10 hundred most common word riddles!

How to play:
1. One person tries to describe something using only the 1000 most common words in the English language.
Use this site to make sure you are not breaking the limit.
Try not to cheat by using the tips given in the hints. That makes it less fun :(
2. Other people try to guess what he/she is describing. The person declares a winner when he/she sees the correct guess.
3. I discourage people from posting new riddles before old ones are solved, but I can't enforce it.
(^This is because it will get too confusing with many riddles happening at the same time. If you're going to do it, please label your riddle.)
Riddle #1:
It's a thing that is used to hurt people by cutting their soft body and making them lose life water. You can hold the thing in your hand. It is long and made out of hard stuff. It looks like a cross near the spot where you hold it.
