A Slag Walker's swipe attack (shadow) dealt 8 damage when I was wearing a vog set.
So I got a Divine Veil because it has good shadow defense and, well, the Slag Walker's swipe still deals 8 damage.
wtf?

Using a Crown of the Fallen and Ironmight Plate Mail I only get 4 pips of damage dealt. All of it shadow too.
Gwen's answer is correct.
The swipe is pure shadow damage though...according to the wiki. I forgot to check out the bar color when I got hit.
I thought the wiki stated it was Shadow/Fire damage.
Fire symbol means there's a chance of setting you on fire. Even on Tier 3 the enemies still deal normal damage along with whatever special damage usually.

Yeah, a lot of attacks still have a normal component, especially physical attacks. The only properly pure types I'm aware of are the bullets from Gun Puppies and Kats.
Oh, I wasn't aware that's what the symbol was for.
All this time I've just been looking at the pictures in the wiki and smiling while clapping my hands.
"Even on Tier 3 the enemies still deal normal damage along with whatever special damage usually."
If that's the case then there should be a normal dmg icon as well as a shadow dmg icon, like on many other mob's attacks.
I think it's best I just completely stop reading the wiki T_T
The problem there with the wiki is that there isn't enough editors people willing to take hits in the name of science...
The wiki is helpful, but like all wikis, should be taken with a grain of salt. Unless the information came straight from the devs, there can and will be errors now and then.
Thread has been necromanced. Stop contributing to the zombie population. >:C
It may have shadow defense, but it has no normal defense. You probably got slammed with the other half of the damage instead of the shadow.
