At first: If you don't see this thread soon anymore, they have deleted it because of telling the truth or some other poor choosen reason. Please read my TL;DR at the end of my text if you don't like reading textwalls.

Hello everyone. It's really time that the community (you!) wakes up and sees what OOO (Sega) is doing with us. Again another delay of an gameplay update, while they have absolutely no problems adding more and more and more priceboxes and permanently banning innocent people due to their security holes and incompetence. Video proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZYaWjA5w8g < someone made a joke and got banned. I hope you will find these people which got a forever ban by buying something from the auctionhouse.

What were the biggest changes in 2013? Let me think... dash and shieldbash, Battle Sprites, and two holiday missions, that's almost all. When was the Gunner update announced? That was September, now we have almost February. That are almost 5 months! And people keep supporting their "work"? Yeah, everyone company needs money, I'm not denying it, but do you have watched what has happened before Sega has acquired them in the middle of 2011? OOO had so much done for us, Snarbolax boss, Roarmulus Twins boss, Candlestick Keep, Shadow Lairs, and so on... and this only in 6 months!

2012 was more or less a good year too, but since 2013 it went terrible, and it has showed what Sega has done to OOO. They use them to milk the money out of the company, since there are obviously enough people here which like to spend tons of money for simple costumes and reskins. And some people don't even want content anymore, they want new priceboxes! Is this the new point of the game? A new cash grab costume simulator where content updates are now only secondary? This isn't the OOO anymore which we have known, and Nick has proven why he left, even though he didn't say the reason. But you could imagine now what the real reason was. But I would like to say:

Stop giving them money for doing nothing! Wake up!

A serious question to all people which spend a lot money here: Do you seriously enjoy using this game as a costume simulator, with a content-poor environment? Do costumes and reskins really make you that happy?

If they would really care about the game, they would involve the community into the game development, like Valve and some companies do. It would save them so much work, the game would have a lot more levels, items, game modes, and so on... but there is no sign that they care about that. Priceboxes and money are a lot more important.
The perfect proof: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Promotional_Items

TL;DR: Stop spending money for no reason, Sega has turned OOO into a money-milking company for them. Content updates are incredible rare now and pricebox promotions have a lot higher priority, obviously making them unable working for content updates. And free elevators don't make them poor, this has also just happened because they have feared of their reputation. The same when they have censored the forums all the way a few weeks ago, instead of telling us what has happened.

Graveyard it! Quickly!

Before everyone says that you should shut up, because you are scaring other new players away! Go! They will say you are making the forums a worse place and you should get out, and say that somewhere else! They will say that they don't appreciate your attitude, and that they don't need your opinion! Oh right. They would say that OOO has little to work with, and Sega is the reason why they don't update! Oh right. Too late. Get out. NOW.

"Stop spending money for no reason, Sega has turned OOO into a money-milking company for them."

Good for them. There's this thing called "fun", and Spiral Knights does it pretty well. People will always be willing to support something as long as it's at the very least somewhat entertaining and/or fun.

The team that works on Spiral Knights is relatively small. These large spaces between updates should be expected, and to be honest I'm glad they're even releasing them as fast as they are currently. Gunner update is announced for September? Yeah, they pushed it back for various reasons, and hopefully one of them is so that it doesn't turn out to be a total piece of garbage because they rushed it. I'd personally rather see quality work than some rushed piece of junk. All these promotions are to keep us busy while they work on a huge game-changing project, and you can not hate them for that. This isn't some huge staff that can make a new update within days of being announced, things take time.

No.1 Your video proof of the guy being banned is in no correlation with what you've said. He was banned because he acted like a scammer, of which the community has no tolerance over. It's like jailing someone for making a bomb threat joke on Facebook (Yes, it can happen, it will happen and it has happened before).

No.2 Whilst I agree that the game is like a costume party, I think most of us here know it is. Well, we couldn't care less anyway.

