Do you know how they are gonna do it? Im talking about this: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/89218

"Over several patches, we intend to transform the Arcade into the place it has always aspired to be:
- A sandbox-type experience where unexpected things can happen
- A place where players can farm materials and items in between missions
- A feature that gives players some degree of control over the experience"

My Opinion: All maps will be randomized with Question Marks on Map Icons. (like the Treasure Vaults)

@ Canine

To be honest, I don't expect them to succeed in making Clockworks relevant again.

I'm not really sure what to expect from them to be honest, I just don't think it will hit the mark. They've made some enjoyable content, but they've had a zero luck with breaking the FSC farm paradigm.

I'm curious

If they are going to make these challenge modes and no one really joins anything anymore, how are these challenge team up rooms going to work?

@Kha

TBH, they've never really directly tried to. Who knows what will happen this time.

@Blade: I would assume they would be part of the coliseum or something similar.

if this is a thread for theory-making

I think the devs will be thinking way outside'f the box for this. I didn't expect them to drop the mist system, and I didn't expect the new heating system.
If the gate-building system is overturned, too, I wouldn't know what to expect.

Maybe they're developing a system to wean the arcade off'f a mineral dependence? Maybe we'll use mats? Maybe monsters could drop new rarities for us to collect and donate to the birdsong mining company? Maybe we can have hidden levers in random levels to influence level rotation? Maybe the Birdsong Mining Company will have a newsletter reporting weather and monster population changes? Maybe Wegner will have a weekly column advising knights what mats (eh, let's do something with our million shards!) will be accepted to construct (or deconstruct?) stratum themes. Maybe investing cr in the Birdsong Mining Company's "research efforts" will help them help us help them vary the arcade again.

People go where the crowns

People go where the heat and crowns are. It's that simple really.

I think the answer of how to make arcade relevant is clear at this point...

" I didn't expect them to drop the mist system"

Then you were short-sighted. It seemed like the next evolution after elevator passes. Games that start losing profitability slowly strip off subscription-based elements.

And I didn't expect the heating system exactly, but I expected that when they went fully F2P, they'd find a way to increase the time it would take to get loot. I was expecting decreased payouts honestly.
