Previously, you had to buy CE at 10$ to receive at least one box.

Now, you need to pay 4$ for just a box.

OOO probably paid attention to all the threads ranting about paying for the promotional items and not the CE that comes with it, or the UV tickets that screwed them out of their flashy costumes.

But why keep the items randomized? Sure, it's all promo items this time... but why wouldn't Supply Depot offers work, too?

Like making the boxes cheaper overall, but the Supply Depot offers more costly but guarantee that you'll get what you want.

The Auction House does this to an extent, but it munches on crowns rather than CE.

All I have to say

The unenlighted gamers,
You cannot make the judgement call,
Give up your free will forever,
Your voices won't be heard at all.

Display your paypal,
While never begging for more contents,
And blindly swear your fanbase,
Let your MMO control your mind,
LET YOUR MMO CONTROL YOUR SOUL!

Play in ignorance,
And purchase your shiny boxes,
When the cash and money is the real cause,
Thinking ceases and the thruth is lost!

Don't you worry,
UFSC will be exactly what you grind,
We give our players the promos they need,
The RNG shall succeed.

The fires of greed will burn the F2P,
So we will make mist tanks obsolete!
Breaking down the fabrics of reality!
Let UI update control what you see!

Let your MMO control your soul,
Let your MMO control your mind.
LET YOUR MMO CONTROL YOUR SOUL,
LET YOUR MMO CONTROL YOUR MIND!!!

Dj, enough.

Your poems were funny the first few times, but this is like....the eighth time you've posted this one. Come up with something new, or stop clogging up my scroll bar with a poem I've read time and time again.

I know it's your "forumer gimmick", but honestly, seeing it for the billionth time... it just gets a little old, you know? It's the same every time.

The items are randomized to maximize whale profit. Normal customers might buy one box, or the five for 15 deal. Having randomized 0.000001% items means whales will buy hundreds of boxes.
Business business business, numbers. Is this working?

@Midnight-Dj When can I buy your single from iTunes?

Well, it is really hard for me to come up with new rants about the update, this patch is infuriating, let's all to be honest, now you can't even buy some energy along with the boxes, just a boxes full of crap. Why bother even making suggestions about fixing RNG? I have said time and time again that OOO cares little about what the forumers have to think, we are the least of his concern and this poem reflects that. You can either scroll through 3 paragraph worth of my tumblr emo grade ranting or read a simple poem, I am sure you will prefer the latter.

I don't like this promo.

When looking at the advertisement, I decided I'll try to go for the look of the character up front. I really like that bunny look. Then I saw that to get that set up, I would either have to try my luck with a few measly boxes, or go with energy and try bribing other players.

I personally liked the system of buying energy AND boxes more. It may have been more expensive, but it gives you a few random items along with some control over what you want to get with the energy. This is just setting players up with another bargain for a few accessories that actually aren't reskins. I don't think we have whiskers yet.

I think that OOO is starting to create a totally new Bargain-to-Play. The adventures this game have given me go beyond that of Cradle.

If the promo items were added

If the promo items were added to the supply depot as well for set amounts of CE that would just raise the crown to CE market since the rich players would just buy CE with their crowns to get what they wanted instead of giving OOO money for a chance to get what they wanted.

Applauds for Midnight-Dj

Midnight-Dj just said about everything. People already complained a lot about boxes, yet OOO makes them, and now you can't even get them with energy purchases. That's why he is posting this poem for the eighth time. OOO just don't care about what forumers have to say at all. They just make more boxes to get money and make people think SK is a MMO Fashion Competition Game., rather than making new useful content.

I think it's less "OOO

I think it's less "OOO doesn't care about the forumers" and more "OOO is trying something new."

They did free boxes with every $10 purchase for a while, people complained. They tried boxes being sold for energy on the supply depot, people complained. Now they're trying boxes $4 a piece or 5 for $15, and once againnn people are complaining. There's literally no way to please everybody, but maybe this might be doing the economy some good in ways that isn't immediately obvious? I like new things.

OOO is still getting money in ways other than energy purchases, and yet energy prices dropped nearly 500 crowns in a matter of hours. (And people complain about energy prices whether or not they're going up or down or holding steady, so there's no pleasing the forums there, either.)

Boxes redeemed from energy

Boxes redeemed from energy purchases are expensive due to the high cost per drop ($9.95?)
Boxes sold via the depot (dangerous, gobble, etc) have been expensive for reasons unknown.
Now it seems boxes sold direct are cheaper still, a bit more than 750e purchase ->silver key, but getting better.

Maybe the idea of replacing the energy economy with nothing but buying $2.45 keys could be viable after all, depending on how well this promo is received that is.

