Foreword: I quit over a year ago, and a lot of this stuff happened even longer past. If I made any errors, please feel free to correct me.
--------------------------------------------
Hi. I'm Bigfoot, and I've been meaning to write this for a really long time. Some of you know me, some of you don't. Either way, great. Feel free to sit back and relax, as this might be a while.
I started playing Spiral Knights back when it was released (or beta, if you want to count one of my many alts), and quit in February 2013. At the time (2011), it was easily one of my favorite games I had ever played. The community was amazing. The game was amazing. In my eyes, there was really, no flaws at all. As a short refresher to those who were not there at this time:
This is when the game (as of release, and for a few months after, for some of the list)...
•Had no Auction House
•Had no missions
•Had corner crafting
•Didn't have pets
•Didn't have promos every two weeks
•Never had anyone in the Town Square unless they had just logged on
•Had no PvP
•Had two bosses: Royal Jelly (Jelly King) and Lord Vanaduke
•Had mist energy
•Had danger rooms
•Had the old UI
•Had no UV rolling
•Had no item unbinding
•No items were bound upon crafting (early 2011)
•Had no Shadow Lairs
•Gave Basil a use
•Had no Steam integration
•Much more that has sadly faded from my memory as of now.
In a nutshell, the game was nothing, as far as I can tell, as it is now. Back then, everyone was lined up against the Arcade and Bazaar walls. Very rarely did you find someone who was a pessimist - If someone needed help, help was given. The game was in it's pristine condition.
A month or so passed from release, and Three Rings released their first promotion - Rose Regalia. Personally, I loved it. I was on vacation at the time, so I didn't get as much as I liked, missing only the White Chapeau - That's for another time, though. Anyway, the promotion was a hit. People loved it, and well... Yeah. It went nicely. During the Summer, Three Rings released many things, such as the Auction House, Snarbolax, The Roarmulus Twins, and more. In short, Three Rings was doing a great job of delivering content to their player base. Days went on, as active players continued their daily runs using their mist energy and then chatting away with friends.
PvP came, and it was a blast (pun intended). Blast Network's players were nuts, and everyone wanted to get their hands on King Krogmo's snazzy Bombheads.
However, a short time later, a person under the forum name "Godofskype1" created a rant on the forums. Not just about the promotion (although that was a large part of it, if anyone remembers much more or the correct time frame, please correct me), but everything he didn't like about Three Rings. "OOO what are you doing to your poor game" was the thread name. Inside was a rant about everything OOO could improve on - And a fair bit of people agreed. However, with time, he got banned from the forums after that thread, and as far as I know of, all of his threads were thrown into the abyss. (Note - I don't blame Three Rings at all for doing this - He did have a bit of a temper and an attitude, as well as being a bit too honest. While I agreed with his viewpoints, he could have spoke them in a more... mannerful way.)
Come early September 2011, OOO released their second promotion - Rose Regalia Redux. This angered quite a few players, as they felt it was 'too soon' and were 'being leeched for money by Three Rings'.
Soon after, Punch and Vise were released. And Lockdown. And Shadow Lairs. And Lockboxes/Accessories.
Wow.
Let's recap, shall we? My original list above had 18 things listed. At LEAST 8 were released in 2011.
•Shadow Lairs
•UV rolling
•Unbinding
•PvP
•Steam integration
•4* and up items bound upon craft
•TWO new bosses
•An Auction House
That's pretty impressive. If anyone can find me a game that has that much content released that fast... Hook me up.
Overall, I'd have to say that 2011 was Three Rings' best year. They got a TON of stuff done, and kept a lot of players happy.

Skipping forwards a bit to 2012, the game was still holding up fairly well,
although the hype had partially died.
The next major update Three Rings had was on February 22nd, 2012 - The missions update. This made a lot of players happy, but it also made a lot of players mad - My best guess is because they were expecting a quest system rather than a mission system. Moving on, just a WEEK later, Three Rings released their first DLC/Expansion/Add-on, Operation Crimson Hammer. The next "big" thing Three Rings released was the Caketastrophe event for their anniversary. However, most of the upcoming patches after that were weapon reworks (Sun Shard bombs), enemy nerfs, and of course, promos. Needless to say, Three Rings still did come out with 'The Dark Harvest Festival', 'Winterfest', and new Guildhalls. By now, I had more or less lost interest in Spiral Knights - I was only playing for the people and for PvP.
Three Rings could've done a better job this year, but nobody's perfect. I've always had a mixed theory as to why they had(have?) so many promotions - Sega's command, and partially their own desire for money after their hit with Rose Regalia Redux.
Productivity rate: 6/10
2013. Ouch. First "wow" thing of the year was the Kataclysmic Confrontation, which, sad to say, would also be my last "wow" thing. Lockdown was getting too boring for me, and a lot of the people I had actively talked to had quit. I tried my luck at the Kat event, in hopes of getting a Book of Dark Rituals. The event lasted 14 days. I was on vacation, and spent 9-10 days time (Yeah - That's 216-240 hours) trying to find a book. Nothing. As any same human being would be, with that much dedication and having nothing else, I was pretty frustrated. So, I bid my farewells to Aequitas, went back to my own guild, and quit. Simple as that. I'd make in depth notes about things after the event that Three Rings released, but I wasn't there to experience them. So, I'll just say what I know.
