Prologue: A Warning

The knight fumbled with his gun, soot and smoke clouding his vision. The roar of gunfire and explosions rung all around him. The knight desperately punched a code into his commset.
"We failed, we failed sir!" The knight screamed. "They've overrun the barricade, and they're going to launch an attack on the Inte-" The knight was cut off by an explosion, and was knocked off his feet. The knight could feel some of his bones were broken, and when he looked down, he saw his left leg was nothing but a bloody stump. He grimaced and howled in pain.
"Retreat! Fall back!" He heard in the distance. Knights ran past him, scattering dust everywhere.
"Ha! We're not retreating! We're fighting in the other direction!" A strangely enthusiastic voice hollered. Its source was another knight, who sprinted over to the fallen knight, and lifted him on his shoulder.
"MechTeka, this is not a joke! Get everyone out, no man left behind!" Was a reply in the distance. MechTeka rolled his eyes and ran faster. Everything became a blur of sound and color, nothing made sense. The knight blacked out from the pain.

When the knight woke, he was on a cot, with a Spark of Life pumping medical fluids into his arm. A bloody bandage was wrapped around his stump of a leg. Then he remembered the fire. The pain. A medical robot walked into the room.
"You should rest," The robot said. "You'll need the energy in case of attack, and your prosthetic leg won't come in for a week, at best." The robot strode away as quickly as it came. The knight rested his head against the simple pillow, relaxing. Soon after, the commando called MechTeka entered the room.
"You alright kid?" He asked. The knight managed a slight nod. MechTeka sighed. "Gremlins...scum...all of 'em. I'LL BEAT THEIR BROKEN FORMS INTO SMEARS IN THE GROUND!" He exclaimed. Then he was calm once more.
"The friends I've lost...If we don't win this war soon, we're all dead." MechTeka said. The knight suddenly remembered what Recon 4 discovered.
"Wait! Radio Spiral HQ! Tell them there's going to be an attack on the Intel Center. Kora, the agents, and all the weapons and data will be lost if we don't prepare now."
MechTeka nodded, and took out his commset.

Chapter 1: Attack on the Intel Center Pt.1

Will stood on the observation deck of the ship, looking down at the Intel Center below. His team was comprised of some of the most skilled knights available: Eve, the Constructor; Nick, the Gunslinger, and Doomskull, the Striker. The pilot said they were ready for landing.
"Take us down, the Gremlins will be here soon." Will commanded. As they descent, the situation became very clear: the knights were ready for the worst. The defenses were monumental: A spiked barricade, turrets, energy fields, and a fleet of airships. Battle robots and sprites darted everywhere. That commanding officer stationed there was Aekun, clad in skolver armor and a scarf and eye of fury. When the landed, he walked over to meet them.
"Ah, thank the Core you're here." He said. Aekun took out a cookie and munched on it before continuing. "We...*nomnom*...got wind of...*nomnom*...an attack on the Intel Center." Doomskull snickered.
"The guy finally says six words without taking another bite out of his cookie," Doomskull whispered. Will glared at him, and Doomskull shrugged sheepishly. Will turned back to Aekun.
"Yes, well, can you direct me to Intel Agent Kora? I need to speak with her." Aekun pointed them to nearby airship. Onboard were over a dozen knights, and belowdecks was Kora, jabbing at a keyboard. Will walked over to her, while Eve studied all of Kora's diagrams and notes, recording them in the Spiral HQ archives.
"Do you have all the essential data?" Will asked. Kora turned to him.
"Yes, now hurry, we must get to vault and secure all the weapons and artifacts!" Kora sped off, with the team barely keeping up with her. When they reached the vault, Kora punched in a passcode, and the titanic steel door slid open Inside were dozens, if not hundreds of artifacts, ancient weapons, and treasure. Eve gazed in wonder while her robot drones buzzed around, scanning everything.
"By the Core...this must be from when the knights first landed on Cradle and made it into the Clockworks..." She murmured. Kora nodded.
"Indeed, and that's why we must keep it away from the Gremlins, they're powerful enough as it is." Kora replied. Nick stared at a huge rifle, and stroked it. Doomskull looked at him weird.
'Gun-Stroking Weirdo...' He started to walk away, when an explosion shook the ground. Eve jumped, and Will and Nick whipped around, alert for an enemy. A knight raced down the hallway.
"The Gremlins have been sighted! Quick, Kora, get on the airship, we have to-" Kora stopped him.
"We haven't even started loading yet!" She exclaimed. The knight shook his head sadly.
"Well, then just grab the essentials, and-" Kora grabbed the knight by the collar.
"IT'S ALL ESSENTIAL, YOU FOOL!" She screamed. Kora calmed down. "Hold them off!" She strode into the vault, and the door closed behind her. The knight gestured for the team to follow him outside. The garrison was in chaos. Guns were primed, knights were ready for combat, robots and sprites were charged and fed. The airships lifted off for an aerial ambush. In the distance, the clanking of Gremlin war machines could be heard. Aekun rallied his troops.
"Will!" Aekun shouted. "Are the artifacts secure?" Will shook his head.
"Not yet, Kora is working on it!"
"Then she better hurry, the Gremlins are here!"