The issue that sticks out to me is that the energy system is largely unnecessary at this point. Our best bet for selling things fairly and cleanly and well are the costume boxes that regularly come out; all else might as well be sold for crowns due to the likely discrepancy between money being spent purely on costumes and money being spent on every other facet of the game.

Called it.

@DJ

Or you could perhaps talk intelligently about the box promotion, i.e. defend your position; there have been many arguments against "OOO is greedy+evil and is milking us."

For starters: The program team is down on members, and hiring new programmers means that they have to read up on stuff and that a good one must be found. The art team almost always works far faster than the rest of the group, so making promotions in the mean time-- especially those that primarily reuse existing bits of costume and such-- are effectively free in terms of time.

This might be the way to go.

This might be the way to go. A problem with the previous system was that getting a box was rather expensive since it was tied to an energy purchase, i.e. 1 box per $9.95 spent. As a result, boxes were usually sold for around 3,000 - 3,500 energy each.

Now, assuming there are already boxes in the game and that you are making a purchase solely for the boxes, a $99.95 purchase would yield 10 boxes + (45,000 / 3,500 = 12 boxes) = 22 boxes total. If you purchased boxes for 3,000 E per that's 25. For those who managed to get them for 2,500 E, 28.

With this new system, it's only $3.95 per box, or $2.99 per box if purchased in bundles of five for $14.95.
What this means is that obtaining the same amount of boxes as you would for $99.95 in the previous system you would have to spend $74.75. That's $25.20 cheaper than before at $1.008 less per box. Not much on its own but the key difference is that the previous system relied on other players to purchase boxes for money and reselling for energy to achieve those numbers. The new system ensures that each purchase that is made towards a box brings that box into the game whereas previously it was split between boxes and energy, leaving less boxes in the game.

Because boxes are now much cheaper, those who are looking to obtain the rarer accessories and/or fill out their costumes collection would be able to bring more boxes into the game for much cheaper than before. We will also be seeing far more boxes per dollar now that each box is $6.00 to $6.96 cheaper, hopefully making the rarer promotional items more common and therefore bring a fairer price on the market.

I actually like this new method.

I could, before, pay 30 dollars and get 3 tries at items I wanted. Now I can pay 30 dollars and get 10 tries. Granted I'm not gaining anything really all that special, but it's a factor that made me want to spend money on the boxes.

That plus this is the theme I've wanted forever, so I'm super happy right now!

Ah, this is interesting.

Now I have to choose: spend $18-19 for 6 boxes, or $20 for 7.5k CE?

Maybe I'll just buy two boxes and 3.5k CE.

Or maybe not. I'm not a big fan of pink, but the Bent Vertical Vents remind me of Reisen Undongein Inaba.

It's definitely better than what we had before, I agree!

I just don't like chance. Maybe it's just me, but even with the ridiculous energy prices in the Depot promotions, I still prefer them. [also, it gives a way for me to spend CE, since there's absolutely nothing left for me to use it on until another content update hits.]

The promotion to sell boxes

The promotion to sell boxes exclusively should be added on top of buying energy and getting boxes for it. Please everyone.

This could quite possibly the

This could quite possibly the most important promo ever, ever.

Someone people wanted boxes but not energy, so now they get to put their money where their mouth is. If enough people end up voting with their wallets with this one, there is a chance that traditional game taxes could be retired in favor of purely non-game cosmetic taxes.

We have seen steps in this direction with the removal of play tax (elevator fee AKA the poor noob tax); reduced crafting tax with orb drops (not so much at the lower end but massively for the 5*); and the introduction of rare accessory don't-destroy tax (something that could have been possible from lockbox day 1, the surprise box helped reseed the pool after 2+ years of destruction and natural player loss). That being said, it seems like the new Vanguard tax (Radiants) was implemented as a way to fill the gap between the traditional game tax era and the hypothetical non-game cosmetic tax era.

While I don't expect this to actually happen, if the numbers that come out of this box sale were extraordinarily good then the option would have to be considered. I will say this though, the game 'plays' better when you don't have to manage taxes all the time.

The experiment might be a success, a failure or not much of anything at all, but I suppose I gotta give credit where credit is due:
Thanks OOO for giving it a go.

Oh, bother.

I actually wanted to purchase a box only as an approval of this system (since I don't particularly care for these promotional items) but it turns out the order I made online put me just short (exactly one unit in my local currency at that...) of meeting the minimum threshold for Steam's Add Funds option... I might be able to change that come Monday but we'll see.

Anyway, I hope they'll make use of this method for a more unique box promotion (i.e. Equinox, Storm, etc.) so that we can collect numbers on both regular reskins and unique promos. I think those are the ones that will bring in the most. Rare accessories are nice, but in those scenarios I'd rather just spend money on Energy to buy it off a merchant.
