This is a continuation of Nacho's thread, http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/39344

So for those of you who havent read that thread, these are the important points:

Basically, the thread starts out with some suggestions for a few different piercing related statuses, none of which are very practical, IMO.

But near the end, an (also IMO) decent piercing-related status came up: Cripple!
It's a status that would slow an enemy's walking speed, and only deal (a little) damage whenever it moves. This would be ubereffective against beasts and fiends, maybe gremlins as well, which are all weak/neutral to piercing damage already = WIN!!!

This could lead to a new branch in the Snarble Barb and Spine Cone lines:

-Snarble Barb
------Twisted Snarble Barb
-----------Dark Thorn Blade
----------------Barbarous Thorn Blade
-----------Crippling Thistle Blade
----------------Sapping Thistle Blade
Or something like that.

The CTB and the STB would be like pale green versions of the DTB and the BTB. Their stats (http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Barbarous_Thorn_Blade) would be the same, except that the Crippling line has slightly lowered attack damage, and a Slight/Good Chance of Strong Cripple (for 4* and 5*, respectively).
And it would be similar for the Dark Briar Barrage line, a new line that splits from 3*, just like the Snarble Barb ones above. (I'm too lazy to write it out.../laughs@self

Oh, and also, here is an icon I made for it: http://colonimbus2.tumblr.com/

Feel free to leave any (constructive) comments, they are all welcome :D

EDIT: If you agree with the Cripple status being implemented into SK, please make some threads about this, to get the GMs notice ;)

I love this idea, but I think I'll wait until this gets off the front page to make another thread.

I love the idea of Cripple

I love the idea of Cripple but at the same time I really like how the game only has a small set of status effects and don't want to add more. I am toooorn.

Its good, but i think you

Its good, but i think you should change the icon, its too different from the style of the other status icons.

I have a question, whats up with wolvers, turrets and kats? they move a lot and turrets dont move at all.

@Nacho
Well, I really had no good ideas about what the cripple icon should look like, so I just based it off the BTB's thorns (in charge atk). I'd appreciate it if anyone could make a better one ;)

"I have a question, whats up with wolvers, turrets and kats? they move a lot and turrets dont move at all."
I dunno, but it makes sense for me to have this status on a piercing weapon, since it would be epic against fiends, beasts, gremlins, and (some) undead :D
And so it would not be so effective against many constructs, since many of them are stationary/slow-moving anyways...
(I said some of this in the OP)

Questions?

So this is essentially a better version of Stun? I don't see the point.

@Neonbarnacle No, not

@Neonbarnacle
No, not really...I see why you say that, but no, it's not supposed to be. The important part is that it only deals damage when enemies are moving; the mvt speed slowing is actually not so important at all, tbh. ;D

^You forgot What Dark Ritual?

While it does make a bit of sense to cripple an opponent, I have to share Kalaina's concern. There are several status conditions in the game, and truthfully I don't want to be inflicted with one *every* time something hits me.

As long as we keep it limited, I'm fine with it.

What Dark Ritual? (happy now severage? :P)

Well yes, I agree that it could be a concern, having so many statuses to worry about...maybe Cripple could be blocked just by having your shield up? Normal and Piercing defense would be the most effective at blocking it - it would only be able to get inflicted on you if your shield happened to be down (meaning the majority of enemies would be always vulnerable to it!)

Cripple could probably be inflicted by:
- Beasts (wolvers? those new Raptors that Mejezfeld is suggesting, at http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/39996)
- Slimes (lichens' ground spike attacks (thorn roots))
- Floor spikes (three consecutive hits = crippled! more/less, depending on tier?)
- Gremlins (thwackers? or not all?)

i agree with neonbarnacle, isn't this like stun?

aside from damage over time instead of lower attack speed, it's already in the game as stun.

there is a flourish with reduced attack dmg and stun, and the gun callahan has stun. i really don't see a point to this status ability, sorry.
it seems like a lot of work to include a whole new status rather than maybe adding damage over time to stun, but then it becomes like shock. if you ignore the movement speed reduction, then it would be like fire.

i would also like to point out that in most cases you're proposing to put it in the game in spots where stun already exists or is similar. (thwack gremlins, large lichens' spin @ close range....)

personally i like the idea of something other than more damage over time statuses, and stun gives that to me. it may need a duration buff in Lockdown (bombs are good but it's really short on other weapons), but it's already balanced enough for me.

^^

I appreciate the comment...but Id just like to point out my last post, where I said that the movement speed decrease isn't the important part of the status; it's the DoT that matters :{o

Yeah, it is very much comparable to Stun...but I just want there to be a status that deals piercing damage, and this I what I came up with.

Anyways, have you heard about/noticed the glitches with stun? It can make enemies' attacks reach you before the animations even complete - so Stun is flawed anyways :/ (not that I dislike stun, really - it's just that I would prefer Cripple; and yes, I realize that I will probably think of every suggestion I make as being flawless and urgent -but please forgive me for my vanity)

And Id already considered adding to the Stun effect, but I came to the same conclusions that you did - we definitely don't want another Fire or Shock, which is why I suggested this...
