I made it as far as the first room and that was it. I may not have the best gear for this. If you have done him solo, could you share your tips?
I thought someone had done a video of killing him solo but I can not find it now. Thanks all. It will be interesting to see what different people do
Have you done Vanaduke solo?
Though I'm considering trying solo.
I solo'd him a bit back in December, though I can't really say I'm interested in the feat anymore. I used Fallen set for those runs.
The first form is soloable, which suggests the rest might be. However, I know that this process takes a fairly long time, and isn't viable in the 3rd and 5th forms, due to the fireballs. Basically, after dealing with the skellies, , set down a Shivermist Bomb near a wall. Get him to charge you, then turn him so he freezes. At that point, he's basically yours. Place another Shivermist on one side of him, then charge another and move to the other side at set it down. When the first bomb bursts, it will break the freeze and turn him toward you. Quickly rush to the other side so that, when the second bomb bursts, he'll turn back the other way. Keep him facing the wall as best you can, and place the bombs very close to him as Shivermist has a very small damage radius.
Like I said, this process won't be viable in the 3rd and 5th stages, and I have no idea how much the flame waves in the 5th will screw you up. Theoretically though, you could use the shivermist in conjunction with very fast weapon swapping to a gun, as the radius is big enough to catch him even in the 5th stage (but not damage him). It'd be a slow and grueling process, but, I believe, manageable.
i know a bunch of people trying to make it happen. we all know its plausible already, just the matter of how much time would you trade for safety. even in the 5th stage all his moves are evadable, otherwise maybe shield off 1 or 2 hits. but that's a bit pointless even if someone manages to achieve.
personally i think the goal is to figure out the most efficient tactic combined with the player's skill to kill him in the shortest time. current record holder is what a vog + peacemaker can do, as seen in some of the famous videos. now we gotta push beyond that.
Well, I was once at a Duke and my 2 mates died, and I was at 1/2 hp so I couldn't ress them, and nobody wanted to spend 10 ce while I was still alive.
So I ended up soloing the last bit if that counts.
I've only done it once to see how it was like...
The charm of FSC is that it's great heat, money for the time spent with a decent team in addition to the good times doing the crazy dash to the corpse for the extra 30% heat. Having to solo makes it much longer and not quite as rewarding.
The same tricks that work best in a group of 4 still work best solo. Namely: trap 2 or 3 or 4 zombies in the top right corner, then hide in one of the left corners and shoot at vanaduke. Shield up every time the ceiling falls, and in the final stage whenever he shoots fire trails. Doesn't really take any longer solo than it does in a group.
Thank you so much for all your responses, I had typed up a reply before but apparently I did not hit the right button to save it :( But these are great suggestions and I do have some of the things mentioned and am close to having some of them so I know I am on the right path. I will try it again when I have my stuff at a little bit higher level. It is fun to do it in a group and I did do it once ( although I died alot) LOL Doing it solo is just a goal for me is all. It took me quite awhile to do JK solo and now he is a piece of cake!
Thanks again everyone
I've done it twice, just make sure you have an Argent Peacemaker and a Levi/CIV. The first stage should be easy, just use your charge attack w/ Levi or CIV and circle strafe him so he can't whack you with his mace. For the bullet stages just do what you always do. Throughout the fight, make sure you clear the fire patches as it can mess up your free space to move into. You might want to extinguish Duke's fire balls in the 3rd and 5th stage. When using your AK, get some clear shots at him, but make sure you're moving around so you can avoid his rush or mace attack. That's basically all I can give. D: Good luck!
