Anyone know what stats (defense, item buffs, etc.) it has?
Celestial Shield statistics?
I'd say it's more of a Status-less Crest of Almire with Piercing instead of Normal.
So you think:
different damage resist
additional status resist
is closer than:
different damage resist
Another meaningless shield, aside from the look, it really offers nothing else, kind of like the tortodrone shields. Good looking, cool design, but at the end they are all flawed in the core. None of those shields are anywhere as good as the swift strike buckler (puts on flame suit), defence < offense, that is the rule of SK, chaos and SSB will always beat these eye candy shields. OOO, please, give us something practical.
The celestial shield is basically a dragon scale shield except more shadowy, with no status defence what is so ever, this shield is next in line with Aegis, pure garbage shield, used only by the end game players for the looks. The only thing this shield seems to be desgined for is the Heart of Ice (or heart of the impossible), with piercing and shadow enemy inside, this shield seems ideal. But without freeze resistant(there is a thread on status vs. pure damage, status will always do more damage on a shield that has no resistance against it), the celestial shield will be chewed away way faster than the dread skelly shield, at least the dread skelly's freeze resist can put up a fight against the fiends and not too shabby against wolvers. The celestial shield will guarantee to break after just three hits from either the wolvers or the fiends.
OOO, at least put a freeze resist on the celestial shield, or even shock, that way, the shield would be truely viable. Oh, wait, you guys never wanted the shield to be viable in the first place, my apology.
"kind of like the tortodrone shields"
I have to disagree.
And in my opinion, this shield takes the cake for being the worst shield in the game as of right now. Looks like Aegis can finally rest in peace.
For once your negativity makes sense.
Swift Strike all the way, all day, every day!
Perhaps they forgot to add fire and freeze resistance?
Or perhaps they did it on purpose to avoid people raging over a shield that would have potentially been pay 2 play.
"And in my opinion, this shield takes the cake for being the worst shield in the game as of right now. Looks like Aegis can finally rest in peace."
Nah man, Dark Fang Shield. Seriously, it might as well be called Collector's Shield or You're Now Rich Shield. And don't give me that "Oh it's not 5-star" stuff.
I agree that defense in this game is a distant second to offense (and more's the pity; I'd love a legit Guardian class), and in a perfect world where you know you'll never get hit, the Swiftstrike is almost always your best option. But as we know this isn't a perfect world, so sometimes you're going to get hit, and in those cases I'd much rather have a shield with more defensive oomph than that flimsy little thing. I've seen far too many SSB users nailed by hits that by rights they should have been able to take, particularly in harder stuff like Danger Missions. If I get whomped by a Lumber or Trojan while wearing a normal 5-star shield, I know that at the worst I'll wind up with a smashed shield and applied status (and not even that if the shield has the right resists), whereas that SSB guy will be hurting something fierce. But I guess if that's a risk you're willing to take, then the SSB is for you.
I am only using SSB as an extreme example of pure offensive play, I never had a SSB and I will probably never have one, I am playing in pacific zone so the lag here is a bit ridiculous at time, defensive shield is what I prefered. But the celestial shield just isn't going to cut it for me, there are much better alternatives out there that offers you pure defense, the tortodrone shield beat this trashy shield any day of the week.
The only shield I ever used:
SSB
DTS
Dread Skelly
Owlite Shield
Volcanic Plate Shield (was my "vana" shield when I was a noob)
and uuuuummmmmm
huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
THAT'S IT!
Why would I need a shadow/pierce shield? For SL Snarbolax? Oh so you do promotional items for single bosses use? Good to know!
Wait here you aren't fussed about the shield...lol. what is going on.
The shield is useless as stats and PvE goes... it's a novelty items nonetheless that has 0.25% of dropping in a 1 week period. It's just nonesense to have UV with cosmetic promotions IMO... the drop should be better or have more cosmos related accessories... seriously 2 helm and 2 suit? oh and 2 crest... thx :\(the lower % of drops)
The celestial shield is just another pay wall for collector and novelty hunter. I got a hold of the Mighty Great Cleaver and Frozen Great Cleaver, both storm suit (rider mantle, thunderous plate) and plenty of novelty items but won't even go for cosmos because of the %, just like when I read about Nemesis box before opening one I bought 400k cr off promo, got a 1 UV ticket ^ ^ -_-
And this will happen to someone in 2 months with an Equinox box
Celestial Shield may be situational, but at least it's unique. The reason Aegis is garbage is because basically every other piercing shield in the game is an upgrade to it.
Firstly my relevant input: Does this shield have a special effect on bash? I know the wiki fails to identify the visual effect in trivia or notes, so if they didn't list it for tortos, I wouldn't be surprised if this has some special effect too, but everyone I know who owns one has it unbinded (because it's useless as heck and they want to resale)
And a bit of advice in case Midnight-DJ happens to stumble upon this thread once more: Offense is a lot, but not everything.
As a guy that owns offensive gears, defensive gears, and guns/swords of all shapes, sizes, and handling speeds, you may want to actually try playing heart of ice with defensive gear. I tested a theory on HOI with offense spec yesterday, with a couple different specs, the most notorious of which included freeze max UV nameless poncho + partial dread skelly and pet perks spec'd into offense, and even the most defensive/offensive builds were a collosal failure.
On the other hand... my winning build for heart of ice is absolute dread skelly armor, helm and shield. I hear people talk a lot of smack about dread skelly, but when the day is done it's a very fine armor set, especially for heart of ice. Dread skelly combined with a storm driver and snarby, 0 trinkets, and nothing related to ASI or CTR on pet has allowed me to solo HOI on elite without so much as a single death, sometimes with pills to spare. HOI is quite frankly built to be deadly and punishing, even more than most danger missions, so while speed is good (hence my selection in weapons that don't need ASI for anything really) sometimes being able to take a lot of hits you know are coming is even better. I contemplated using SSB for poops and grins in HOI, but decided it was a really poor decision. The crowds of greavers, ice spirits, sections that generate with turrets, and generally very fast enemies with high potential damage output means you want to keep your ability to bump, block, and straight up have something to fall back on in case your dodging comes to its end, which is all too real of a possibility in there. Trust me, I know speed and I can glass cannon too well, I've been in situations where I'm last guy standing in 4P vana elite, and end up having to win the fight after 30-40 min of kiting, shooting, and dodging to the absolute limit upon the razor's edge.
I know the wiki fails to...

shadow and piercing defense. that's it. no bonuses or status reistances whatsoever.
