Competetive element / new content idea

So to start off with in before all the flaming. I know that most people play this game for the laugh, and because it is really casual. But when that's said i've also seen a great deal of people stop playing this game because of either the lack of content or because they got tired of doing the same FSC run over and over.

My suggestion is to add a more competetive element to game, and no im not talking about improving Lockdown, i don't really think the PvP element suits this game as good as it suits other games.

So my idea is to improve the Clockworks so that you can add competition into the gameplay, most games or sports are fun because you can compete, so i don't see why you shouldn't atleast be able to do so in this game.

The way it could be done would be with brackets of racing the clockworks. Let me eleborate.

You would sign for a "new modified clockwork*" in the brackets; 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4. I wouldn't suggest 1v1 because that might turn the game into a unsocial concept which would be bad i think. Eitherway, you gather your friends, guildmates, etc. and sign for the bracket that suits your team. The quality of your gear decides if you get a t1, t2 or t3 queue. Once your opponents are found you will then race to compete who completes the clockworks first. As mentioned before the clockwork for competetive runs would have to be modified with more "Danger room" alike scenarios so that you can't just skip everything. The winning team is the first team to complete the last level (preferable a boss). The winning team would get a reward (a worthy reward, not just a few crowns like LD). The loosing team would still have gained alot of crowns from their run, but far from what the winning team has gotten.
Also a ranking "rating" system could also be added for people to fill their ever longing desire to be on the top (sarcasm). But it might be a good idea with the ranking/rating system, but mostly because it would be easier to group up people with other people of their skill level. This way "lesser" players wouldn't get bored because they got stomped over and over, and the more "superior" players wouldn't keep seeing this new system as "farm" and more like an actual competition.

I know the downside of this idea, looking with "Three Rings" eyes that even more crowns would inflate the market. But not nearly as much as the Elevator Pass has.

Anyways any critisism is welcome, as long as you explain why e.g. "Bad idea" aint welcome. I know that more people have seen friends stop playing because of the trivial game content you end up with when you have reached your goal of the gear you want.

Sherperd has thought about another competetive content idea, similar to survival mode in L4D just with 2 teams fighting. I really like the idea and if people are fixated on this new idea, then please do check out his post aswel http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/36323 .

Not bad

Not a bad idea, seems it could be fun. I also don't know about crowns, but maybe another kind of token different from Krogmo Coins could fit here. I made a similar suggestion in http://forums.spiralknights.com/es/node/32466 but it is more a "8 players in 2 teams" thingy. Maybe it could fit too as another different event, so to not have only one kind of PvPvE mode as we have now Blast Network and Lockdown.

Well as long as its PvPvE it

Well as long as its PvPvE it might work, i really don't think PvP will ever be that huge in Spiral Knights. The gameplay just doens't allow it, however PvE is a huge deal of fun.

I'd say the crowns should still be there, it would be a different way of clockworking, and the loosers would be better of with farming regular clockworks, while the winners would see a profit.

As for the prizes, i don't think tokens would be the best idea, rather have a ranking system and award the top players with unique accessories and/or implement titles into the game. I think this would be a huge thrill to the more "serious" players of the game.

But i like your "defence" idea aswel, one doesn't exclude the other, as said earlier PvPvE is a great idea imo.

I like the idea, but I dunno

I like the idea, but I dunno if just speedrunning levels is the way to do it; doing stuff fast doesn't necessarily equate to doing it well.

What I'd suggest is a more points-based system, where damage and revs subtract from a team's rating for the dungeon. Time could still be a factor in scoring, but it'd carry less weight than careful play. The best scores would come from teams that did fast runs without taking much damage, of course. But a team that finished really fast, but with a half-dozen revives and 4HP between them, would score less than a slower team who finished on full health.

I do think that Krogmo coins would make for good rewards, so long as they were kept in proportion to winnings from extant PvP modes. Personally I don't have much love for Lockdown, and so few people play Blast Network now that getting hold of Krogmo recipes is taking a loooooong time. I'd love another option.

Well firstly, as stated the

Well firstly, as stated the Clockworks for this "mod" would have to be modifed so you couldn't skip monsters, this way both teams would have to kill the same amounts of monsters - Also speed should be the most important factor, most people can play a clockworks VERY safely avoiding all damage but it takes a long time. Good players are able to mitigate the healthloss and still purr out massive damage.

But i think you're right with health being another factor, could make it a bit like Left 4 Dead (Zombie shooter) where you gain points for the amount of hitpoints left of the entire team. But i still think time should be the factor that weighs the most.

Also for rewards, i think then new content should appeal more to the "core" players of this game, the older players who have optained what they can in this game. I think the rewards most appealing for this would either be Unique accessories and/or titles - not more krogmo coins.

Anyways cheers for your comment, really hope that more people join in.

Yup the biggest i can think

Yup the biggest i can think of is World of Warcraft. But there are many others. In Wow (World of warcraft) some guilds are even payed to compete PvE.

Roz, I like it

Overall it's a good idea. I like a combination of Effrul's suggestion and yours. Speed should account for something, but losing points for monsters left behind, areas not cleared ETC. Frankly, i could see myself sinking many many hours into this style of game. Well thought out Rozzet, and all those who have contributed so far.

That would be another way of

That would be another way of doing it, i like that actually, loosing points for skipping monsters. That way you wouldn't have to have to many party buttons to fix the matter. Great imput.

Aye competetive gameplay

Aye competetive gameplay often keeps players in the games.

Well Balarick, i think that option would more suit the "mode" that Sherperd recently thought about. His thread is linked up in mine. You should check that out.
