Valiance Sucks??

My brother says that if you have to go for a blaster, you HAVE to go for a damage typw one. Is this true? I personally want to get Valiance but he won't let me :( (I play arcade more). Is it ok to get Valiance or should I actually get a damage type one?

Valiance and its three non-normal variants are boring but dependable. They do okay damage, but not great damage. The knockback is a little interesting.
The truth is that the piercing variant does very little damage compared to Blitz Needle, Plague Needle, or Callahan. The elemental variant does very little damage compared to Nova Driver or Storm Driver. The shadow variant does very little damage compared to Umbra Driver or Grim Repeater (or maybe Winter Grave). So don't get any of these guns if you want to do a lot of damage.
I might even go so far as to say that Valiance is the best one to get. Because you're going to use this gun only for amusement, or maybe for occasional knockback utility. And in those cases you might as well use it on all monster families.

@Midnight-Dj I can confirm that Valiance does work with AT. Any gun with a fast moving bullet usually does, but I think you have to be standing still? I see a lot of people just dash>stand>fire>repeat with the striker boost. Some try to hide it too, but you can easily tell. The Valiance variants are just great for LD even without AT though.
And yeah, Valiance is a decent weapon, but being someone who crafted DVS as my first 5*, I can say that being decent does not get you very far. Feel free to get one if you want, because it will be cheaper and faster than searching for the special damage typed ones.
If you do go for one of special ones, the piercing one has the least use in my opinion. Most enemies weak to piercing dodge attacks or move a little strangely which limits its usefulness from what I have seen.

The Valiance is rather meh. I've always felt that the Valiance is an amazing gun in all respects... except for its damage... which is a rather big weakness. The specialized damage type Blasters solve this problem. I'd recommend the Arcana. Constructs and Undead are easy targets for blaster type guns.
@Bopp
I think the fairer comparison is between the Blasters and Antiguas. Both gun lines are more sidearms than primary DPS weapons. Antiguas have a bit more damage and the larger clip, while Blasters get the knockback and stagger. If you have an Antigua already, the Blaster will feel a bit redundant.

These guns aren't high damage per second, but they do offer a lot of dependable and safe damage that can really benefit a lot of loadouts. They also don't need any stats to get them where they need to be-- whereas things like blitz needle become incredibly powerful after you buff them out to max everything, valiance and co. don't benefit nearly as much and so appear to start out stronger. This makes them complement loadouts that already have a source of high damage, and cannot afford to buff out a handgun or simply don't need another high damage dealer.
Consider this loadout for Legion of Almire:
Full snarbolax including shield or full black kat
Warmaster rocket hammer (asi UV)
Arcana (asi UV)
Maskeraith with deadly shadow cloak
Sprite skill/trinkets: Sword ASI/Health +6/MSI +2
Warmaster rocket hammer can be used to deal all of the heavy damage. It can take out deadnauts and crush slags when it needs to. Arcana is just there to help out with this fighting style, dealing damage to enemies when it can because why not but more importantly mitigating as much risk as possible-- especially when the player is low on health.

I disagree with replies in this thread. I'd say Blasters are almost on par with Alchemers, the only thing better about the latter being the charges. While they might have a bit lower damage and no ricochets, Blasters have an excellent hitbox so it's really easy to hit two enemies with them. Suppose you're doing 200 damage per hit with Arcana in FSC. If you hit two enemies, that's 400 damage and 1200 damage per clip, or 800 damage per clip if you pause shoot/single switch.
In the long run, Valiance is worse than its specialized counterparts (that is, if you can get all three). But if you are not looking forward to become a dedicated gunner and want to be a sword master, valiance is a good sidearm to have for any range shenanigans in the clockwork. And from what I heard, valiance is pretty good in LD when AT is on <- need citation on that
