the knight directly to the right in the picture is wearing an unreleased item which may or may not be the re-release of the magikat hat.

some rumors have been floating around about a new teir 3 boss, but nothing has been officially stated as of yet.

another variation was caught being worn by a spiral knight moderator, Clotho

what concerns me is that these two older versions of the "kat hat" both have their eyes closed while this newer version shown in the preview has its eyes open.
could it be a completely different hat? maybe the missing 4th star? or perhaps they just decided to change the art style after of year of discontinuation.

Just a tidbit of info, I'm pretty sure that there's both the Magikat CAP and the Magikat HOOD as seperate items, to address your point over the eyes being open or closed.
Personally I also say not to look into it much.
(And the image was used in the last Power Surge was it not? Proof of a trend of image reuse?)

Or maybe the magikat hat will split off into a purring line (with white / pleasant aesthetics) and the "eyes open" line (with purple / evil appearance).

But yeah, given the age and scattershot nature of the images it's anyone's guess, as any of this could have been altered or scrapped.

Someone started a fourm somewhere that used to have a picture of it, but a GM or something like that (i think it was euidice that took it down? spelled wrong...) took it down becuase that person haxed or something. Supposedly looked like a mushroom.

Yes, that image has been used before. Power Surge events happened during the preview as well.

This hat http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/9996/skgmpc.png is actually the old model for wolver.
The magikat hat (black one) dropped from some chests during preview.
The ones with stitches are unreleased/devonly, or used to be around during previous previews and were never reintrocuded (like jaws of megalodon and other many items). The stitched purple one matches chaos cloak nicely, I think they were supposed to be a set.
