From December 2010: "by instancing sub-towns it allows us to add all kinds of random characters in them that can make each visit unique. More on that later."
http://forums.spiralknights.com/es/node/775

"later" = Kataclysmic Confrontation - February 2013

Did I miss something?

I don't think that's what they meant by "unique"... It's still the same every time. I do think they have a tendency to forget they said things though :/

In 2010 they said they'd add new NPC's to subtowns AKA Emberlight/Moorcroft/Basil, and just now 2013 they added the kitties in moorcroft.

No, OOO is just too forgetful.

I can understand why they would stop telling us things, but they kind of suck at not telling us stuff too, then...

They don't need to tell us everything they're doing, but it sure would be kind of really awese if every once in awhile some representative of OOO showed up to say, hey, we're working on some stuff, we think it's about x% completed, hope you guys like it, we are listening to you.

Wait, I feel like I've said this before...

btw looking at this thread makes me think about the core everytime
just wondering what happened to the core development - no pun intended - does anybody know? was it supposed to be opened? was the idea discarded? for some reason i dont feel like doing research on that 1

Hmm, to be honest, if I was a player who doesn't ever come on to the forums,

I would think that there is no in game assistance or GM's around working.

Most successful games out there, there are GM's in game interacting with the community constantly.

For example, just show up and make some sort of a joke, throw a funny event or any sort of mini party from time to time, just to show that the team cares.

Slow content update isn't a problem, some games I've played (i'm not going to mention names), they might not have any major content update for months, but they fill each month and week with constant events and fun.

Most of the time, recycling contents with stuff that they already have, they make the best of out the contents they already have.

Sometimes they even have a schedule ahead to let the players know a few months ahead of what is going to happen, for example:

January: New years promotion
February: Valentines week special
March: Elevator cost 50%
April: Easter week

The point is, the community needs to have something to do or something to look forward to.

I think I'm one of the more active players, always around in haven to eavesdrop conversations and the most constant complain I have from my friends is that the game is getting boring, there is nothing to do. (I will burn in hell if I lie)

Cool, stuff like the Kat hats and stuff are really amazing and freshening, I just think there needs to be more of these sort of events.

I used to be disappointed with the developers recycling old material and adding different tones and colors as new material, but at least there was something going on.

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the staff working on new stuff, new features like battle sprites and the shield bash and dash thingy, but is it that hard to just have a few elevator discounts or ce promotions every now and then.

Will it really do a lot of damage to the in game community and be that hard to organize mini events or like weekend events? is it really that hard? Do we always have to wait for one or two months for there to be something new to do.

I don't usually complain, but here I am expressing my concerns.

So basically 4 months ago we were told Battles Sprites are coming before July

Less than two weeks ago they announced there will be GROUND-BREAKING changes in terms of gameplay with an addition of Dash and Shield Bash being usable in the CW.

Recycled event?

Slow updates?

Let me give you a quick refresh

Guild Hall - November

Winterfest - December (was the first one by the way)

Febuary - Moorcroft Promotions, Valentines Promotion

March - Kat event

April - Dust Bunnies, Glop Drop, Grave Scarab, Gorgos

May - Dash & Shield Bash? Maybe?

June - Battle Sprites limit

How is that slow content and recycled content considering they are a team of 10-20?

I don't get it, did you even played the last months?

@Shamanala:
The problem isn't with the number of updates they make, it's with "WHAT'S IN THAT UPDATE." Take the Dust Bunnies+Glorps+Scarabs as an example. Wasn't there much more important things to do than adding a 3 kinds of monsters? Wasn't fixing some items and buffing some underpowered weapons better choice? Wasn't giving Lockdown something new better than these mere 3 monsters? Heck even the Kat event, it wasn't that good and new 3 weapons would have been better. Dashing and Shield Bash? That might be good...

Since the Guild Hall update, I saw no "MAJOR CHANGES" in-game other than the freaking good, awesome and amazing UI update. Oh, don't forget the Chaos Buff that caused CHAOS.

I just want...

Nevermind, it's not necessary anymore.

All I've heard recently (recently as in, the last 12 months) is people complaining that there's no new content. Apparently few people care about the balance of the game's equipment, and OOO has responded to this by releasing the things people want: New enemies, new levels, the Kat Hats that everyone was asking for, more indepth combat mechanics...

BTW Shamanala the development team is 9 men strong last time I checked.

Ye should not forget that the Rings three hold not only this world in their heads, but at least another three.

Also, check out their company positions. You'll find some very interesting stuff. What kind of stuff? Which people are working where stuff. I don't fully endorse doing this since it may make you look like an obsessed fan. But if you just have to know who is working on what, be my guest.

This year we've got black kats, compounds, a new UI.... all great things that were released almost as a surprise, with no anticipation.

But when they do "announce" something, they keep us waiting and waiting.
That's my take.

It goes this way: I like cursed black kats, but they promised us tortodrones.

Erm...