No.3 Sega earns all the money, OOO has to listen to them, Sega gives OOO fixed pays, it's the same thing over again.

Be careful, this post could include personal opinion!

@Zaffy-Laffy Unfortunalety I wasn't able to find videos from people which got a permanent ban because they bought duplicated items from the auction house. But even this should give us a warning, since items look all the same and they handle innocent people so rigourous.

@Blazzberry Yeah, I'm so ignorant that I'm not appreciating their really hard work, adding 4 more guns which are already in the content are really absolutely overdifficult for someone.

I'm sorry if I don't reply, but I need to spend time on games which don't want require farming and playing the same levels for 1000 times because there are so less levels.

If you don't want to pay money into this game, just leave, or get ten of your friends to play. If you really want to see these types of promos go away the game will need more active players so that it has more active payers!

Say what you wish, this game is, to many, fun, and people will always support games they feel are fun, no matter to what extent. Also, could you not do the dramatic "You! SEGA's fault! We must do this!" thing? We're a bunch of peers, not a group you're delivering a sales pitch to.

"Stop giving them money for doing nothing!", you say.

What, so the government can take it instead? And you DO know that they have a small developer team, and not every staff member is a coder with 30 years of technical experience, right?

And the delay in the game update is fine. I would rather have a good commission of my character that takes weeks to create rather than a 30 second pencil sketch of it, or a peanut, no matter how good the peanut is. Plus, there's this thing called balance; releasing or changing things too quickly has led to bad consequences; Chaos is rampant, the Blitz/Strike is rampant, Brandishes are rampant, health trinkets are rampant, etc.

Whereas you Twitter are already breaking the first rule of the internet; stop the repetition of those "wut unbalance" threads. Have fun.

Fashama, the issue with reskins is that it's so darn hard thinking of original gun ideas. We already have ricochet, gatling gun, standard, and cannon. What more is there that can be quickly and easily programmed in without being unbalanced?

@Sandwich-Potato: They could

@Sandwich-Potato: They could start involving the community into their game development as I have already stated above, ignoring my argument doesn't make their lazyness valid. And I have seen a few small developer teams which have done a lot more than here. But keep believing your illusion, the awaking will hurt bad. By the way, I would like to thank you for writing in a kind way, this also saves you from their ban hammer.

@Xtweeterx: Yep, using your right of free speech is a terrible offense. And banning is one of the things which they can do very well.

@Spiruy I gave them more money than you are thinking, believe me, but they always scream for more. I would like to see serious answers what you are doing all the time in the game, besides farming levels like Royal Jelly or Vanaduke or repetitive PVP where animation-canceling counts as skill (?!).

@OP - You sir have a serious case of obsession. Dude chill, you seriously need to take a break from the game. Live life for a change, smell the flowers, view the sky, and lessen your pathetic obsession with the game. I seriously doubt that you don't have real life stuff to do so yeah, do that and just for the mean time and w8 patiently for the update like everybody else. I know where you're coming from but you don't have to take on this kind of whinny baby attitude :/

TL;DR - No offense meant here but my advice? W.A.I.T, yes, wait... because that's really all you can do without making a fool out of yourself. Because honestly? Will it really kill you if you had to wait?

@Bitsbee Yeah, free speech

@Bitsbee Yeah, free speech was always bad. And Edward Snowden was a terrible man because he had revealed what our lovely secret services are doing. /sarcasm-end

And I have still no answer what people are doing in this game when they already know really everything.

@Launcel The question is, there are people out there which work extremely hard for maybe 1500$ per month, and then there are these companies which have a collected a base of people which would never think that their favorite company would do anything bad and that releasing a few small things over one year does absolutely justify an income of maybe 50.000$ per month. Don't worry, I'm chilled, but please do think at least one moment why you are here if you still know everything and when you saw how slowly they do release content in comparison of promotion priceboxes. Is that really worth your money waiting a lot of months?

I second Bitsbee. The last thing we need is politics thrown in here.

