The almighty tortodrones are back!
But are they permanent? As there is no time specified to which these creatures can be found in the clockworks.
The new price boxes will be up until March 9th!

I hope this mission is permanent. But if not and it disappears when the box promo finishes then hopefully it comes back again. I can't play this event. So much work!
If this mission is not permanent, I won't be able to play it.
I wish they'd add more permanent content instead of bombarding us constantly with events. That or make the non holiday related events more common.
I do wonder, too. There's no statement on the availability of the Tortodrone mission, only the Prize Boxes.
Had some type of craftable item. It's the same as getting x amount of items as in the apocrea mission.
Anyone else find the fiendish danger room? It only took a button to get in, and there were these runes and respawning artillery strikes, and when you completed it you got 5 glyphs. I tried to take screenshots but after I finished, I realize my F12 wasn't working :(
Aphrodite says they leave on the 9th of March. I got 3 Obsidian Shards from 1 run, so...
From rough calculation, getting one of the tortoshields to 5 stardom requires roughly 28 ancient shells. If you wish to get all, that'd be a little over 90 or so.
So about 50 runs in to get all of the special material required.
don't quote me on the math, though.
Let me do some math. It took a party of 4 peeps 4 Fiend levels (Silent Legion Elite) to get all the Glyphs. An average run gives 2-4 Shells; let's say 3. You'll need 10 boss runs, or 40 Fiend levels, to get one shield to 5*, with 2 shells left over. And it's 200k per shield, though the cost can be split among party member as the glyphs are unbound and so is energy.
Tortodrones have no weaknesses or resistances.
Tried piercing, normal & elemental damage on it and they all came back as neutral damage. Haven't tested shadow yet.
Really? I used my level 10 Combuster and the first 2 hits were grey 289's.
Maybe buggy damge numbers. Torto has been only out now for what 4 or so hours? Bugfixes are sure to come!
It's an event, and only lasts til March 9th. Going to be some pretty fast bugfixes, and the jelly minis still have buggy number colors.
I've got the 4* of one, and 14 shells for the 5* + mats to go on another run. This is more than doable.
Height modifier changes the size of the tortodrone shield bash.
The extra tall one is giant.
Lol, does it actually change the area of effect? Or just make it look goofy?
I doubt the height mod actually changes area.
I don't know a good way to test it though...
I can say that at my height (short), the 5* reaches at least over a low wall (tested in the fire pot area of advanced training).
Also... 3 new 5* shields in haven.
Speaking of which, why does the normal one have such weaker stats than the others? Is its bash better in some way?
I just found out about the new shield bash for the Tortodrone shields and it's the greatest thing ever.
But...
Is everyone's tortodrone shield bash model completely pitch black or is it just mine? (I'm using the 3* Shadow variant if it means anything)
The graphical scale of the knight has absolutely no impact on the hardcoded values that determine the reaches of weapons and other interaction, the developers stated that when the height mods were first released.
Well. They've returned at long last. They live up to anyone's expectations?

It looks like people here doesn't seem to be impressed with the new totodrone thing.
Well, wasn't the Ancient Plate Mail's Defense 'like double' the Volcanic's? Maybe the red one is like that or something.
I really want that red shield. It would replace my BTS for Shadow Lairs and the like. Plus it's red. Red is cool.
Apparently you can keep doing them and getting the prestige each time.
Not that prestige matters much right now, but this is the first time they've had something where you can grind them out.
I wonder if this is intentional?
Can you find normal good old fashioned Tortos in Wolver dens and other places they use to be? If not, please make them a reare occurance OOO!!!!
Is everyone's tortodrone shield bash model completely pitch black or is it just mine? (I'm using the 3* Shadow variant if it means anything)
I have the same issue with the same shield.
The model is pitch black because of Compatibility Mode being ticked on. When I tick it off, the model is the ghostly blue one.
