Please take me seriously. I have experience in business, psychology, and speech. If the spiral knight's developers read this, please try to contact me. Maybe through my email if possible. This is not a joke by the way. I really love this game, and I know how you guys can make more money to fund this game. I'm not really interested in pay, willing to take anything.
I want to get a job working for this game.
No offence there but what would SK benefit in someone with "business experience" (this is a video game company we are talking about), psychology (again, it's a video game company...) and speech?
I am a certified technicien IT first level... I can repair most common PC problem or get the info on how to fix it, I can benefit OOO if their PC goes wrong but most of their employee are located at home, working over the internet and fixing PC via internet is hard...er
If you really want to apply for OOO you better know a thing or two about informatic...
Again no offence, it's just things I have to point out... Not that you couldn't make it into OOO office, just really unlikely with your profile and OOO business model
I don't really believe you're as experienced as you say:
"I have experience in business, psychology, and speech." If you really had true experience in any of these, you'd realize that OOO doesn't take application through the forums or email. You have to contact them yourselves and it's usually a real-life job with a few side exceptions. No person would ever say "Contact me" if anywhere on the forums.
"I'm not really interested in pay, willing to take anything." -- No one willing to work would ever say this.
There's a few other things but I'm kinda doing something.
If you want to be taken seriously, maybe you should actually apply and submit a resume. Oh and here's a tip on that: the forums aren't the place to do that.
I do not take offense to the things you say. Let me point out some things. Even if you can play spiral knights for free, you can still pay real money to buy CE and other things. <----This right here is business. This game cannot run forever if there isn't enough people buying CE. To be honest, it is really hard to get a job in the gaming field. But I do believe it is possible. More will be explained if you're willing to listen to what I have to say. Again, I respect your thoughts, and you should respect mine.
My whole idea, was to get you guys to help me, by telling me what to do. And thank you for telling me that I should submit a resume. Really do appreciate it.
Even if you can play spiral knights for free, you can still pay real money to buy CE and other things. <----This right here is business
No that is marketing... and Free to play game... they have a business model behind it... and I doubt you can even grasp how SK economy actually work... There is much more to a business than money... and putting out winterfest promotion during the winter is kinda obvious... I doubt they need to hire someone to tell them that...
What would you bring to OOO... pratically? Tell them when to do promotions? tell them how to manage their game...?
I'm willing to listen and learn. If you guys do help me and I do get in the job somehow. I promise I will remember any help I get. I'm willing to work for free because I do have some income already. But why not take someone who works for free? What do you have to lose there, really?
My questions are:
1) How much do they pay?
2) Is the payment type hourly or salary?
The reason I am posting this, is because I do believe I have million dollar ideas. "What would you bring to OOO... pratically? Tell them when to do promotions? tell them how to manage their game...?" <----- this is not what I had in mind. I do have some suggestions that were not mentioned in the suggestions forums. But I will not share it with everybody so easily. <---- This right here is what I had in mind.
What would you bring to OOO... pratically?
A lot of people spend time just eiditng the wiki and doesn't ask for a job there... they just do it because they want to...
I do want a job in the gaming industry, that's why I study in informatic and keeps programming on the side, because I love it... I don't do it because I want to play video games all day, I love what I do and I do it because I love it.
If you want to pierce into the gaming world, you have to know informatic, that's basic... even my dad who's a project manager had to know coding and programming to be able to manage a team into making an apps or rehauling a whole website...
Speech and psychology are useless in gaming industry, you know it, I know it. We all know it... You can't just knock on the door and say "sup I want a job" and expect to get one. You clean yourself, get a tie (or well dressed) and you make a resume, meet the CEO (or whoever hires you), know how to properly shake someone hands and proceed to your interview...
There's no shortcut... If you put your energy and effort into it, people will see it and will help you. But if you do nothing, nobody will help you.
Edit: And there is no million dollars idea in this industry... only people who think they have million dollars opinions...
I respect the kind of background you have there. But I am mature enough, not to say that you didn't accomplish those things. I will come back to this topic later to discuss with you.
If you think you have what it takes, you should click this link.
You can't be serious posting a job application here. No business at all will take in a job applicant from an online forums, even Mcdonalds wouldn't do so. My first concern is your experience, if you have experience, you wouldn't be posting here. My suggestion, whether you are a troll or not, is to queue up through the proper channels, everyone needs money okay?
People must stop assuming that the gaming industry are getting paid through the nose. They are not your top of the mill abstract artists who earn millions of dollars from some paint splashed onto fabric. As a company, the only way OOO's gonna get more money is to propose to its publisher, and usually it's granted in favor if OOO have to pay for more personnel, equipment, and not for the sake of "want more money". If you have learnt business, you should have understood that in the least.
As for shamanananana, psychology is well respected for game design, speech-wise, only if someone is looking for voice actors, and that takes a huge portfolio. Gaming is art in every sense, game design, literature, visual and audio are all welcome, business, economics, marketing too, but they always require the evidence to go along with it.
