My theory is that there are

My theory is that there are complete civilizations on the surface of Cradle, and that the Clockworks were merely a place made underground when there wasn't room for any more expansion on the surface.

So, I think Mount Krampus is on the surface, yes.

We do know that there are snow covered mountains at the southern pole of Cradle. I'd say it's possible, there would certainly be elevators going to surface locations.
But then again, it could just be in one of those clockwork spheres.

It's on depth 24. How can it be on the surface?

Were Outside in the Inside

IMO I believe Mt Krampus is an ancient hollowed out Volcano. With Elevators in the inside of the cavity.

If you look at the image that

If you look at the image that displays when the game is patching you can see Mt Krampus on the lower right region.

Since it's on D24/D25 and we take the elevator up, the only logical explanation is that we take the elevator up into a wormhole that leads to D24.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

Blaumph: that, my dear, is a cloud. besides, the image was created way before all this, so it's sure not that.
about depth: it's probably the equivalent of our depths in difficulty; we should be aware of what's coming to us.

Yeah...

OOO could've done better... Because the floors are labelled wrong, and it mixes things up a bit... Mount Krampus is on the surface like Haven, but the elevators should be going up, not down.

The gate map was made redundantly inaccurate when OCH came out. When it comes to elevators going up, the Gate Map can't be trusted.

So that means..

If we reach the edge of outer space, we unlock the core!

The entire mountain is sideways!

There must just be a gate spinning SO FAST that the spinny-force keeps the whole mountain's gravity at a right angle to normal. If you stand on mount Krampus and look towards the top of the screen, you'd be looking in the direction of Cradle's core. That's why the depth meter gets deeper as you get farther up the mountain.

The depth meter is merely an indication of how difficult the monsters are. Nothing less, nothing more.

A better question would be: Is it even cannon?
