Hello Staff folks and community!

This is my first post to the forums, sorry if this post is duplicated, I tried to use the search function and it threw a 503 error.
All in all I consider SK is a great game and I have devoted a big amount of hours to it. I just love it!

While I appreciate some of the latest changes to the game (like introducing battle sprites) I really think the new heating system is terribly bad to say the least.
It makse no sense to me at all to put roadblocks to prevent user progression in the game, making it less enjoyable i.e. new heating system. The only reason I can see behind this change is for Three Rings folks making more money, other than that is very bad game-design decision on my opinion. Crystals are hard to collect and on top of that you can waste them unless you go for the 100% upgrade price which makes upgrading weapons an extremely slow process.

I would really like to know a staff member's opinion on this regard because it makes no sense to me at all. I agree if you guys put additional challenges, but the rewards for overcoming those challenges should not be conditioned. I agree doing my homework and work hard getting my crystals, but at least compensate the effort and time put on getting them by granting the weapon upgrade! That is, please remove that unstable condition that only annoys players. I think that if you worked for it, you deserve it!

That's the case for battle sprites. They are extremely expensive little beasts, but they're worth it!! :)
All my efforts are reflected on my sprite slowly leveling up and there's no chance to just waste my materials, crowns and time invested on them.

Hope to get a reply soon

Thank you in advance

The forge system is there so people don't reach Vanguard in less than 3 days straight now that mist energy has been removed.

I agree with this

Quite a lot of us agree with how bad this new heating system works out. Finding the crystals and orbs needed to level up and finally upgrade 4* to 5* is a true task. It has discouraged me from leveling up many of my current 4* items.

The way I think this problem could be fixed with out the need to completely remove the Forge is let players use any amount of crystals they want and always get 100% but you can only get special effects (the Prize Boxes, bonus +25% heat, doable level) unless you toss in more.

searching tip

I can't really respond to your content, because it's all been discussed so many times. I'm here to help you search, in case you want help.

Do not use the forums' built-in search function. Instead, just use any regular web search engine (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.). You can even restrict your search to the SK forums by adding "site:forums.spiralknights.com" to your query. For example,

Google: forge site:forums.spiralknights.com

Thanks for your replies

Thank you guys for you replies.

I followed Bopp's advise and started reviewing some old posts about this topic, finding a lot of people hating the new heating system.
While I did find a lot of discussion on the topic, I didn't see any official position on Three Rings end, other than complaining it took a lot of effort to their dev team coding the forge system. I also found a lot of people in disagreement and providing suggestions on how to improve it. (I'm leaving out those who asked to revert it back to the old heating system).

Does Three Rings care about this at all? How can I identify a Three Rings staff member when posting? I have no idea how to tell if the person replying is another user with his own opinion or a staff member.

All in all, the issue is far from being resolved and I see no official position from Three Rings about it. I will keep searching the forums to find some info from them though.

Skyguarder, I think you didn't read the whole post. I agree the forge exists, I agree you have to spend time getting crystals, but once you worked hard to get your crystals (or spent energy acquiring them for those who have the money for doing that) it's fair to get the reward: level up!! and not being crossing your fingers because you can't afford the incredibly high amount of crystals to go for 100% for 4* and 5*

Hmm

Staff members all have a big fat "admin" tag on their profile picture.

But, yes, I agree. It takes a long time to move a 4* up to Level 10, then a 5* to Level 10, especially if you are going for 100% to avoid losing crystals. Like many things in F2P games, you can skip the time needed to grind for crystals by simply trading E for Crystals. Or if you have spare crowns laying around try CR to E to Crystals. Just really depends on what you want to spend, either in real money, time or CR.

right: not resolved; do not expect action

Right. There are many threads about this topic, and Three Rings has not responded with any change in policy.

This thread is just one more example. There is no reason to expect Three Rings to respond to this thread, when they haven't responded to the others. But you're welcome to try. Good luck.

Yes. I hate this heating system.

I shoudn't have to gamble to level up my stuff. It is not that type of game. I should be able t upgrade my stuff easily. This is very annoying, and what is the point of even adding a forge box if it has an extreemly low chance of spawining?

Forge is perfectly fine.

The forge is perfectly fine and all.

The only MAJOR flaw is the fact you can only go up 1(and is you're lucky, 2) levels per floor.

All the heat after that level you gained is lost forever, it should be a feature to be able to store heat you don't use once you finish a level.
Heat up level one (the excess heat is stored), forge, use excess heat to heat up level 2. We used to be able to heat multiple levels, I want that back, but the crystals can stay, those are fine.

