Spiral Knights Mythbusters
-When there's myths, there's answers -
---------------------------------
Hi there, Mengh here :3 I'm setting up the Spiral Knights Mythbusters to help answers out there, what the core might be hiding or what's out in the heavens beyond. Down below are a couple of myths (some others suggested) I'm introducing to the list but you may suggest me some down below in the comments :)
[I'll only move a myth to the CONFIRMED MYTHS section if there is enough information + a source to provide the evidence needed]

DISCLAIMER: YOU MAY WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE MYTHBUSTING BUT DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING BUT THE FEELING OF ACCOMPLISHMENT.
-------------------------------------
{Clockwork-based}

-{Bopp}- Does letting lichens fuse increase the overall payout? (Currently under research by Skepticraven and others.)

-{Bopp}- Does party size affect loot? (Lancer Knightz answer no, for crowns at least.)

-{Bopp}- Does difficulty affect the drop rate of Books of Dark Rituals? (Doubtful, but I have seen no reliable data. Such data would be hard to obtain.)

- Does MSI/MSD affect the length of a character dash? (Whether running then dashing or standing still)

-{Drachronos}- Does the global damage increase from chaos/BKC affect shield bash damage? If so, does any other damage boost work?

-{Blazzberry} Just how strong is the freeze from a T3 ko'd ice cubes vapor?

{Mission-based}

- On average, does the Gauntlet take longer to complete than the King of Ashes mission?

{Lockdown-based}

- What happens if you stand directly next to someone who starts shooting polaris?
[I did try this before and it seems like nothing happens however this may be due to lag?]

- Is it possible to move a Guardian with a Warmaster Rocket Hammer charge?

{Knowledge-based}

- The origins of the Almighty-Contri. How did it happen?

-{Rothni-Halias}- At what connection delay will your sprite refuse to follow orders but still let your knight perform the finger point? I suggest testing this by losing connection to the internet and trying to use your sprite. I should also say that "SEA" players have this problem.

-{Sandwich-Potato}- What happens if you change your name with a Name Change Pass in a clockwork run? Will you lose your vitas, pills, party leader ranking?

I can answer a few off the top of my head

Vanaduke can be killed with shadow weapons if they are split shadow weapons(I.E., nightblade line, gran faust) as his final stage is immune to shadow damage. It would also be plausible that if a shadow weapon were to inflict freeze or shock, you could kill vanaduke with those status effects.

Gorgos are directly related to Devilites. Devilites who are bad workers are slowly morphed into Gorgos as punishment. Take a look backwards in the release notes until you find when Gorgos were added.

Gauntlet runs are best done by speedrunning the first two stages as it's rather viable to do so, imo.

Theirillusion has beaten Vana with Shadow weapons only. He did it faster than Zeddy could do it with Shard Bombs. That should tell you something about balance.

@bopp, concerning difficulty vs drop rate

I'm very sure difficulty does not affect the drop rate of the Book of Dark Rituals.
Over the past two events, I have gotten three books while only playing on the normal difficulty setting. Difficulty affects the amount of crowns and heat that are dropped, but not the materials. With that, playing on normal has the same chance of dropping a book as playing on hard.

A) When you use quotes it makes them sound like you're calling them objects D: I love my SEA buddehs (Zaffy-Hellscreams o3o). Anyways, it's all a matter of PING. I think it'd be pretty hard to test for the exact connection delay, but it's generally really, really, really low connections. Even living in the US, I get that delay sometimes when my connection hits 1 bar.

B) It's a secret. (Just kidding place a lovely "0" into your subject line and you're good to go)^^

Here's some theoretical stuff:

- Is it possible to be immune to all haze bombs at once?
[Poison, Fire, Shock, Stun, Freeze]

In theory, yes. This would take quite a few UVs though.
In lockdown, you need a boost of +7 to be immune to a minor status, which haze bombs inflict. If players were to choose an armor set that has multiple resistances, it should work. The first sets to come to mind are Grey Owlite/Divine set (Fire and shock immunity), Dread Skelly set (Poison and freeze immunity), Volcanic plate mail set (Fire and stun immunity), armor of the fallen (poison and fire immunity), and the dragon scale set (poison and fire immunity). With two of the five out of the way, all you need is a +7 for the other kinds of armors on each head/body piece.