Being someone who's only been playing for a grand total of about six months or so, I've noticed very few changes. Keep in mind though, a lot of stuff often slips past me, so I don't always notice things. However, these updates were probably insignificant and pointless anyway, so...

Anyway, here's what I've seen:
That stuff in Moorcroft Manor, Black Kats (I have yet to meet one), the new UI, Gorgos, a couple bug fixes, and compounds/minis. And most of that I didn't see until these past three months or so.

Now, given that OOO has done some pretty cool stuff, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and just assume that they're slow/forgetful. Or they all have ADD and can't stay focused on one project for long before switching to something else.

OOO is trying to throw in

OOO is trying to throw in gimmicky new stuff, like overpriced accessories in AH, new useless monsters (minis and gorgos), and doesnt give 2 craps about the players and their wants. Remember when OOO listened and buffed the winmillion, Iron Slug, WHB, hipster armor and weapons in general, and added new interesting content for F2P and P2P players alike? I don't.

I used to play a game called Freefall Tournament. The dev, Freerangegames, was honestly the best, most friendly, player interactive developer i have found. They answer to friend requests and PMs, make jokes, and best of all, LISTEN to the playerbase and what they want. There is no way anyone can say the same for OOO. Combine Freerangegames' personality and mutual respect with OOO and Spiral Knights, and you have a SICK game. Sucks that the world is not perfect.

Point? Updates are gimmicky. Player requests are blatantly ignored. No really interesting new content. Basically, OOO is doing their own thing, and could give 2 craps about the players; as long as we pay, who cares, right?

Dont get me wrong, the game is VERY fun. It just cant be played without getting monotonous, unlike Freefall Tournament (Yes I know this and FFT are different genres, who cares).

This game is fun. The problem is not the game. The problem is the number of craps the Devs give about the players. That number is somewhere in the range of....0

Anyone disagreeing with the fact that OOO doesnt give a crap about us players (F2P or P2P) better have some examples of when OOO did something the players want without messing it up. Go on flamers, just try.

RE: Hexzyle

Let me go a little bit farther and take that "have some examples of when OOO did something the players want without messing it up." to its literal extent.

-Guild halls (and with it, mist wells)
We did ask for an expansion to our Guild Halls, yes, but we were expecting (and possibly implying) that it would be more of an add-on for how the Guild Halls looked like. Instead, our basic Guild Halls now look like [redacted] without any upgrades. Would you really take the current Guild Hall over the old ones? Would you take a small metal box over a two level balcony overlooking the Clockworks? Did Three Rings really need to destroy the Guild Hall into its basic components to make it into what it is today?

-Shard bombs
We were content with the current Shard Bombs. We (as far as I know) did not ask for a change, any change, let alone the one that was implemented, to these weapons. And yet Three Rings did so anyway.
P.S. If you can find a thread that asks for a change, any change, to the Shard Bombs, please, do tell.

-Consistent 5 explosions on brandish (used to be 1-5, back when the swords were ignored in favour of sealeds and caliburs)
I can give precisely zero [bothers] about the Brandishes other than the ability to vendor them for quick bux/ upgrade them for bigger bux. So, can't really say anything about this, especially since I don't know anything to say about it.

-Being able to move while reloading guns
I thought that this was already implemented from the beginning (with some exceptions... Mr. Magnus line), or is this a Beta implementation you're talking about? If so, is there a thread that contains the suggestion?

-General bombs and guns buff
Can't argue with something that makes everything a percent easier. We all know how much everybody wants moar dmge!

-Charge attack buff
For what? Everything? Nothing? Shard Bombs?

-Costumes
I can attest to the wanting for costumes. And it seems Three Rings also did as well. Forgotten whether it was available at the beginning or whether some Beta-goer suggested it.

-Danger missions
We asked for more. More levels, more Missions. What Three Rings gave us was incredibly hard Missions that were intended for a averagely-prepared group. Nothing for a new player. Only for the established echelons of players that have progressed quite a bit into the game.

-Pets (the pocket things)
We did ask for pets. We were told no, many times, by the community itself. We said we would compromise with an accessory (I know, I was there). Three Rings listened.

-Gremlin knockers
Don't think we asked for an annoying mini-gremlin enemy type. We did ask for more enemy types though. Hmm. The more I think about, the more Three Rings looks like an evil Genie.... You don't think-?

-Lockdown
Before we got Lockdown, we got Blast Network. No real relation to this admission that Three Rings listened to customer feedback, just wanted to say that.

-Locking UV lines
"Ask and ye shall receive." And receive we did.

-Howlitzers
Another enemy type. Good. It's a turret? Err. It shoots it's head off as a rocket when it dies?! Oh go- Actually, I think I can adapt to that. But boy, do I feel sorry for swordsmen and bombers.

-Polyps
Again, another enemy type. Good. Another Turret enemy type. Err. Omni-directional firing action? Well, guess that should add some strategy to the current levels.