I remember those days,

I remember those days, occasionally getting two levels in heat on a new piece of kit back then. I don't mind the new system so much aside from the slog to get radiant crystals. There really isn't a sure fire way to farm them that isn't time consuming like Citadel runs and can be incredibly boring.

You have brought up a few

You have brought up a few valid and interesting points.

First, all too often game developers will do things that don't make sense to us. But it doesn't always have to make sense to us. We don't know what they are trying to accomplish and what they have or don't have to do it with. What they are doing could be positive as in adding new content or it could be negative like to stop cheating, scams or something in the economy that is driving inflation through the roof. You probably weren't here for all the threads begging OOO to do something about the ce prices. Well, maybe they did. It is disrespectful to try and make them stop what they are doing to explain it to you. It's not something I would expect. They have a job to do and will be going home to their families and games as soon as they can. Just the same as we do when we punch out on the time clock. But I will let you in on a little secret, OOO has been known to give in and reply to (reward) those who have become obnoxiously rude and disrespectful to them and other users.

Second, the "unstable condition", the gambling...yep, they introduced gambling on a site geared towards children with no safe guards to make sure no one under 18 is gambling. I don't see any good here and I won't even go into how I feel about the system or being made to grind "Alone in the Dark" or Vana hundreds and hundreds of times to get the thousand or so crystals I need to heat a 5* weapon to level 10. They doomed us to tears with that one.

Third, bored to tears, "making it less enjoyable", "change is for Three Rings folks making more money", this is a common mistake many game companies have made in the past, are making now and will continue to make. If the games not fun, people won't play it let alone pay for it. Pay to play players support the game and free to play help make the game fun bringing in more people, some of whom will pay. But if you break the game and no one is there, no one will come. If they do, they aren't staying to play alone. They will look around, see no one is there. Most will see the nastiness left behind on the forum. They run. Greedy game owners who think we are playing on their personal possession fail to realize that when they went public and asked us to buy into their game they effectively made it ours too. They feel they can do whatever they want to their customers and the customer has to like it or leave, with the attitude of we don't want you. If you don't like it and don't hand over more and more cash, as they demand it, they kick you out because they turned you from a good little pr machine into a bitter gamer who is negative and no longer worth your weight in pr. They now have to damage control you too.

Forth, the damage control. "I have no idea how to tell if the person replying is another user with his own opinion or a staff member." You never know the true identity of those you meet in game either, do you? I'm not going any farther on that topic.

Now this all sets up to have a bad ending. We all know sites that have closed following the above pattern. Some who never changed things through the process but they were just trying to make large amounts of cash real fast. We would have made purchases on if it wasn't so expensive or if the purchase weren't worthless. We do the math and say to ourselves, $5.00 for a digital gun or tree that may not be here in a year, you're out of your mind. We again feel the urge, click to make the purchase, see the price and tell ourselves no. RIP NORD-died December 31, 2013. (No staff, no bug fixes or updates, hidden content open for all, a hackers delight, keep your children way from unprotected sites.)

OOO's is unique in how they operate. That forge system came about because they wanted to make a game and allow, even encourage, muli-accounting. They tough this was a good idea. That is would be easier, cheaper and better than trying to control cheating. They failed to foresee that if you give people an inch, they'll take a yard and stretch that into a mile. So they corrected that mistake and in the same sweep they catered to customer demands. The demand to remove mist and allow all to play for free. The same people who think they should play for free, play on the test server and have the right to tell the developers how the game and their business should be. Those who think 10 to 15 staff could ever possible read the feed back of thousands. Those who...
I'm rolling on the floor laughing over this one. Two and a half months later and I'm still laughing. Those grown adults, with homes (mortgages) and families who are professionals running a legitimate business, just allowed 12 and 13 year olds (who want to play everything for free and have no intention of ever paying for anything) to tell them how to run their business.

As far as Skyguarder, ignore him. He was once a good friend and a great forumer. But he has become tainted by all the bad forum etiquette around here. For months now all he's been doing is forum trolling. He will read every topic in every sub-forum and he looks for the opportunity to flame, poke and show his coolness by making others feel bad and look stupid. He has been known to intentionally and recklessly hurt others. He hasn't posted anything positive in ages. There's just zero value to anything he posts anymore. (Yes Benny, this is a wake up call. And don't stalk me ingame to talk about it. Just look at what you've become and do something about it if you don't like what you see.)