If you roll a high and a max, you're immune. Players who still want offensive bonuses should probably use the armor of the fallen because of the universal ASI of med, else choose what damage type they wish to resist.

This is all theoretical, and would most likely take a great sum of luck and cash.

I believe that you can move a guardian with hammer (As long as they don't have their shield up, as the OP didn't state the shield had to be on.)

I'd like to add on that you can easily reach immunity to all 5 mist bombs more easily by playing as guardian which requires only 5 points (max + low or med + high) to be immune to minor status (which is what status bombs do)

Although using that same set mentioned above as a guardian lets you be immune to all of those status up to moderate strength (no more polaris shock, no more hail driver freeze, immune to magma driver fire, etc etc). You monster, if you ever do it. (Although I wonder how many people are rich enough to try)

I'm curious about whether you can inflict status to something which is immune to damage- A prime example would be trying to poison Vanaduke with Biohazard on his 5th phase where he's immune to pure shadow damage.

If it's true for the above, then assuming you have ridiculous patience and time to try, you could probably attempt to kill vanaduke using pure shadow weapons by getting a pure shadow weapon that inflicts freeze then killing vanaduke from thaw damage alone. It'd take 5 hours, probably, but such an accomplishment put onto youtube or something would be... amazing.

This may also eventually break the previous myth of trying to kill vanaduke with pure shadow weapons, assuming you allow statuses to do their work.

It only takes +7 to become immune to mist bombs?
I thought it was 8.5, but then I didn't know that guardians had extra status resistance or something.

Myth: does the global damage increase from chaos/BKC affect shield bash damage?
If so, does any other damage boost work?

I already know that damage pickups do, and was wondering if the global damage boost from armours counted the same way.
What si the raw damage of shield bashes (best results would come from various shields) against deathmarked targets/lost souls?

Completely irrelevant to most things but I really want to see shield bashing buffed to that it becomes a viable combat ability rather than something gimmicky that'll just get you hurt, in which case the numbers might actually be useful.

Yes. You can simply join a knight that is in any of those mission (by invite or join to friend), but you don't get any rewards from completing them. So, you cannot get elite badge from them even if you join in the lobby of the mission.

Note that knight that has not reached haven can replay any of the mission in the camp as many times as you want. So, you can just create a new knight that you can join to as many times as you want.

I have no mouth and I need to scream

Often times when I'm off in aracde runs, I stumble across T3 Ice cubes from the jelly family. Most of the time I thought enemies that spawn within a themed level often have immunity to it. But sometimes when I KO a Ice cube, the vapor itself can freeze other already frozen ice cubes around it. So here's my questions.

Just how strong is the freeze from a T3 ko'd ice cubes vapor? And are enemies really resistant to level themed status they spawn in?

Small edit: http://puu.sh/8NQ12.jpg Screenshot provided.

Status monsters have ton of resist against their own status which is enough to make them immune to anything the player can dish out. The ice cube freeze has friendly fire enabled so it can refreeze melted ice cubes, but apparently some T3 elite cubes have a freeze strong enough to freeze other freeze monsters. This probably wasn't intended.

By the way, some trivia about the Vanaduke shadow immunity: I'm not sure if he has always been immune to Shadow. As far as I know, the community was not aware of the shadow immunity until I made this thread and edited the wiki to reflect the discovery.

Before this was discovered it was believed Vanaduke was neutral to shadow for the entire fight and this belief had to have come from someone testing shadow against him at an earlier time. However, it is also very possible that it has always been this way but was simply overlooked due to people only testing shadow damage on the first and second phases.

Poisened monsters take dmg if they are trying to heal/being healed. Do sleeping poisened monsters take dmg from the sleep's regen?

If players combine every single weapon boosting thing (sol-boost, dmg-boost drop, mask's cloak boost, sera disint ray + poison vial), what would the most dmg nubmer avaliable to players be? I know that the swing of the da/gf's charge can easily go above 1k with some boosts, so could it reach like, idk, 1500?