I left the game industry, quite bitter at F2P business models, (relatively) lower pay, and long hours. The tradeoff for such things are usually doing a job or project that you're passionate about. I figured if I was doing neither, then I should look elsewhere, and now I'm much happier for it.
If anything, it sounds more like you're going for a designer role, but those tend to be very scarce and masses of people aim for those roles. Lead designers drive the direction of entire project teams - they need to be able to balance making decisions that are fun, backing up their suggestions with how features improve the game quality or can be used to make more money (because making a new feature means allocating programmers and artists towards them), and be able to communicate their ideas. Psychology and all that might be useful in figuring out how to justify your choices to higher-ups, too.
...but can you prototype your ideas, translate between artists and programmer needs?
You also probably wouldn't be working on Spiral Knights full-time - when game companies hire it's usually because a new project is on its way.
I'm sorry to say, but using the forums to try to get into a game company for anything outside a GM application is very likely a lost cause. Heck, I have done/am currently using Java quite a bit and thought about trying for Three Rings myself in the past (when Spiral Knights was a newer project) but I would have gone through their normal application process.
Anyway, I'm starting to ramble, but having seen the darkness and gotten out, the best suggestion is for you to find a team and make your own project. Making your own projects shows you're more than just talk (in the game industry, actual ability is worth far more than degrees - I knew an Illustration major who self-taught programming and was more knowledgable + coded cleaner than CS majors I knew in college), and you can use them as talking points in an interview. Also, if your own project gets put out on market (say, if you went via iOS / app store) and actually took off, then you have extra income and BAM, you're a real indie game developer. Your own projects are your proof of yourself.
Artists, programmers, sound designers, musicians, and especially designers all need portfolio pieces - projects they've worked on with other people or on their own time to prove to potential employers that they can do what they claim.
If you've got experience in "business", "psychology", and "speech" outside of classroom hours, applying them to actual projects, then you'll know exactly how they'd tie into a real game project. Heck, I can say I know about all 3 myself, having observed my previous company, taken classes, and having done my share of writing, but having worked in the game industry and also working on my own projects on the side, I already saw practical uses for those and molded them into a "game designer" role.
¬_¬ well. Sorry if that was a little spiky, but I'm still quite bitter about the game industry. I know not all game companies have the terrible oppressive atmosphere that mine did, but ey, I hope Three Rings is an enjoyable group of people.
I won't wish you luck because I'd rather you not naively run into a wall, but here's to learning something in the process.
Please take me seriously.
We'll take you seriously as soon as you take the subforums and appropriate job applying seriously.
Talking to the community for a job in the company is not just silly, but rather unprofessional. The thread implies that you (thread creator) are asking Three Rings for a job working on projects when what you really want is a volunteer job. I would love to volunteer and collaborate with the Spiral Knights community managers, but I would send an email to Three Rings if I wanted to officially help their team. As of now, I'll stick to playing their game and trying to be a happy face.
As many others have said, you must contact Three Rings for anything to happen (you don't ask grocery shoppers for a job at the grocery store), however I will say that asking on the forums was a mistake. I would think someone well-versed in psychology would know this, but you might know something that I don't. Regardless, I wish you luck with future endeavors!
I really am not here to say I am better than anyone. But people like you are the type who like to shut down potential. Go ahead and compare your 50 degrees to my experience. I'll just go to the 99cents store and buy a pack of 100sheet papers and it's worth double of what you have. Really now, I didn't ask to boast about reputation. If you do really want to compare to me, apply for a job in this game and lets see who gets picked.
Thank you your help is really appreciated. At least you did me some favor by giving me ideas of where to go.
Well, from your current retorts, it doesn't seem like you have much maturity. I put that bluntly. Also, why do you post repeatedly in succession? You could just do this:
@Shamanalah
[blah blah]
@Sleepy-Hollows
[Other blah]
It doesn't exactly convey the impression of experience and such, you know.
Also, why are you applying here? Why not e-mail them, or call them, or do some background research before applying?
"Oh hey I wanna work for a company, better apply via the gaming forums without references and argue with other players on the thread."
Scirio makes a point here; why didn't you submit a resume, if you claim to have so much experience? Surely you'd have someone vouch for your abilities.
Obvious troll is obvious.
-Can't respect an opinon.
-Posted on forums.
-Posts irrelevant business skills.
-Much more nonsense.
Dude. I don't think Three Rings will accept a thirteen year old.
Heck, I don't think OOO is accepting GM positions either. The link Not-Hollows provided-
Wait, Sleep-Hollows-
was for the general overall games. Doesn't OOO have like 5 games?
my cv for ooo

We are not shutting down potential, we are suggesting that the forums is never the best place to apply for a job, and this applies to everyone. If you think any of you have what it takes, then get off the forums, write a legible and sensible email to OOO, and ensure you have all the qualifications. If you are looking for an internship, you might find a better chance to work with them, if that's what you are looking for, since you are "not interested in pay".
