Rude and Ignorant Players

I like to run Ranked Mission 9-3: FireStorm Citadel with random players once in a while instead of the usual groups I hang out with. It makes for an interesting experience. It's also usually how I meet new players and gaming friends. Of course, not all of the runs with randoms make for a positive experience. Every once in a while. I do run into rude players in the mission lobby. You know the type ... the ones without the proper social/online etiquettes. They often say and/or do things that are completely inappropriate or just downright rude, generally ruining the experience for me and others involved.

Earlier today, I saw a lone player who goes by the name Death-Key, who has been waiting for a while in the LagStorm Citadel (LSC) lobby all by himself. Wanting to run with randoms, I invited the person to join my party. Shortly after, Death-Key accepts my invitation and joins. He's a Vanguard. I greeted him (probably a "he"). He doesn't greet me back, nor does he wave. Instead, the first thing he does, upon joining my lobby, is to inspect me, not that it would have given him much info since I always have my Full Inspect disabled.

To others, I appear as a Knight Elite (Rank 6-1) ... who is wielding a Voltedge and a Swiftstrike Buckler.
So that alone, right there, is an obvious giveaway that I am not the run-of-the-mill Knight-Elite.
Whereas Knight Elites don't have direct access to Ranked Mission 9-3, I do.

But anyway, I digress. Back on topic, he looks at my rank and then proceeds to say the following:

(Not sure whether this screenshot of the lobby and dialogue will display. In case it doesn't, see the dialogue below.)

Sent invitation to Death-Key.
Sent invitation to Vii-Memati.
(Vii-Memati joins.)
(Death-Key joins.)
Hello! Kikume greets Death-Key.
Vii-Memati: hi
Hello! Kikume greets everyone.
Death-Key: Yep as expected never take invite from strangers
Death-Key: This smells like mental arsonism
Death-Key: And I'm not partaking in this
(Death-Key leaves the party.)
--------------------------------------

Apparently, he passed a judgment based solely on my rank and decided that the reason for extending the invitation was to have me carried.
If that's what he suspected, he could have handled it in any number of ways that befit a Vanguard.
If his skills weren't up to par, if his equipment was inadequate, or if he just didn't want to invest 20-30 minutes of his time to run with someone through FireStorm Citadel (FSC) for what he perceived to be an ultimately futile mission or torture, he could have politely refused. Instead, he chose to be an asshat as evident in his response.

FYI, my reason for extending him an invitation was to run the mission as a team because I find Spiral Knights to be more enjoyable when played as a group rather than solo. I can comfortably carry a full team of 'deadweight' Vanguards all by myself through FSC/LS on Elite mode. I do not beg other players to run with me. Nor do I ask anything of them other than to do their best and have fun. After all, this is an MMO. But not all players share a similar mindset. There are always a few players who leave a very negative impression and dampen the fun. They're unavoidable.

Have you had a similar experience? If so, share your story. I would like to hear about them.

I've seen certain players saying that they only want to do "optimized" runs with meta gear, 2 people only, etc

but being underestimated is what you should expect when running a smurf account, already it seems you want to be "recognized" despite keeping the account at a lower rank.

If I use my alt to run T3 stuff I just run it with people who already know me and that it's an alt.

(as a heads up, I recommend removing the player name from ur post so u don't get hit with an Auto Target banstick)

storytime!

i was on an alt with Combuster, EV, and a strike needle, with full chaos and SSB. decent Vana set, but not ideal due to noob 4* Strike Needle.

So I opened an FSC lobby, and left the party open for a little bit cause this game is fun AF with a party. A random person joined, and I cheerily greeted them and waved hello. the person blatantly ignored my greeting completely and just said "open inspect.", so I did, thinking they were just curious. They inspected me, then they left without saying another word.

Was confused for a bit, but only after half an hour or so I realized they must've seen my Strike Needle, concluded I was a Vanaduke peasant that would just drag them down, and decided to leave without so much as an explanation or friendly chat explaining that they were looking for better equipment (where they would've learned I could do Vana in 20-25 mins).

I found this behavior incredibly rude, and began dissolving in my own salt.

It can be very difficult to deal with rude people, but ya learn how to deal with em over time.