Fashama, OOO tried that out with the Suggestions. Here's what happened.

dual wieldin plz ooo make this happen times a hundred. Same with magic.

plz ooo remove the radiants forge times thirty. Previously, with Shining.

plz ooo i want to heel my team times fifty.

People just spammed the same suggestions over and over, without paying heed to the fact that they had been repeated dozens of times. There were only a few worthwhile suggestions. The Coliseum, Guild Halls, a few new monsters, Luguiru's dictionary of a suggestion, and a few others.

Oh, also, their ban hammer is not nearly as banny as you think. No more than the government, at least.

@Sandwich-Potato:

@Sandwich-Potato: Suggestions... yeah, that's kind, but what does it really change? Sadly not as much as we believe. I had learned German in my school and I was looking in the German forums, where someone said that his girlfriend got >permanently< banned because she had accepted a trade with duplicated items. This has happened with several people as well. Is that worth the money?

I really would like to know why the people don't want to see a level editor but more priceboxes?! And please, it's not impossible. Other games have proven that so well, but I believe they would also ban you for advertisement.

Have you seen SOE? Sony games? My god, their games have so much things to do with real-world money. Their game, Free Realms, was one example. That game is a trap.

@Phantomhamachi: Tell me where I had said the word "saving". And this new players argument is probably also the reason why they will maybe remove this thread, especially because 99% of new players don't even give a [bad word] about the forums or terms of service. And I believe new players have a right to know in which kind of game this game has turned into.

@Glad-Amparus: You are right, but less-bad behavior doesn't make it much better.

I still have no answer what you are doing all the time in this game or some other questions. I also hate to say that I need to go now, but please take care of yourself and watch out if you decide to spend money for anything. All right Carl, cross off "Be reasonable" as my plan for threads like these.

This does it.

I believe that we have the right to not have to deal with irritating threads like these, especially because the forums isn't where most newbies go to.

Thus, your statement about newbies having a right to know is invalid. You want them to know? Post that in zone chat in Haven. Not here.

Bad is a comparison relative to the items being compared. If one item is "less bad" than another, then the term "good" is applicable here. OOO is "good" compared to another, thus making it more favorable. Humans commit bad deeds and less-bad deeds, but think the less-bad deeds are good because there's worse ones. So don't use relative terms like bad and good when discussing the merits of something independent of all comparisons.

You say that OOO is bad here, bad there, and ignore the point where we said that there's not really any new ideas which have been brought up by either the community or OOO itself.

Yeah, free speech was always bad. And Edward Snowden was a terrible man because he had revealed what our lovely secret services are doing.

First off, another bad thing when there's nothing compared to. I believe this is bad compared to other things. That was a joke. Ha ha. I'm so funny.

Second off, then I guess you can walk into a crowded theater, yell "FIRE!!!", and risk the lives of a bunch of innocents as they trample each other running out in a blind panic. "Oh but I was using my first rights so there haha."

I really would like to know why the people don't want to see a level editor

I bet you any number of anything in the game that 80 or more of the first 100 maps will be something like "elevator 200 red boxes haven".

Don't bring up other games. SK isn't one of those "other games". It's a whole different genre. If you can't tell the difference between Spiral Knights and, say, World of Warcraft, then you don't know this game.

No, this could be easily avoided by turning on a brain and disabling gifts, or that only a very limited number of gifts are placeable. Please, you need to think out of the box. A good made loot and drop system would prevent abuse of this editor, for example more enemies = less loot and crowns. Neverwinter Online has shown how good this is possible, it's absolutely no witchcraft. But according your answer, this wouldn't be possible in this game. And this won't be possible with reskins.

I'm definitely awake. Perhaps you should stop dreaming?

TL;DR: Stop spending money for no reason, Sega has turned OOO into a money-milking company for them[citation required Note #1]. The same when they have censored the forums[citation required Note #5] all the way a few weeks ago, instead of telling us what has happened[citation required Note #6].