Huge bronze Grem-Tech mechs rose over the horizon. Darkfang Scorchers headed the line, while automated battle towers were primed with guns and cannons. Knights trembled.
"Knights! Ready yourselves!" Aekun commanded. Spiral Sharpshooters aimed shots. "Aim!" Shields and armor clinked.
"FIRE!" The sharpshooters fired, taking down a good portion of the front line of Scorchers. The Gremlins started to race towards them and fire at the energy shield, and it was quickly deteriorating. Knights slashed at those who managed to get through small chinks that were made in the field, but it was useless, the shield was as good as dead. An Ironclaw Demo rolled a bomb under the shield, and the explosion broke the shield. Knights where scattered everywhere, gravely wounded. The mechs advanced, firing autogun bullets from their arms and sending the already disorganized knights scurrying for cover. Nick loaded his Strike Needle, and in his view, time slowed. He carefully aimed his shot at the mech's arm, and fired. The arm exploded, and Nick's shot hit home. The mech was upturned and useless, but there were three others to take care of.
Eve took out a sleek white case , and opened it. It unfolded into a knight-sized robot, two very dangerous looking blades in its smooth white hands, and a black glass screen for a face: Oberon. Eve punched a code in on the case, and the robot leapt off it, and proceeded to destroy an enemy mech.
Doomskull hefted his Warmaster Hammer and grinned madly. He rushed at the mech, hammering it with heavy blows, dents and scratches cover it, and soon it was down.
Will charged his Zeus Bullet, and fired it at the last mech. The bullet embedded itself in the mech, and it exploded from all the high voltage going through it. The battle seemed to be won, but it was far from over. On the horizon, more Gremlins marched, carrying Tinkinzar's Banner.
'Bloody hell…' Thought Will. 'It's just the beginning of the attack and we're already run down…' Knights ran over to the turrets and manned them, taking aim at the Gremlins. Just as Aekun was about the yell "fire", a smoke bomb was tossed into the area. The knights coughed and wheezed.
"What the-" The knight was cut off when a dagger found a way through his armor and slit his neck. Other fell all around him. When the smoke cleared, eleven knights were dead.
'Oh no…' Will grimaced. 'Ghostmane Stalkers…' While their attention was diverted, several guns were sabotaged. Aekun pounded his fist on the wall.
"Scrap it!" He cursed. "I really need a cookie…" His troops rolled their eyes, but the attack was coming fast. Aekun took out his commset.
"Aerial units, get ready to bomb on my command." He ordered. Then he turned to Will. "Will! Get Kora, and use the weapons inside!" Will nodded, and told Doomskull and Nick to stay outside. Eve folded Oberon back up and followed Will.
"Kora!" Will banged on the door. "We need the weapons inside, the Gremlins are tearing the garrison apart!" Kora shouted back in dismay.
"I can't, these weapons are supposed to be in pristine condition for mass production, you can't disobey the Spiral Order!"
"We need those weapons!"
"No, I can't give them to you!"