On my old laptop I have a screenshot of a fang of vog charge dealing 1500+ damage per hit, using a recon ranger's death mark+max sword damage+maskeraith cloak, unfortunately the poison wore off before the person who had the recon ranger called it, so it was not the highest possible damage number for fov's charge. the charge was done on darkfire vanaduke, dealing 4x1550 and 4x1150 (the second charge that gets released with masks cloak), in total nearly 10000 damage from one charge. I may try it again someday to get the poison in too... and divine avengers first charge swing probably does even more than that if you just want the biggest possible single number, fang of vog is just cool when you see 8 numbers all well above 1000 overlap each other.

tl;dr yes it can definitely go over 1500

@Neometal From my personal experience, I have actually found rock jellies in the top left room on the second floor where you'll need to take out some rock blocks. The chance of a rock jelly spawning is quite low and because there are only a few stone blocks in any of the RJP levels, this chance is quite low still.

-{Drachronos}- Does the global damage increase from chaos/BKC affect shield bash damage? If so, does any other damage boost work?

To answer all his questions:

No, Damage Bonuses do not affect Shield Bash damage. I'm currently gathering their damage values via depth and there are a few notes:

*Only Damage Boosters such as Ability Boosters, Deadly Shadow Cloak, and Frenzied Firestorm affect the Shield Bash damage. Thus overall damage bonuses do not.
*Heat does not affect damage like weapons do.

Raw Damage values are pretty much the same as Weapons thus is really shouldn't be looked into.

for maximum damage: there were some calculations made by Zeddy a while ago. let's see.
1000 is maximum damage possible with a weapon, namely with the charge attack of GF/acheron.
+20% of orb
+20% of deadly shadow cloak/ frenzied firestorm, I don't think they actually stack.
+ something% of spark
this should do, I guess. the damage must be done on lost souls/ howlizer heads/ deathmacked enemies because 0 defense.

If I get a chance, I will prove (or disprove):

- Does MSI/MSD affect the length of a character dash? (Whether running then dashing or standing still) -with BKC then, a 3star torto sheild (Which has MSD) Although do they go the same length? Do all sheilds go the same length? (one is 3star, one is 5star)

-{Drachronos}- Does the global damage increase from chaos/BKC affect shield bash damage? If so, does any other damage boost work?
(Ill check with BKC)

- On average, does the Gauntlet take longer to complete than the King of Ashes mission? Answer-> Well my personal experience (so not an average), but no, I would say that the 3 depths of the Gauntlet are shorter than the 5 depths of the Firestorm Citadel.

I question I have is: Does the "star" of a sheild affect it's sheild dash distance?

The answers:
Msi-low makes you jump over 4 tiles (if you start on tile 1, you end on tile 6) not moving.
Msd-low makes you jump over 4 tiles (if you start on tile 1, you end on tile 6) not moving.
No Msi/Msd makes you jump over 4 tiles, (if you start on tile 1, you end on tile 6) not moving.

I assume if you were moving, the results would be the same but: moving does not affect the distance. (no Msi-jumps over 4 tiles, same results)

The first myth is wrong, Msi/Msd does not affect the character dash, as it will always jump over 4 tiles.

Myth 2: No it does not. I used an owlite sheild, and when I had it on, it did 16 damage to the lil guys in the training hall, where my bkc was on, or my snarby cap was on. I did this again with a BTS, and it was 21 both with the BKC, and Snarby cap. So this myth is also wrong.

Myth 3... I can't really answer this... Anyone do average time tables?

Last: (my own question) no, the star of a sheild does not affect sheild bash distance. All sheilds skip over 5 tiles (start at tile 1, you get to tile 7)
Tested with a 5, 4, 3, 2, and 0star sheild. The 0star being proto.

That is all for now.

I have something for you guys. Well, its less of a myth, more than an urban legend that I haven't been able to confirm.. yet

A scenario room in the clockworks notable for its lack of furnishings or NPCs. Just bare crumbling brick walls and a grassy floor occupy this space. Upon examining a specific wall though, one would notice that it can be interacted with. After pressing the use button, the wall will inform the player that it is an NPC named O and he was made to guard the truth, along with his two brothers. He then gives the player a quest to find his missing siblings and talk to them to receive 'The Book of Silence', which will uncover the truth behind the enigma that is Cradle.

This 'Book of Silence' sounds like a bit like the one about dark rituals. There might even be a boss fight involving a colossal blue kat that shoots jelly cubes or something.

This 'O' must exist, we're just not looking in the right places. I don't know about you guys, but I'll be tapping every wall I find next time I log in.

I have never seen such a room.