There, all the bold are my corrections. It looks like you have some research to be doing.

Notes:
1. Proper citation would be identifying the cash flow to the company. I doubt you have access to this information. Also correct me if I'm wrong. Sega published SK from day 1 of it's release. Yes, they didn't own OOO until Nov 17th of that year, but they still had a big hand in what was happening.
2. Compared to what? How rare? I would say rolling a 1 on a 6 sided die is rare. I would also say that rolling a 1 on a 1000 sided die would be rare. But if I were to compare the two, the 1000 sided die is more rare.
3. Do you know how many people are on OOO's dev staff? Do you know how long they spend making the cosmetic items? Do you know how long they spend making new content? Didn't think so.
4. What gave you that idea? Link please. If this is about the low score on some random "f2p-game reviewer"... what makes you think they can get re-reviewed? You made the claim. YOU provide the information detailed enough for me to understand.
5. This thread is still alive. Perhaps the threads deleted had rampant rulebreaking.
6. "Fixed a security issue with the web launcher." This might have something to do with it. IF they haven't fixed it yet I HOPE they don't tell us because then there will be more. What developer in their right mind would inform the players how they can cheat in the game?

Sorry, your complaint thread scored a 7 on my scale of 1(horrible)-100(excellent) in effectively communicating. All I see are unsupported claims and slander from a ranting player upset about the game.

Cause my name would've been clean off the database... I had a 6 months break and lot of people take break from SK to come back, cleaning the names of the database is still a laughable idea in the world of SK, this is not WOW or D3, this is SK (so tempted to write sparta...)

And if you know anything about how hard level editor are to make, you wouldn't even be asking for it. It took TL2 and Runic Games 10 months (if not more) of constant work to make a level editor that was good enough for an average user to use. They are a small team and were counting on that from Day 1, that was their goal. It takes way more time and way more effort than your mind can imagine to turn multiple software into a single one and make a 11 years old use it.

This Thread is quite laughable...

I double what you say, skeptic. To add on, OOO's just doing what they want to do. If they had wanted more money, they would have move on to a more prospective career. Game developing is not easy, nor high-ranking or high-paying. I highly doubt that Sega is paying OOO that much, or even earning that much.

I don't mind waiting for updates, there are other games to play too. If you only have SK in your game list, then I recommend you to go check out free flash games on armorgames.com, or kongregate.com, or look for other MMOGs. TF2, Starcraft 2, heck there are a lot more free games out there.

You've opened my eyes! I'm stopping to give money to OOO right now.

Oh, wait, I forgot, I've never spent a buck on promotional items.

In fact, you are seriously overestimating the amount of donators in the game. Most users play it because it's free to play, and many of those most don't have access to real money at all (it's basically a kids' game, if you remember).

However, even if this thin layer of people follows your advice and halts their donations, the game will simply die for the lack of money. Maintaining an MMO infrastructure and running a business is far from being cheap and easy.

I was disappointed, of course, when the Gunner Update got delayed again, but for me this delay also means two important things:

1) The Gunner Update is not really the main content of the Gunner Update (sounds funny, indeed). Even if you are a very lazy programmer / designer / etc, you simply cannot be developing a moderately sized bunch of guns (which are mostly based upon already existing models) for half a year. It means that they are busy with something else to include into the update: new T3 boss, Arcade redux #2, etc.

2) The release of the update will depend upon its readiness and not upon certain deadlines. I have some beta testing experience with security software, and this experience has clearly shown that products suffer immensely when their developers are on a tight schedule. They just never had enough time to make things right, and their software has been becoming worse and worse every year.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

ah, these "wake up" claims are just crap. I know it, I'm italian, I heard of that a billion times in politics. sigh.