Choice:
A. Continue the battle without the weapons
B. Force your way inside the Vault

Patience, and also...

^You'd look like you'd be writing these kinds of stories here.

And I choose A.

AND PATIENCE IS KEY FOR A CHOOSE YOUR PATH STYLED STORY LIKE THIS. If you go with a choice with only a few votes after a few hours, you'll enrage a swarm of other players who haven't voted. And no, a four-hour wait time is not reasonable in the least.

And another thing : if the choice is going to be that we have to choose the most logical choice or die, then you might wanna change everything...

...otherwise, that's more like gambling for a linear story.

@Redacted-Sanity

I didn't think id din't anything that showed impatience this time, and a few choices won't go influence the story instantly, I was going to wait a few days. I'm still holding onto Valorai's advice. And all the choices are legitimate. It's just like playing Mass Effect, it'll just lead to a different outcome but the story can still be a good one.

I wanted to see how an experiment of a story would work out here on the forums. Since the only two major stories around are RP's and regular stories, I wanted to see how this would work out. I respect your opinion however, Redacted-Sanity.

Okay!

Sorry for acting a little harsh on ya, but it seems you got the know-how for a story...

...but if Mass Effect isn't a good example of choice. (or at least, not the third one) But I'll see how it'll play out :)

SPIRAL ORDER DATA FILE #1: Grem-Tech Mechs

-[TE9HSU4=]-LOGIN SUCCESS
-[QUNDRVNT]-ACCESSING FILES

Grem-Tech Mech:
A heavy hitting metal monster. It takes precise shots and hits to take this thing down quickly, and if you can't manage that it will be a long time until it falls, and it causes a lot of damage. It is armed with a back mounted missile launcher, and gatling guns on both arms. Bulletproof glass protects the pilot, so aiming for the glass is no better than aiming for the armor. Rendering it immobile is the best option, since it'll be easier to take down that way.

Chapter 2: Attack on the Intel Center Pt. 2

Choice: Continue the battle without the weapons

Will sighed in defeat. He knew he had to listen to orders. He'd have to make due without the weapons.

"Fine, keep the weapons, but get them outta here quickly." Will said. Korra nodded gratefully.

"I'm glad you saw reason, you won't regret this." She replied. Will and Eve ran out to the garrison to alert the troops. Outside, the remaining guns were firing at the enemy in the distance. Aekun was munching on a cookie...again. Will rushed over to him.

"Ah, did you get the weapons?" He asked. Will shook his head.

"They're too important to the Spiral Order for use yet." Will stated. Aekun's face fell.

"A lot of my men could die here." He said. "You did that just for the welfare of a few weapons?" Will felt guilt wallow up inside of him. He might have condemned some soldiers to death with his decision.

"No, I-" A scream pierced the air, cancelling every other noise out. A knight struggled to keep a Ghostmane Stalker from slicing his throat open. Nick shot the gremlin in the head, crimson chunks of flesh flying everywhere. Doomskull raised his eyebrows and nodded.

"Not bad," He laughed. Aekun angrily walked away from Will over to Nick.

"Nick, go lead the sharpshooters and flank the enemy. We'll cover you from here with the cannons." Aekun ordered. Nick nodded, a bit unsure, and motioned for some of the gunslingers to follow him, and they disappeared behind the rocks.

The Gremlins advanced in their automated battletowers, firing down upon the knights. Nick and two other gunslingers scaled the side of the battletower, and hooked a gremlin over the ledge, sending him tumbling to his doom. When they got to the top, they entered the tower, they incapacitated the remaining Gremlins inside and took control of the tower.

