamberge, Triglav, WG and PF would like to have a word with you.
Elemental means any sort of energy-based damaged. Of course, since shock is due to some sort of electrical weapon, it only makes sense why it deals elemental damage, and is commonly attached to elemental weapons. Fire can be caused by high temperatures, which is sometimes a result of a large amount of energy in one area, but not exclusive to. The process of lowering the temperature of a substance does require energy to conduct, but the sub-zero polymer used to cause the Freeze status does not actually contain much energy itself. The damage is caused by the projectile containing this polymer.

So Fire and Shock are not immediately elemental damage statuses, but they are loosely related to elemental damage by nature, so they appear on those weapons more often than not.

Sleep is pretty simple to explain. When a monster or Knight is inflicted with sleep, they fall asleep (so yeah, it's actually what you think it is)
This is reinforced by the fact that Constructs cannot be inflicted with sleep.
The knight's armor seems to have a function inbuilt into it that begins to auto-repair when not in use.

agree with Hexzyle

I agree with Hexzyle. The original post seems to confuse damage types with status effects. The two have essentially nothing to do with each other. Among weapons that cause poison, there are normal, piercing, elemental, and shadow. Among weapons that cause fire, there are normal, piercing, and elemental. And so on.