I just had a trip into the home section of the website, and I can see that they released more promo costumes that you take into account. also, (jumping the fact that early developing for a game is way, way easier cause you have more ideas) the things they added when the game was just released are the base. those are simple, little things that made the game what it was (AH, energy blasts when reviving, and missions). creating something in a world that is rather empty is simple. fixing it, or add something original to a world that has many things inside it, is hard. I mean, look at the suggestion subforum: good, original, and thought out suggestions are not so easy to find and develop, and those are only ideas.

you still don't seem to get the fun point of the argument. people play the game becasue it's fun, and besides speeding things up, they buy energy cause they think OOO deserves it. come on, where do you think that all that ce in the trade market comes from? if everyone would buy ce to spend it right away, ce wouldn't be so tradable, cause it would be much rarer.

I do the arcade mostly, and I'm fine with it. sure, the game has its problems, but I don't see critical flaws in OOO's reason to act like they did (exception: missions and shard bombs).

well, in the end, all I see is that you don't like OOO course of action in the last period. if you want advice, leave the game. play something else and return when you are ready. I don't think that what has come up here is a product of a single event, it's a thought out answer to an issue you see. I saw you in my early days of foruming and I can tell that you aren't just showing up or trolling. problem is, the proof you are providing, in our point of view, is next to none. but since you are sure that there is evidence and we don't see it, if you can't provide proof, it's better for you to quit.

In fact, you are seriously overestimating the amount of donators in the game

You are seriously underestimating the sheer amount of people that is willing to pay to get promotional items. I am one of them. And if SK made it this far is because there was a lot of people "donating" money to them... (when in fact you buy currency, you do not "donate" per se)

I know 2 people who spent over 10 grand on SK. Both left, 1 herited a lot of money and invested (I believe it was 30k $) to get triple max UV back when you couldn't lock UV down. And another one who was constantly spending 1k $ per month and even got banned because his sister bought for 1k$ and he never knew about it. Paid it and got back into the game.

I dunno where you pull your stats, but those are my personnal experience of the game. And I know a lot of people that put 20$ or 50$ whenver a promo hit... it's only 20$, it's nothing... you will waste a lot of 20$ in your life ^ ^

So here is my understanding of the whole "reskins" thing-

You've got an art team, and a programming team. They produce their respective things as time goes on, and one cannot produce the other's thing. The art team works a lot faster than the programming team, because this is just how it goes.

The promotions would then not be slowing their progress down so much, as they can be done while the programming team "catches up" with the art team.

-------

I have but two real issues with OOO-

0. They do a poor job planning for the future and managing their community.
-They should have a better plan for things like mad bomber, or acheron, or shard bombs. And radiants, of course.
-Refusal to acknowledge player concerns doesn't bode well

1. Too much focus on temporary one time events, not enough new levels and such
-Black kats and Margrel, Shrine to Apocrea and both the Grinchlin events are all examples of this.
-Rather than being a "one time event" type thing, it would be nice if these things were just put into the game as normal content, so that I'd have more to do than just farming.
-Actual new content- like the tortodrone levels revealed- should be given priority

Aside from that, I'm pretty happy with the way they operate.

I believe that's because of OOO having no lead engineer at the moment, actually.

As for the one time events and that, I think it's not too bad. Having a solid rotation of events is a good thing and without the Kataclysmic Confrontation and Shroud of the Alpaca, there'd just be a lot less. Still, more focus on constantly available content would indeed be nice.

A serious question to all people which spend a lot money here: Do you seriously enjoy using this game as a costume simulator, with a content-poor environment? Do costumes and reskins really make you that happy?

I think I speak for most of the end-gamers who sit in haven and just chill when I say:

Yes, I like to look fancy and all that jazz, I can look nice and talk to friends. So even if the game dies in the content side, there will always remain a handful of people who just like to sit and chill.

sadly this is how business and life is on earth. you need money to sustain yourself. you just cant go around telling people to stop because money is essential if you want a certain thing to stay alive, projects like mmorpgs, business corps, research, etc. sadly our lives revolve around wads of paper ... and small metal discs

but i do think OOO have slowed a bit. that or it's biding or conceiving other future stuffs. coding isnt so easy you know