In his defense to all of those you who say he is applying on the forums... this thread isn't his application or resume. It's a thread expressing his desire to do things for OOO. So stop shooting false statements if you yourself are 13.
I must express that I am a little confused though. From what I understand, you say you want to work for OOO by giving them ideas (I'm assuming they are for Spiral Knights only). You say that you won't share those ideas with everyone so easily either. And you don't want pay. You will give them the ideas for free. So... why not just email them or something so that your ideas aren't made public but OOO still knows about them...?
As for this: But why not take someone who works for free? What do you have to lose there, really? Well... if the said person working for free was more of a hindrance to productivity than help... well I hope you get the point there. Also, if you were a boss (or manager) hiring people and someone said they would work for free, you might be a little suspicious of that person and his motives. Another aspect: From my past experience at my former place of employment, we weren't allowed to "work for free." Basically we weren't allowed to work off the clock (clock out and keep working for a while or vice versa). I'm sure it had something to do with liability/legal/regulation stuff or something like that. The point is... working for free isn't likely to happen.
" If the spiral knight's developers read this, please try to contact me. "
I don't see how that qualifies as "a thread expressing his desire to do things for OOO".
And a little offtopic: why do you guys think psychology is irrelevant? That thing is more powerful than you think.
http://www.threerings.net/jobs/
Two jobs currently available, but it doesn't look like any are for your skillset.
How can I become a Game Master?
Three Rings is not currently taking applications for new Game Masters. The job of Game Master is a hired, paid, real-life job that you have to apply and interview for. To apply to be a Game Master, you must be 18 years of age or older at the time of your application. This is non-negotiable, as U.S. contract law regards any contract signed by a person under the age of 18 as non-binding. Three Rings also considers factors including, but not limited to: the applicant's disciplinary history in Spiral Knights knowledge of Spiral Knights' features and community communication skills Sorry, Three Rings cannot accept volunteers in this capacity.
In other words. No job for you. Even if there were spots, you don't have a disisplinary history, judging by the way you treat Cryd.
There's more to game developers than game masters, and unfortunately game masters aren't even that high on the totem pole. Although it is true that it won't be possible to get hired for a job until 18 considering OOO is an American-based company, internships do exist. That might be what he is looking for judging by his post (doesn't mention any prior experience which is almost necessary in the current industry) and the line: "I'm not really interested in pay, willing to take anything."
Forgot to put that into consideration. But either way you require a good disiplinary SK history.
Even if I do not get a job just know that I will still try to help this game by spreading word of mouth
The dev team is much more valuable than the Gamemasters. They can put more food on the table than anywhere else.
Well, they say the Community Managers, like Eurydice, are often the least-paid and deal with a tricky situation; how to placate angry forumers without spoiling anything. But that's a whole other topic.
And if you don't want pay, why don't you put your suggestions in the Suggestions subforum? There's a few experienced veterans who roam that section and might point out a way it could be improved; what's the secrecy for?
I am not a poor person in my real life. I do little things for the game such as spreading word of mouth to everybody I know out there. I encourage people to buy in game products to support this game. Basically it's like putting tip in their tip jar. Make sense?
I believe anything even remotely related to publishing the game goes to the hands of SEGA, and they pretty much doesn't care.
You aren't the first one to do this. That really isn't enough to consider yourself ready to market the game. Do you have any new ideas to bring to the table? If so, what are they? What can you do to make the game more noticed that would be free for Three Rings?
You need to be ready and intuitive to market your product. Look at Old Spice's marketing team: they know their target audience, and are able to market to them in such a way that people not in their market can view commercials as a source of entertainment.Minecraft's explosion of popularity came from their playerbase, and videos flooded YouTube. That is marketing.
I like his attitude and, even though the forum is not place for a resume, I believe he could get a job at three rings and that you should not discourage him. How can Three Rings get people to buy things unlesss they understand people? (Phycology) How could they figure out what is worth what? (Buisness) How can they make a good sales pitch without being able to communicate properly? (speech) I think this person could work for Three Rings and that none of you should discourage him. I have tried, and still do try, to do things like this and I do not care what you say. I will try and I do not see why he should not be able to either.
fennir, I'd like to try to talk to you not considering you an alt. please forgive me.
gaming forums are to discuss games, not application for jobs, how can you apply for a job, ect. that goes with the company. the company is not in the gaming forums, but in their site and, in lesser extenct, in the support section of the games.
that being said, this is the internet. I can say that I have leet skillz in everything. saying you have experience in certain matters is valued less than nothing. that's why there are applications for the jobs. you can't go and say "I want this work in this company because I have these experiences and this diploma". they must test you and accept you. gaming forums and support sections of them are not the place to go; how can we take seriously someone who doesn't know where to go to apply to a job nobody asked for?
This is like applying for a job as a traveling salesman when he shows up at your door.
Greetings,

Sry mate, Nick only employ dwarfs.
