Just to have said it at some point, the whole suggestion forum sickens me. Not the constant suggestions about dual wielding or making crowns easier to get heat more useful or whatever. Sure, they are annoying, but the real thing that disgusts me is the very existence of the "Suggestion" sub-forum.

The reason?

Of all the suggestions, almost none have been adressed, let alone realized. And which did get the most attention? Pets.
Really? Pet threads have been constantly buried under negative feedback, but yet every newb with an account came here to make a new one. AND IT WORKED.
The hell is wrong with this?! Why do they even bother with giving us the option? It's as if they are mocking us!

It would be really nice if anyone actually took the time to, you know, acknowledge anything in here or at least give us a guideline as to what they want to see. Because OBVIOUSLY they don't care about weapons. Or armor. Or anything related to-... I have no idea what they even look for.

You don't actually have a problem with the existence of the subforum, you have a problem with what goes on in it and how it is treated by devs.

Devs, mind throwing us a post as to what kinds of ideas you look for here?

Every GMs got their own rules.

In other forums, some devs listen and actually reply their thoughts back. my favorite developer of all time, Dmage, actually makes this sticky thread about, lets say, Better Wys to respawn, and the foumers get to pitch thier ideas. <3 it.
Heck, i got two of my ideas realized in that indie game. but...

This is OOO's forums. There professionals. Its probaly their thing not to reply in Suggestions, (even though i know they read some stuff, as in updates there are these "hidden" ideas, suggested by forumers. the one im thinking recently is someone posted about Monster Heads on Plaque, which now turns out to be in the Hunter's Lodge.)

anyway, SK Suggestion are added to see just a couple of ideas. Maybe some ideas the devs didnt think about but for the most case, they have their own agenda to do.

but still

It would be nice to have a list by the devs called "this stuff that will 100% never go into the game ever". And then make it mandatory to read before you post a thread.

Sure, they do a few things

But there are so many tpics that NEED to be adressed. Troika? Spur? Polaris? Plate Mail? Magnus? Sealed Swords?
Even as simple things as changing the Antiquas charge attack to something swords have since ages has never been adressed.
Damn, they even actively surpress RSS threads!

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Use Google. My thread was probably (even just slightly) influential.

OOO reads the Suggestions stuff. The guild hall all someone else's idea. A huge amount of what's in place today is just like that suggestion.

Also

That small suggestion about showing a preview on furniture. Which OOO took a step further and made 3d models first for armors, weapons, etc and then furniture.

Red 5 stuidos, the guys

Red 5 stuidos, the guys making firefall LOVE to communicate and talk to their people even while their game is still in beta. The thing here is, OOO is a pretty small company. They only have like what? 10 to 20 people working? The got a lot going on in the game, I bet they do look at posts, but never get a chance to respond to them. I do agree though, they should atleast shoot us a message thats like "Hey, we are not looknig for this, or we could use some ideas for this." sort of thing once in a blue moon.

You should realize that it

You should realize that it takes some real WORK to change even a charge attack, making 3D textures and coding is pretty hard.

I am also pretty sure they look for some really smart or interesting ideas.

Picking ideas

Although the suggestion forum is full of suggestions, many are not chosen because they are either not well thought out, pointless (trolling or just plain useless), not relevant to the game, or are good but not good enough and maybe some others that I forgot.

The only suggestions from the forum that I know have been recognized are the guild hall and pet suggestions. I'm probably guessing that suggestion threads with around 80+ or so who like the idea are likely to be added to the game.

The thread about having a shadow version of a magnus has quite a bit likes to it so that might "possibly" become something.

Other threads that don't seem to be worked on like weapon/armor buffs are probably being worked on till later in the future or OOO thinks they shouldn't buff them anymore.

This is not about how much

but about what. (And even the "how much" is rather little.) Autofire, your thread is about pets, which I mentioned. Aumir mentioned the preview, which sure is nice, but really? It's luxury given all those things with a definitly higher priority.
And yes, changing a charge could be work, if we where not talking about cutting something out. After all it doesn't seem to be to much work to programm a bunch of NPCs to wander through town, so why not spend all that energy on something a bit more helpful?
Yes of course they do SOME things, but there is ABSOLUTLY no communication between them and the community. Sentinel-Zxs ideas might even be right, but would could not know, because no one ever talks about what they are doing. Right now it's just a big "We don't even care".

And NO, "not thought through" is not an argument as they never even put 99% of the stuff on the testservers.
Great example would be MSI: Let the people try it, see how a higher MSI feels. But no, they didn't.
The did exacly jack about many things that COULD be tested. Easily tested, like changes on armors and some weapons.

As Laminavio said, you have no idea how much work a seemingly simple change might require.

Even the most simplest change would require a whole basis for thought on the economics of the game, social factors, and anything. No changes in the game must be detrimental nor substantially beneficial to the SK community. Think that in terms of economics, social and balance, in a 4 man development team, working along with the 6 man artists and 5 man engineers. Think again.

Though Nick does pass by from time to time, GMs take the most monitering, and do in fact tell Nick about any potential suggestion. You look at how you want to improve the spur, now tell me how it might affect the economics if the spur does improve, hinting to players to craft spurs and pump them into the market. People will complain, especially a near 100k ACTIVE playerbase. Now tell me you need to nerf the wolver sets, and look at the 10s of thousands of player that has already own the gear.

When pets were first announced, many people place their concerns, in terms of balance, missions, workout, how it works, economical benefits etc. How hard is it to be a game developer of a MMORPG, I would say hard.

I believe the main reason that pets have gotten such negative feedback in the suggestions subforum is that most of those who have suggested pets and such have said something like "hurrdurr pets plz". I'm finding sprites to be interesting. Who knows what they might be? Nobody. Maybe I'll be disappointed, maybe not. So yeah, I, for one, welcome our new super squee potentially game-breaking overlords.

@Laminavio
You're somewhat incorrect. A method probably exists for implementing content already, so that the devs don't have to "hardcode" everything. They (probably) just need to input some data for graphics, speed, damage, et cetera. Also, charges are primarily about animation and not textures, as the weapon in question doesn't often change looks, though the positioning of it as well as it's wielder often does. Of course, texturing will always beneeded for new weapons and for new special effects.

I'd rather they comment and participate more in the community too. I mean, if I spend maybe 30 minutes every day on the forums writing and replying to stuff can't they? Its kind of relaxing really. Though they can't just implement everything, or even anything much of the time. Right now, I would guess that they've got their hands full balancing and implementing pets? They probably want to get more than just 3 pets as well- as that would be rather lackluster for an entire gameplay mechanic. They've been developing pets for almost a year now too alongside other things.

The developers have sadly gone with Democracy as their leading model of what-to-develop, which is nice in some aspects, but not in others. They seem to have gotten these aspects backwards in some occasions.

"No changes in the game must be detrimental nor substantially beneficial to the SK community."
Oh good thing that's never happened, then. (This is the part where I link to the dozens of times it has happened, but I can't be bothered.)

It would be nice for everyone involved if there was more communcation between the players and developers. It's easy to hate upon OOO because they're acting the part of a faceless corporation, hiding in the shadows and being secretive, occasionally sending an underling into rage threads to go "guys, guys, keep it civil please?". It's not so easy to rage against Nick Popovich, the developer mingling with the playerbase and earnestly sharing his views.

We used to have the latter, but Nick only comes out once in a while these days. Remember when other developers would reply to threads? Me neither. It was before my time. Maybe we should be posting our concerns and suggestions on twitter.

So... an update can't do anything overly good for the game? what?
