I decided to switch my playstyle to bombing because being a swordie isn't that appealing to me. I have questions.
What loadout do you recommend?
Can you give any tips on being a bomber?
Shields???
Switching Playstyle
Have you read the Bombing Guide on the wiki? Last I checked, it was far better than the Swordmaster Guide and the Gunslinger Guide.
Let me echo some of Midnight-Dj's recommendations. Dark Briar Barrage and Dark Retribution are top-of-the-line. Either Voltaic Tempest or Ash of Agni is great for doing slow, big damage. Blast bombs such as Nitronome are great fun. There are also nice support bombs such as Venom Veiler.
Edit: And a vortex bomb is a must.
In my opinion if you want great crowd control try the Electron Vortex class.
I've heard mist bombs are very useful as well.
Why not try the Dark Briar Barrage?
To conclude, try the shard bombs... Except for the invincitinks, they work fine for large hordes of enemies, since they place down quickly.
If the previous shard bombs get reimplemented run for them at all costs.
As for shield, Crest of Almire, Gray Owlite Shield, Barbarous Thorn Shield, or Swiftstrike Buckler (3*) work GREAT!
Umm... I don't think ASI (SSB) or Sword DMG bonus (BTS) would be too helpful for bombers, and as there are no shields that give a direct bonus to bombers (save for perhaps torto shields because the shield bash is good for popping boxes), and as such, shouldn't really be recommended. There are better alternatives, and even if defense in this game doesn't help much, a sword DMG bonus doesn't do much for a bomber.
As for what bombs to get, Midnight-Dj pretty much covered it. For equipment, you'd probably (think this was said earlier?) want to go for volcanic demo for your first set, since it has CTR for your bombs, and later on you may want to switch to chaos or get mercurial demo.
The bombing guide Bopp mentioned is also pretty good, I'll even spare you the difficulty of having to look it up. It has a pretty detailed description of bombs, armor, tactics/strategies, and even battle sprites.
To understand how to bomb you must understand how each bomb functions.
I enjoy running a Mad bomber (people will say it is inferior to chaos) Big angry bomb (no one uses it because it is slow).
People complain that the BAB is a bad bomb because they do not realize it's intended purpose. The BAB is not an offensive bomb that you can place near enemies, it is a bomb that provides area denial (trivializing melee enemies such as mecha knights and wolvers). With this bomb you do not go "OUT" and bomb enemies but rather provide the perfect spot for your gunners to spam attacks.
If you want to put an enemy on the complete other side of the room you do not use an Ash of Agni you use the BAB.
Understand your bombs and then you can take what you already know about enemies and choose one for each situation.
Bombs that you should get:
Snarbolax bomb aka. Dark Bair Barrage, absolutely disgusting against a group of fiends or wolvers
Ash of Agni / voltic tempest, good mist bombs to have if you want to do some damage
Shivermist buster, FSC crowd control, nuff said.
Nitronome, so much knock back
Dark Retribution, spend 1800 CE and get OCH, beat T3 Seerus to get this bomb
Suit that you should get:
Volcanic demo
Chaos
everything else is useless (except if you want to use vortex bomb, then mercurial demo suit will be useful)
Tip
-CTR is vital to a bomber's survival, don't go stingy and punch your bomb with a few CTR, always handy
-Bombing is a game of patience, you need to time your bomb and plant it in the right place to get a good amount of damage
-nitronome is team unfriendly, any bombs with knock back is generally bad for a team
-bombs are extremely niche dependent, it is recommended if you go for a sword bomb hybrid for start, then go into full bomber
