Hello knights,

We’d like to get a snapshot of what the wider Spiral Knights community thinks about how armor and weapons are balanced in the game right now. If you’ve got opinions on Spiral Knights gear, would you kindly do us the favor of filling out this survey?

It should take at least a few minutes to finish, and more if you decide to go into detail.

The goal of this is to get up-to-date, crunchable data from a wide variety of current Spiral Knights players, as a means to zoom in on feedback we’ve gathered over time here in the Suggestions Forum and on social media. This survey will be live for one week.

There are places in the survey where you may write longer responses to questions if you wish, so please respond there with your feedback rather than in a reply to this post. This survey doesn't mean we're only focused on gear right now; depending on the utility of the data we get from this one, we may do detailed surveys like this on other topics in the future.

A small criticism

In the question of which unique variants do you find most useful (It's question 5 for me but it may be different for others), you say that ASI is for guns and swords only. Bombs are affected by this as ASI decreases the time animations take to finish. This makes the time taken when planting and lifting up bombs shorter. It isn't as noticeable as CTR but it is important, as a second can make all the difference in a swarm of enemies.

Other than that, this furthers my belief that OOO is getting their act together and genuinely trying to make the game better. Keep it up!

This is SO what this game needs. The developers listening to the community. I felt I was repeating alot of things in the most/least useful armor/helm/shield (chaos is seerusly OP, cobalt is directly outclassed by wolver, other than it's free).

I love you guys for doing this, now just don't disappoint us by not listening to the community.

I did the survey and man it took a few hour. It's about time some justice has been made to make the game more balanced, I am sick of seeing Skolver clones using striker boosters and using same old overpowered weapons in Lockdown and I know other people think the same.

I was going to put the link to my thread of stuff at the very end but I forgot and sent it in after saying how I would leave the link. What the liquids is going on in my head to make me forget that.

They probably have it on the fridge in their building next to a chart of pigs getting crossed off, but I brought a spare business card. It smells a little like tuna. A bear walked in my room not long ago asking for some mayo and shredded pickles. This makes more sense the deeper I go.

I would really, really love if something changed as a result of this survey. Preferably sooner rather than later - sometime in 2013 would be great. We've already been waiting over a year and a half for the game to have reasonable game balance with very little indication that we can expect any changes.

I can't thank Three Rings enough for this. I took about two hours writing, I'm surprised that that apparently isn't an extreme, but it's good to know that people are taking their time and using this opportunity wisely.

Also, gogo pure piercing Antigua line, win all the votes and save us from trying to use Blitzes and Callahans against fiends.

Alsoalso, I kind of found it odd that questions for what monster family damage bonuses were most appropriate were listed for classes of weapons with no regard to weapon damage or attack type. I mean, a Fiend bonus is obviously going to be more helpful on a Barbarous Thorn Blade than on a Gran Faust, and both of those are swords, versus say, putting a Beast UV on my slow shadow Gran Faust because I just like using it in wolver levels more than the Thorn Blade and like surprising the Polyps that occasionally spawn in them. Or having a Fiend UV on my Argent Peacemaker for some reason. *cough*

Great survey nonetheless though.

It seems like some expectation management is in order!

The mention of sleep UVs slipped in there by accident. It is not a harbinger or an easter egg. Sorry!
The size of the essay textboxes is not decided by us--it's Surveymonkey's standard text box. If I had to guess why they made them small, it might be that survey takers, when confronted by a giant text box, get intimidated and skip the question. Anyway, there's no character limit, so you can say what you need to say.
I'd strongly caution against taking an "If I don't see changes directly stemming from this survey in two weeks, it means OOO didn't listen and doesn't care" attitude. It's going to take time to even crunch the data properly.
I'd like to reiterate that we didn't just now "start listening" or suddenly start paying attention to the Suggestions forum. This survey exists because the Suggestions forum was always being read. My coworkers and I have been working on this survey in one form or another since mid-February. If this goes smoothly, we may do more surveys like it in the future. If not, we'll continue paying attention to feedback on the usual channels.

I found a typo on question 21:

"I use four or more types of weapons, depending on what about to fight."

Why do you have to ask about armor and helms seperately? The only sets with differences are Divine and Radiant Silver.

There's no place to put down equipment that you think is well balanced.

Why would the name of the person who filled out the survey affect equipment balance?
