Questions from a new(old) player.

I dabbled in Spiral Knights ages ago, when energy had to be spent to traverse levels. I wandered away for a while and now I'm back and everything is changed! I'd like to get some questions answered, if I may.

1.) There are items whose appearance when previewed at market is not the same as its icon on the wiki. Example: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Kat_Eye_Mask The white face of this mask appears to be purple when viewed on the paper doll. Does the color of armor change depending on certain character generation choices? Is it a bug in the previewer? What's going on?

2.) There are several accessory items that I'd love to get my hands on, but they appear to have been part of a seasonal event. Is there any way to get certain accessory items outside of those events? (Example: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Drakon_%28Divine%29 )

3.) Many accessories I'd like to get only come from Iron Lockboxes or similar. Is there a way to get them aside from randomly obtaining one through the end of level roulette? (Not including purchasing them from auction)

I may have other questions as I continue to re-familiarize myself with the game.
Thanks!

not an expert

I'm not an expert in cosmetic questions, but I'll give some answers, and maybe an expert will come along later with better answers.

1. Some parts of your knight's appearance depend on his personal color. Maybe that explains the discrepancies you're seeing?

2. First, in case you don't know, Drakon (Divine) is not an accessory. It's a battle sprite (one of the reskins of the drakon, which is one of the three basic types of sprite). Now about your question: You can't get event items directly from the game if the event isn't running. But frequently these items are unbound (or can be unbound at Vise). So you might be able to find other players selling them.

3. Yes, you can buy Iron Lockboxes from other players. They're not even very expensive. But opening them requires a Silver Key, which is more expensive. See Lockbox.

Welcome back to the game.

Thank you! It turns out I was

Thank you!

It turns out I was looking at the Black Kat hood, which is a completely different item. Oops.

I thought the Divine drakon was just a skin that's applied to your existing drakon pet? So if I get the Divine version, he'll have to be leveled again, I imagine.

Is there any circumstance in the game where energy drops as a result of combat, or is it exclusively supplied through real money purchases and market trading?

Divine Drakon is a separate sprite, thus you'd need to level him independently of your first sprite.

You can only acquire energy through real money or through market trading. However, energy is no longer required for... well... anything. The only thing that I can think of which still requires energy would be unbinding.

EDIT**

Oh yeah, Energy gates. Thanks guy below me!

Energy gates.

Yes, all reskins are separate sprites and require separate leveling.