-Personal color change
Yes we did. We also said we'd pay through the nose for them. Guess Three Rings took that literally.

-Ways to sell bound gear
Whatcha mean Hexzyle? You talking about Vendoring? The act in which you can sell still-bound gear to a vendor for a set amount of Crowns.

-Buyable shadow keys
We did ask for that. It also, effectively, set a rate for Shadow Keys. Why spend the Crowns on a Shadow Key when I can just convert the ones I would have given you into Crystal and buy a Shadow Key that way?

-Spectator Mode
Nothing wrong with that. Clunky as a [redacted] [redacted] though.

-Missions
I don't really remember where it was suggested (by the community) for something that remotely sounds like this. If you can find it, thanks in advance.

-Accessories
Can't complain. Mostly since I don't deal with them. Everyone else seems pretty happy though.

-Loadouts
Can't complain about this. Don't use, at all, but can't complain on the behalf of those that do.

-Auction House
Yeah, this was nice.

From what I know, very few leave their guildhall at the basic setup anyway. And how are mist wells messed up? The system works brilliantly.

What's wrong with Brandish charges, Byas?

Being able to move while reloading guns

It was something far back close to release (can't remember if it was before or after, fairly sure it was after)

Gremlin knockers

we were asking for more gremlins on gremlin themed levels, and this was the solution, which seems fine to me.

Missions

People were asking for a more defined storyline.

About shard bombs? Yeah even I mentioned changing them to a cluster-bomb like system, subconsciously in one of my threads.
And who says they're messed up? There's only a small bug with them, and compared to most of the other weapons, can't really be complained about individually (there are pretty much no weapons, bar the Stock and the elemental status branches, excluding the brandish, that are well balanced)

Every charge attack was buffed.

Before the buff, if you were hit while holding any amount of charge, you would lose it completely. After the buff, you don't lose a full charge at all, and you only lose a fraction of a partial charge.

Not really, if I leave it without a rank-wall I have a high chance of getting it rage-crafted by some recruit that will leave soon afterwards, but if I do put it under a rank-wall it will almost never get used, since the ones who would use the most are beginners that can't get enough cr to buy 100ce with 100mist. Functioning as a cool decoration? Yeah; As a useful system? Nope.

> What's wrong with Brandish charges, Byas?

Nothing, except being way too strong on PvE. It was outclassed by other weapons before, but now it just outclasses everything else, for it to not be messed up it shouldn't be nor 8 nor 80, but something between it.

I completely disagree. Our guild has the Mist Well put only behind a Member wall, and our guild members use it respectively and sparingly.
Maybe you need to look into your guild management - the mist well isn't only for "newbies", it's a very useful tool for 3-4 star players who don't have a Elevator Pass.

Nothing, except being way too strong on PvE.

Then it's not messed up, it's just a bit unbalanced. A small damage or speed nerf will right that easily.

I prefer the new Guild Hall Crown Sinks to the old useless one anytime, anyday, one loading screen for AH next to Crafters with Bechamel and Punch & Vise...

Personally... I effing love the guild hall...

Of course if you have the default one you will be butthurt, if you had 100 active players giving 2k cr each per week and only TWO, yes I repeat, TWO P2P who puts actual $ in the guild hall

Then you would have a starling GH and it would take you hours to configure it

And on the Mist Wells... each time a member ask about it I explain to them very clearly what's the purpose of it and how to properly use it and some ask me to put one in the member room, which I did for the time he used the mist well with me and the 90 other members who knew how the well works and KNEW they would have to pay ce back if they used someone else ce...

Which can be seen in the guild hall report section...

GH needs management now unlike before... Which is nice, Guilds have shifted with new goals in mind then before... I would call this a good thing because Guilds are more active, they mean something now and being part of "this awesome guld hall" means more than just being part of "this guild"

True, my guild's management has been getting pretty poor with a bunch of officers/gms abandoning the game due to getting bored of the same stuff. Although we also do have a certain "trauma" with the mist well and decided to lock it up, since when the guildhall update came we had to kick a lot of members out of the guild for abusing it. Guess I'm gonna try opening it up again (this time with a wall), who knows, maybe I even get a little more hope on humanity... Although I don't really see how it would help that much (members on my guild are just people who "look" trust-able and nice and have been on the guild for at least a week so that the others could know him/her, but still it was the same members who turned out to be rotten and abused it when we opened the well, and veterans are people with 5*, guild time and bitz/shiver, so it wouldn't be of much use to them). A simple daily withdraw limit per rank would solve my insecurities with the system, but since they think a wall can solve everything I have to hope that all the members are really trust-able.

Our guild has a system where for each 20 energy or part thereof you withdraw from the well, you deposit 1,000 crowns into the treasury. And then we host raffles for random accessories and costumes and stuff in the officer storage where each 200 crown donation to the guild treasury counts as a "ticket". We also have several active officers who watch the guild donations for thieves and other mishaps.
