Then and now.

It seems like it has been forever now, and most of those good old memories are fading away. The game's changed a lot since now and then. I'm talking about the early versions of spiral knights.... I'd still gladly pick up the 09 copy of this game and play it over the current version, but sadly that seems it will never be possible, and the closest thing i'll get is opening up my SK files to see my Jaws of megaladon, and my Deep Sea cuirass or to browse the desolated SGA forums. I miss the golden trojans and the actually challenging puzzles. The epic boss levels before the treasure vaults cannot be compared to the ones now existing. the way the weapons worked were, the way bombs worked - so much fun. I liked how there was the possibility of getting a rare drop, and the pre-made gates that one could play over and over again. the in dungeon vendors who always had something nice for you unlike basil the troll. It was awesome how you had a decent chance of getting gear - not mats - in a box, and the feeling i had every time i got that brandish or the time i finally got a shell shield. I liked how there was no competition, or 'the first to get this means they are the best'. It was just fun gameplay - no grinding, how it says this game should be in the trailer. the lack of content meant i could play it without worrying i'm missing something, sure that preview lasted for what? a week? but in that week i had more fun then i have had during the majority of final release. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I WANT MY TORTODRONES BACK!!!
Three Rings, if you can make it happen - even if it was for just a week sometime - could you release the 09 preview for play? it's a lot to ask for, and i kinda doubt you still have that version... but i miss it a ton.... D=
and it would be insanely epic, for everyone playing today to know what it was like...
Yah, that does seem fun, and not driven into the ground UNLIKE NOW.

I remember when the Silversix was actually worth getting.
And didn't look like a hood ornament stolen from Pimp My Ride.
Good times, good times.

0.o and the blue key gamble system =D
how did i forget.... so many wasted crowns.
Sounds like some good memories. It's great to reminisce; we all have fond memories of games that have changed. But please, you don't actually want that version back, you just want to relive your memories. You fondly remember the "lack of content?" Do you really think there was no grinding? If weapons dropped randomly (dunno if there was crafting), then people would grind for random drops (it certainly happens in other games). "Pre-made gates that one could play over and over again" sounds terrible. I can see what one might admire, but how many dungeon-esque MMOs already exist where the dungeons are pre-made and become the most repetitive drivel? People here already whine about Jelly Palace for being too predictable and repetitive.
I'm sorry to bring you back to the present; I know what it's like to think back to what you loved, but it's over. Reminds me of TF2 players crying about how old TF2 was so much better than it is currently. TF2 would be dead by now if Valve didn't keep it updated. While I can't apologize for OOO's decisions, they have done what any dev has to for their game. The current game won't take away your good memories, but don't act like bringing back that old version would be a benefit to the community.
OOO needs to hurry and add in the good stuff that they took out for whatever reason (balance, difficulty, staggering releases). Tortodrones, more bosses, and perhaps a slight increase in random drops. It happens now, but not as often as it appears it used to.
GodofSkype, get off your soapbox for one second. He's talking about a much older version of the game, not the one from a month ago that you so enjoyed and constantly mention in your various threads. He's also crapping on that version that you thought was great just a month ago. Was it driven into the ground then too? You didn't say anything then.
It's possible some of the things you've mentioned could one day make it to full release, at least.
The thing about ''previews'' is that there's often content shown that might not make it to full release, and there's often content that isn't released -initially-, but released at a later time in full release, usually when it's worked on a bit so that it might work in a more balanced way, or just makes more sense.
The game you played then didn't have anything written in stone, and the game that's up now is the same. Anything could be worked on, developed, etc. We don't know exactly what they could be messing with in the office unless they tell us specifically themselves.

"People here already whine about Jelly Palace for being too predictable and repetitive."
it's still about the second most entertaining experience SK has to offer currently to me. At least it's not as repetitive or starved for action as 80% of the other areas. (and there are no puzzles in this game (unless I know em all so well I don't notice em anymore?))
Sorry, any post by GoS brings out the rage in me. On an unrelated note, is there a way to block posts from specific users?
I remember a time before every other thread made up "facts" and everyone believed they were a better developer than actual game developers. Good times.
Nope, no way to block posts because Drupal sucks. I'm not making up facts. In fact I've made up nothing. If you go and read the entire forum of GD you will understand.
Sorry, any post by *insertname* brings out the lol in me.