The thing that confuses me is that for the shields the status resists are:
Stoic: Normal, Stun
Wild: Pierce, Poison, Shock
Primal: Elemental, Fire, Ice
Grim: Shadow, Stun, Ice
Stoic is probably anti-trojan armor.
Wild one fits snarbolax shadow lair nicely (ok, only pierce and poison fit...).
We got another fire+ice item (grand solstice) with primal for all those dangerous status construct (anti-mechaknight?).
Grim hits the ice-themed fiend areas (a mix of ice and stun).
Why the stun resist for grim when stoic has only that one resist?
Why not 2 resists for Stoic?
Oh well. Not everyone can be pleased. I just wish the ones who aren't pleased weren't as vocal.
Because the normal defense supposedly makes up for it.
done tortodrone once.
3 sparks in less than 3 mins. blitz is suicide. nuff said.
The shields are they way they are just to differentiate them from existing shields.
Grand is Volcanic Plate but without the fire. (This is the worst of the four for that reason).
Gorgomega is Dread Skelly with Stun instead of Poison.
Savage is Royal Jelly with Poison Shock instead of Stun Sleep.
Omegaward is Grey Owlite with Freeze instead of Shock.
and all four have Movement Speed Decrease Low.
Honestly, they're not good shields. I won't be using one of these instead of my regular shields (Dread Skelly & CoA, BTS & Aegis, Grey Owlite, and Volc Plate & Ironmight Plate).
But they are damned pretty to look at. :)
Gorgomega might fill a niche as the anti-Silversap shield, Freeze + Stun is a really nice combo and damage type isn't as important for shields as status resist.
As I understand it, the Tortodrones just resist everything. Not sure how much, though. Could anyone elaborate more on the topic?
As for the shields, Gorgomega seems really nice for the reason that the above post pointed out. I might get it eventually but for now, I'll stack up on shells to use later on. They don't expire, folks!
CHEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Question: Since I will probably miss out on this awesome event due to IRL issues, are the Ancient Shell Materials Tradable? And if so, what are their value in Crowns?
Nope as every mat frm event its bound to your knight. but the mats for the id those are tradeable but sadly you wouldnt be able to use the key since you need the event to use it.
Poop.
Well, can you tell me what the average amount of Shells you can get per run, how long a run takes(both Solo & Group-wise), & how many Shells in total do you need to Craft one of the 5* Shields?
The drop rate of Fiendish Glyphs depends on where you are farming for them. Their current market value is approximately 1,000 crowns each.
The Fiendish ID Card costs 25 Fiendish Glyphs and 10,000 crowns and unlocks the Tortodrone level for all players in a party.
The Tortodrone fight can take anywhere from 1-3 minutes, depending on how much time players spend dead and not directly damaging the Tortodrones.
The mean average of Ancient Shells you receive per run according to my estimates is 3.6 (Tested on Elite, total range is 2-6, assuming you are not dead when someone breaks the Tortodrone corpses)
You must also remember to factor in Spark of Life costs into this. There is not much place to run or hide to in the fight, so don't think you can skimp on this cost through cowardice.
Going purely by market value (which in my opinion, is heavily overpriced due to 90% of people not knowing the easiest way to farm the Glyphs) this puts each Ancient Shell at 2,430 crowns.
Each Shield consumes the regular items for the Jelly Shield/Plate Shield/Skelly Shield/Owlite Shield upgrades (Orbs, crowns, and materials) but also consume 6, 10, and 12 Ancient Shells for the 3, 4, and 5 star variants.
Thanks.
I did some maths of myself & found out that it would take at least 28-32 IDs(280-320kCr) to get enough Ancient Shells to Craft 3 of the four Shields...Right?
That's if you do it all by yourself. If you work with a team, a FSC run can give you 4 ID's plus the seals and mats and Radiants. 8 runs = 40k per run cuz team = 320k. Ta da!
28*3 = 84. 84/3 = 28. The average is apparently 3.4, so maybe even less than your projection, Bitsbee.
OH MY GOSH THOSE SHIELDS ARE AWESOME!
'Nuff said.