It's really unfortunate that you had to encounter such an upstanding member of the community :)

If people are going to make an issue of someone not using the "right" gear or having a high enough rank in a PUBLIC FSC lobby then it's on them for joining/starting one, you're not at fault in any way. I've encountered players similar to the one you described and the only advice I can give is to just ignore them. If they have a personal benchmark for a PUBLIC FSC lobby or aren't good enough that a person of "lesser skill" weighs them down then it's on them for entering such a domain.

I'm surely disappointed, but

I'm surely disappointed, but not surprised anymore, people in this community always had a bone to pick with players with low ranking, low prestige numbers, and "inadequate" equipment, which makes me very sad to see.

The player in question is one person that I know of, and they usually don't care about player's equipment, but it looks like I was wrong.

Was Vii a player that also

Was Vii a player that also had good FSC gear?

That may be the reason to why he left.

What Hatn said. If people want to run FSC at peak efficiency, they have a friends list. The meta methods aren’t used by everyone, and those that do use them probably aren’t going to be in a public lobby. Carrying someone isn’t even that hard if you’re competent.

as for me

I only join groups that I'm sure can carry me 'cuz I absolutely suck at Vana. I'm the player with the Shivermist 'cuz that's about all I can do. Please invite me when you are half-way thru level 27 - thank you.

I find this situation really funny, but depressing

Why I find it funny it's because I run FSC with Triglav, Plague Needle, Electron Vortex and Fang of Vog (armor is Seerus Mask and Vog Cub Coat btw), and nobody has every wanted to leave the my team because of that (although maybe being Guild Master and running mostly with guildmates has to do something about it I guess), at most, they said things like "nice meme gear" or "Dani inventing off-meta now", and most of the time taking everything as a small joke, which we all laught together at.

And the reason why I find it depressing is that after all of that good experience I can actually relate to you, Kikume, since when I still was not using the gear I use right now (basically I was your typical Chaos + Combuster and blitz user, which I feel ashed of being), and I was not doing a WR speedrun, many people would oftenly just mock me or treat me poorly. Like really, I get "time is money" and all that things but at the same time, for me it's kinda nonsense considering that you are doing it to just get money and not to have a fun/relaxing time, which is why I actually use the gear I play with, and it's why I try to play the darn game on the first place X'D

My recommendation is to just find a good amount of friends or guildmates you feel ok to do runs with and stick with em, and if no-one is connected, perhaps do something else like arcade, that's what I do at least, because solo FSC for me it's pretty boring (and no, it's not because I die a lot, i promise I have done several solo FSC runs with my """meme""" gear without the need to use sparks at all).

PD: FoV > Combuster, change my mind.
PD2: Kikume, if ya ever want somebody to chill with while farming I'm always up to make a new friend! Although I might not be too active lately.

Questions ?

What is FSC ?

Do people just assume everyone has the same play styles ?

Why is it some people just run into crowds , spikes , exploding blocks ? When the other player is trying to avoid them ?

Personally i usually play solo. But since i been back a couple of players that joined my " Open " party..... Seem to play like they are in a hurry. Maybe my character is slow because i have no : trinket slots , energy , or a full set of 5star gear.
Also , when i solo i play mostly as a gunner. I try to use the terrain to my advantage . I will run backwards shooting at the enemy coming towards me, and funnel them into a corridor where they can bunch up and i can shoot them all at once.
OR if there is a wall that i can shoot through , OR if there is a wall of blocks i shoot at least one block so they can filter through one by one and snipe at them that way.... My point is.... being my type of gunner (trying to get the enemies to chase me ) It makes it hard to back up the other player if they go the opposite direction , walking through everything .

Firestorm Citadel

FSC is a common abbreviation for Firestorm Citadel --- where Lord Vanaduke lives.

When you're solo, the AI reacts only to you, so you can control the monsters pretty well. When you're in a party, the other knights can cause the AI to behave unpredictably. It can be easier to play solo.

Some knights who rush in are incompetent, but others aren't. Consider an Acheron user, who rushes into a crowd, kills a gremlin mender with a charge, and rushes out. They're doing your party a service, even if they disrupt your gunning in the process.

That's a good point.

I always try to get the healer first as well. Unfortunately i've dealt with the first. Is there a forum here , where people can talk strategy ?

this is the place

This General Discussion forum is the place to discuss strategy, tactics, tricks, tips, etc.

If you feel uncomfortable with your level of knowledge, then you could post in New Recruits instead. But that forum is not read nearly as much as General Discussion.