I'm not making up facts.
Yeah guys, he's not making up facts.
He's just flat out lying.
There's a difference.
I'm not lying, you are just too blinded to see it but hey that's my opinion right.

what are you on about gell. The gameplay was far better back then than now. and it wasnt grinding, as you could buy any weapon from a vendor apart from kat helms which weren't necessary just cool to own.
and loki, this game has been officially released..... as of the 14th of april. and if the content from then was brought to now.... it would probably ruin it. 09 an 11 sk are pretty much completely different games.
oh and yes, i need that function to block GoS from my posts....sorry you are just annoying. <-- eh saying thats gonna make him respond now right? [facepalm*]
eh im not replying to this no more... all i had to say was in the OP, that is all. <-- that'll make everyone rage and say how im deterring viewers right? and how evil i am? lol...sorry for that then.

you are just too blinded to see it
Yes Father Skype.
I can see the light of Jesus now.
I know the way to Heaven and it is not listening to your lies.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I WANT MY TORTODRONES BACK!!!
I really miss the Tortodrone. I have fond memories of getting my face pounded into the ground the first time I met one.
When did I become a priest lol, I don't even believe in religion.
I also said it was my opinion.
I do not know of this Tortrodrone.
@Fallout I don't know how I'm being annoying, I'm only giving my opinion.
If you truly believe that if anything from the old Spiral, added to what it is now, would be ruined then why not quit the game? Just leave if you're obviously not enjoying yourself nearly as much as you used to. Your ''precious'' Spiral is gone and won't come back because this is an MMO.
MMOs never just revert back to beta, ever, unless 100% absolutely necessary due to major, crippling issues that might be in full release, but this is usually only until it's fixed. You said it yourself, ''It's a lot to ask for''. It's a ridiculous amount to ask for actually, and terribly unrealistic. Nobody goes, ''Hey, let's re-release our Beta again, you know, for old time's sake.''
Betas are just testing phases, and normally not even meant to ever be played by just anyone who wants to. Heck, for Spiral they didn't even want people so much as showing pictures. If you really want to stick to the word ''preview'': Spiral's preview phase was a preview of a game that was a work in progress. Nothing in it was guaranteed to make it to full release.
Also, about ''this game has been officially released'': Where did I say otherwise? Read my post again, and again, until you can comprehend it.
There's games I've played for around five years now, and have seen many changes made to, and sure, I think fondly on the old times, but realistically they'll never come back and you have to get over it. Either wait it out until maybe the game becomes more enjoyable, just flat out leave, or continue and be miserable. Make a decision.

Well they did revert to perceived alpha status with the last update. Just my 2 cents.
@GoS
You're annoying because you constantly attempt to derail threads by inciting hate and declaring that SK is dying/doomed. Grow up.
Personally I'm sticking around because of all of the content they had during the alpha/beta stages, and I think that eventually, they'll add it back in. I think my patience will pay off.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I WANT MY TORTODRONES BACK!!!
I think we made them extinct D: too many stone tortoises!
Come back Silent Metropolis!
I also loved eating vitapods until you were full.

Online games are always changing. That's the good/bad thing about them. And there will always be people for whom the latest change is a 'dealbreaker' that damages their fun. There is nothing new about that, SK is not special in that regard.
Also, in every game, it seems there are jaded 'old folks' on the forum who gripe every opportunity that appears about how much they think the game 'sucks now'. SK is not special in that regard, either.
I found, personally, once a game changes in a way where I can no longer say more good things than bad, that it's time for me to go play something else. I learned this about WoW years ago -- being a crabby geezer going on about the 'good old days' is just a waste of time that I could be using to play another game that was still fun to me.
I think some people here need to move on with their lives, seriously. Nothing will change in the game based on folks constantly complaining on the forums -- it will only be changed if the ingame metrics and data reflects a problem (either in player numbers or profit or some other inbalance) that 3R wants to fix. Period. It ridiculous how some people think 3R doesn't already know the negative feelings many players have about various things (they read these forums too, even though they don't reply to every single comment), so still harping on it all at this point is just useless.

Ah, the time where people didn't complain about every little thing.
Oh wait...
Those seemed so fun :/
