Orbs of alchemy (I'm sorry!)

I know this has been posted to death (again, sorry D:), but it doesn't make sense to me that eternal orbs of alchemy are so common compared to the other orb types. Might a better system be to spread the lower orbs into the higher tiers (to an extent). i.e.

Instead of
S1 - 1*
S2 - 2*
S3 - 3*
S4 - 4*
S5 - 5*
S6 - 5*

use
S1 - 1/2*
S2 - 1/2/3*
S3 - 2/3/4*
S4 - 3/4*
S5 - 3/4/5*
S6 - 4/5*

with the same overall drop rates ('orb' drop rate stays the same, with the type of orb being randomly chosen from those available to that stratum).

This distribution would also solve (IMO) the issue of 5* orbs being so common, and would better reflect the drop pattern for fire crystals.

Comments?

how would this affect revenue?

Your idea seems quite reasonable. However, any serious proposal for altering the game's progress or economy must be accompanied by at least some discussion of how the change would affect Three Rings' revenue. A good starting question is: What fraction of revenue still comes from energy sales, as opposed to promotional prize box sales?

This will never happen. Look at it by developers side: They lost much on making CE into orbs, which are dropable, what already means free gear from time to time - You sometimes have to pay or farm much. In way you are suggesting then every item would be craftable without effort. Profit from this to developers would be minimum.

All of your topics on this forums are hitting dead horse, which were discussed to ground and will change nothing.

its allabout the money

Just think about it. You just crafted 4 star weapon and you have 1k eternals. What do you do? Ofc you craft it to five star. And then you have to buy radiants because your weapon is nothing unless you heat it to ~lvl 7 and radiants dont drop. Its perfectly made money system. I hate it but gj ooo.

If anything, his suggestion would make 5* orbs rarer, increasing the revenue made from orb sales. Right now, if I want a 4* orb, I know EXACTLY where to go for it and because of that have tons of the things lying around that I purposefully generated. With this, I couldn't necessarily just do that with 5* orbs- especially if it was anywhere near an even split.

I'd like to think that it's a lot smarter for the developers to sell costumes than it is for them to sell orbs anyway. Selling progress directly just feels wrong, and many players see that as being pay to win, disowning titles like Spiral Knights simply because of this possibility. Selling costumes that can be subtly traded for progress is a different story- regardless of how greedy it makes the developers seem, it's a win-win for everyone.

@Janeks good point, I forgot

@Janeks good point, I forgot about money grubbing, bad balance will cause increase in sales of elites and rads, rather than no purchases from a steady progression of orbs and fire crystals.

@Fehzor I (along with the rest of the playerbase) need your secret! xD

It's a nice idea to sell costumes, but more players (I believe) would be willing to buy orbs than costumes. Another game I played used to sell only costumes, but then expanded into gear (which made everyone mad) for more cash.

My preferred model is subscription based (i.e. limited access to advanced content), but where that subscription may also be obtained through gameplay (eg. shadow lairs)