Promos. After. Promos. The Supply Depot but Volcanic, Divine, and Prismatic accessories up for 80-90% of the market price. That's a pretty big money grab. (And that's pretty much all I know, asides from pets being added.)
Productivity rate: Can't say.
So, Three Rings, if any of you guys are reading this - Don't get me wrong, I mean no hate against any of you guys, in any way whatsoever. I loved the game, and as spiteful as the thread may sound, still do. I would do so much to have a single day back in 2011, pristine condition Spiral Knights. Whether it be the nostalgia, the content, or anything else - I would love to have a single day back.
I also understand that you guys at Three Rings are a game development company - And I'm sure that's insanely tough. If it's a Free to Play game, the only way you really can make money is off if promotions and DLCs. My only two cents is to have a bit of variety (that may have changed since 2012-2013).
To the players, and the community:
Back then, as I probably stated somewhere above - The community was easily one of the best I had ever seen. Now... Quite the opposite. I look on here occasionally, and sadly, all I really see is hate against Three Rings. My thoughts? The same thing I go by about presidency. Unless you can do a better job, don't complain. While it may not seem like it, being a Game Developer is a ridiculously difficult job (although it's one I'd love to have). Yes, the promos might be annoying, but nobody's forcing you to buy them. Yes, there may have not been any new content for a few months, but Game Devs face issues and roadbumps too. Losing a lead developer doesn't help much either.
In short - Just cut Three Rings some slack.
I'll finish it all with this:
Three Rings, thank you for the game I had played from 2010-2013. I liked it. A lot. And clearly, lots of others do too, so you must be doing something right. Plus, I still love the music, so keep that up.
The players - For giving me a fun time in that time frame.
Specifically:
Chris and Magnus - Fighting and bringing entertainment to all.
Captdelicious - The guy who helped me get to T3 waaaaay back.
Saskae - The guy who bought me a set of armor - I still owe you 5k if you ever get back on.
Freezingflame - The guy who helped me early on, and actively chatted with me for a pretty long while.
Exileddread - The guy who taught me everything I knew in Lockdown. Thanks for that. "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."
Helmnut - The guy who was the first person to join the guild I made, and stuck all the way to the end.
Lostillusion - The guy who helped lead Knights and Day. Great friend of mine now. Words can't really explain everything he did to help out.
Anyone and everyone else - Thanks.
Bigfoot, not really signing out because I still have stuff to sell.

In case any of you are interested in my, personal Spiral Knights story...
Hi. I'm Bigfoot, and I've been meaning to write this for a really long time. Some of you know me, some of you don't. Either way, great. Feel free to sit back and relax, as this might be a while.
I started playing the game back in 2011 at release, or beta, if you count one of my many alts. I founded my own guild, Knights and Day, pretty early on. This ended up becoming a very successful guild.
Despite being in the beta, I was still kinda scrubby. Couldn't really do much solo, let alone grind. Oddly enough, I didn't type with proper grammar/punctuation at the time (nor do I now, but at least it's better). Just a random fact. Anyway - I got my first little bit of gear from a very friendly and polite knight under the name of Saskae. He loaned me 5k, I bought some stuff... And I've never seen him since. I ended up finding two new "mentors", if you will - Captdelicious and Freezingflame. These two helped me a long way, and honestly, probably kept me playing Spiral Knights.
Come Blast Network, I had reached endgame, really. I had beat Vanaduke countless times, and was now only trying to improve my gear. This all changed with Blast Network, of course. Us at Knights and Day typically played GvG, but normally not competitively - We were more of the Clockworks type.
Time passed, and out came Lockdown. I was now sitting on the "high class" of the Spiral Knights economy scale, having crafted some pretty snazzy stuff, starting and continuing my Spiral Knights journey. I was pretty bad at Lockdown to start - Drop dead horrible, really. (Although I did have tea every now and then. [Photo courtesy to Canozo/Canhead.]) Eventually, Exileddread showed me the ropes and taught me everything I had learned. After a while, he quit, but I kept on playing. Over time, I ended up becoming fairly good, I'd say, creating a few records (one of which still stands, I think - 30.9k damage as a pure gunner: Umbra/Storm/Valiance/Peacemaker).
Adding onto my competitive career, I still continued the art of being a merchant. I rolled, sold, rinsed and repeated until the day I quit, really. Still have some stuff if anyone's interested - Click me! . Probably pretty outdated, though.
From there, it was pretty much te same thing there on out. PvP, sell stuff, make profit, PvP, and so forth. Until the Kat event came, that is, but as it was stated above, that did not end in my favor.
If you read all the way to here, and read the entire thing - May I ask why? I mean, thanks, but why? Do you have a lot of time or something?
Anyways, I'll end it with my signature, since I can't do that in this half wall of text for it to make much sense.
What Dark Ritual?
Aww but you forgot: The GREAT UI update.
and the GREAT fire crystal update.
and the GREAT spark update!
And the GREAT orbs of alchemy update!
And then the spark lower drop rates, wasn't that GREAT?
And then we got our rads? Isn't that GREAT?
And...more promos >.<