Nick turned the tower around and fired upon the other three towers, the Gremlins realized what was happening quickly, and the demos stuck a bomb on the bottom of the tower. It exploded, and the tower precariously leaned back, over the edge and into the deeper parts of the Clockworks. Nick and the other gunslingers made it to the top, but one of them didn't make it, and fell down with the tower.

Aekun wincing at seeing his soldier die. He brushed past the grief and continued to attack. Eve unfolded Oberon again, sending him with Nick and Doomskull to meet the enemy on the field. Will and Doomskull hammered and opening into the bottom of one of the towers, and worked their way up and out, blowing the tower up in the process. Oberon was surrounded by a squad of Darkfang Thwackers. Eve took manual control of the robot, and attacked the enemy with a keyboard.

Oberon threw a gremlin into another enemy, then impaled another Thwacker on a slender black blade. Oberon kicked a Thwacker in the stomach and then cut him clean in half. Nick clambered up to a rock, and took aim at a mechanized Trojan. Before he could pull the trigger, something grabbed him and threw him on the ground. A mecha knight knocked his gun out of hand, and brought his sword down on him. Nick blocked it with his arm, and it made a deep cut. Nick grunted in pain.

The mecha knight brought its sword up for another strike, but a shot made it through the construct's head. Aekun ran over to Nick and helped him up.

"We gotta get you back to camp." He said, taking out his commset. "Aerial units, bomb now!" The knights began to retreat behind the garrison, and the gremlins charged forward.

A load roaring filled the air. Knights and gremlins alike stopped in their tracks to look at the sky, glowing red. Then, a missile rocketed down from the sky, tearing the Gremlin forces apart. It rained fire on the gremlins, and they ran in defeat. Knights cheered, having chased the enemy away. But the enemy was not done yet.

A heavy feeling seemed to suck all the sound out of the air. It grew unnaturally quiet. Then, a sound like a thousand beast bells, the screeching of steel on stone, and the scream of a million souls filled the air. It blew a gaping hole right through the garrison and tore the main door off the Intel Center. Some knights started to bleed from their ears, and some of their heads exploded from the high amounts of sound. Will clutched his head in pain, blood streaming from his ears. Aekun managed to shout retreat. Knights stumbled over to the airships to escape their death. A huge crimson device loomed over the hill, but Will couldn't get a good view of it. He boarded the airship with his teammates, gravely wounded, following after.

"Where's Kora?" Will asked.

"I don't know, she's either here or dead, we can't stay anymore." Aekun replied. He signaled to the pilot, and the knights retreated. The gremlins have taken the Intel Center.

Tharix, the new Gremlin warmaster after Seerus' death, walked into the Intel Center, a triumphant look on his furry face. Mechanized Trojans flanked him. Tharix found the vault door, and grinned.

"Break it down." The Trojans banged on the vault door. Slowly, but surely, it dented and soon collapsed.

"Finally, the arsenal of the Spiral Order, is MINE!" He strode in to find...

An empty room. A huge hole was cut into back wall. Tharix fumed. He threw his gun on the ground in frustration. He looked out the hole to see a group of airships haul away several large crates, and the outline of Intel Agent Kora on one of the airships. He howled in anger. Kora laughed quietly. At least Will knew what he was doing.

Back at the Spiral Order HQ, Will was summoned to court.

"I hear that you lost the Intel Center." Said one official.

"We did secure all the weapons and data sir." The official nodded, satisfied.

"Well, we have two missions for you. There is a Recon party we sent to a Gremlin stronghold on depth 12. They haven't come back. Also, some knights need help upholding an outpost against wolver attacks. It's your choice Defender Elite. Where will you go?"

Hm...

B is going to be just as intense, if not moreso than A, but if we don't go to A, we'll lose any progress they had left behind when they had undoubtedly got killed.

A it is. Even if the Recon team might or might not be dead, it's better that we know exactly what took place. If we just stick to defending the base, it's only going to let us see our teammates fall one after another...
