The Dragon Princess had been deeply troubled by the secret that the Stranger Quince had revealed to her. Apparently there was a lot more magic in this world than the knights were aware of. A lot of their so-called technology was in fact based upon magical sources within the planet.

In addition to the magical power latent within the world, there were magical beings within the Core. In fact, the “monsters” in the Unknown Passage were not truly monsters as knights knew them. Rather they were merely the magical creatures manifesting themselves in shadowy versions of monsters.

The secret Quince had revealed to the Dragon Princess hinted at a plot by these magical creatures locked within the Core, a plan that would allow them to manifest as knights, or, in a worst case scenario, actually take possession of knight’s bodies!

The Dragon Princess shuddered at the thought of her body being used as a host for some kind of alien magical demon.

Although dragons were to some extent magical creatures themselves, magic was not something the Dragon Princess had a lot of knowledge of. Her enchanted Lionheart blade was her only magical weapon. Or was it? She began to wonder just how much of their gear and trinkets may in fact be magical.

She decided to contact the Arcane Enchantress at whose side she had fought in a mission to the Core to rescue the Alpha Squad.

She composed and sent this message:

Dear Arcane Enchantress,
I hope you are well and prospering. I was very impressed by your knowledge, skill and valor on our mission to the Core. I would greatly appreciate your counsel in regards to magical powers at work on and within our world. Please come see me at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely Yours,
Mawashimono

The Enchantress arrived the next evening at the lair of the Dragon Princess in Lionheart guild hall.

“Mawashimono!” exclaimed the Enchantress. “It’s so good to see you again.” The Enchantress gave Mawashimono a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. “Oh my, sweetheart, where ever did you misplace your tail?”

“It’s a long story. I’ll tell you another time,” smiled the Dragon Princess grimly. “It’s good to see you again, too.”

“Let’s see that famous enchanted blade of yours,” said the Enchantress.

The Dragon Princess smiled shyly and unsheathed her sword. It shone with a pulsating golden light.

The Enchantress gazed at it with her eyes half-closed, enraptured by its power and beauty. “Glorious,” she said. “Gets me hot just looking at it…”

“Yes, well,” the Dragon Princess cleared her throat. “I’ve, um, come into some information concerning some of the magical elements on our world.”

“Oh?” asked the Enchantress with one eyebrow raised. “Do tell.”

“It seems there are magical creatures, demons if you will, who reside in the Core but seek to take over the surface of this planet as well,” explained the Dragon Princess. “I was wondering if you knew anything about these creatures.”

“Ah,” said the Enchantress. “Yes, I noticed these demons while on our mission into the Core. They did not interfere with us and I did not have time to investigate them further neither at that time nor since then.”

“Well, they may be planning harm against us. We need to take steps to defend ourselves against an attack,” said the Dragon Princess.

“Actually, I’ve been working on developing a trinket that would absorb and nullify magical attacks, as well as one that directs a magical attack back on the attacker,” said the Enchantress.

“Wonderful,” said the Dragon Princess. “Please continue to do so as quickly as possible. In the meantime, I’ll see what else I can find out about the demons in the Core.”

************************************************************************************

The Dragon Princess decided it was time to re-assemble the Special Investigators. They would need to investigate the magical elements of the game, particularly the Unknown Passage and the Swarm as well as the defensive capabilities of the magic line of gear. How these might tie in with the curse elements of the game might also be worth a closer look. She was probably missing some areas, which is why she needed a team even more.

But who would have the courage, knowledge, and skills to join the Special Investigators?

The Dragon Princess & Penumbra

The Dragon Princess knew if this mission had any hope of succeeding she would need to form a team of legendary Special Investigators, and no one fit this description better than Penumbra Greyionne, the former head knightess of Nowensgrad.

Penumbra wielded a sword similar to that of the Dragon Princess, a long yet thin leviathan blade (designed for female combatant) with her name and her former title 'knightess of Nowensgrad' carved on the frame of the sword. The sword was old but it was kept in good shape by Penumbra, a relic that packed with nostalgia. If Mawashimono recalled rightly, Penumbra also has a charred photo of her lost son in her possession, an item that relieves her of her dying heart (she suffered numerous stroke) and gives her the courage to live on.

The Dragon Princess many years ago back on their home world. She recalled seeing her in dueling demonstration with her modified sword flashing around, patiently and vibrantly, her defenses impenetrable until her opponent left any small opening which Penumbra would seize to take control of the fight.

The Dragon Princess went to her abode. She saw her practicing in her yard and decided to test Penumbra’s swordsmanship. She hid behind a bush and observed her.

Penumbra was now in her 60s. Her long grey hair covered her pale wrinkled face. She had survived both the first and second Isoran civil wars as well as the Morai war. Consequently, her body was stained by war both physically and mentally. The Dragon Princess has heard that a scar could still be seen on her belly and that she could no longer bare children, a scar left by someone she knew, someone she loved.

The Dragon Princess watched the armored Penumbra in her standard Azure Guardian set with a grey colored cape instead of the usual red, the light blue platings are tarnished by the forgotten battles. Her Aegis shield had a large chunk of the body missing due to old engagements. Strangely, the damage actually lightened up the shield and made it easier for the old knightess.

The Dragon Princess was having doubts. She knew Penumbra prefered solo missions, but despite being an old lady, Penumbra was still unmatched with her modified leviathan blade. The Dragon Princess watched as the blade flew around her as if she was still a vibrant, younger lady that the Dragon Princess had observed so many years ago.

The Dragon Princess charged out from behind the bush while unsheathing her Lionheart Honor Blade. Penumbra responded without missing a beat. Their swords rang out again and again as they clashed. The Dragon Princess was impressed with Penumbra’s speed and strength. She was clearly staying in good shape. The Dragon Princess could find no way to get past Penumbra’s defenses, just as she expected. She lept back and broke off the fight.

“Greetings, Knightess,” said the Dragon Princess using her old title.

“Greeings, Princess. You honor me with that title and your visit,” replied Penumbra.

“Nay. The honor is mine. I see you’ve lost none of your sword skills,” chuckled the Dragon Princess.

“Oh, a few aren’t quite what they used to be, I suppose,” said Penumbra with a grim smile. “What brings you to my humble abode, Princess?”

“I am in need of someone with your unique wisdom and skills set,” explained the Dragon Princess. “A magical threat has been revealed, one that comes from the very core of the planet and the Swarm which hales from within it. Their tainted magical influence has most likely spread into every region we inhabit and much of the gear we make use of.”

“Hmmm, yes,” said Penumbra thoughtfully, “I wondered when we’d have to deal with this.”

“So you knew something of this threat already?” asked the Dragon Princess.

“Indeed. Youngsters such as yourself may not be aware of the forgotten land of Necropolis. There is a man, if you could call him that, who oversaw the creation of the Cradle, and would perhaps know the weakness of the Swarm, if there be any.”

The Dragon Princess gasped at this revelation. Penumbra’s shoulders sagged briefly as if weighted down by years of strong emotion. Then she raised her head high and declared, “I shall journey there to seek out this man and what aid he may be able to give us.”

“He sounds extremely powerful,” said the Dragon Princess. “What if he refuses to cooperate?”

Penumbra’s eyes narrowed and seemed to glow with a power from within. The Dragon Princess involuntarily leaned back.

“Leave that to me,” growled Penumbra.

“Still, it might be wise to take a team of some kind with you,” offered the Dragon Princess.

Penumbra gazed up into the sky thoughtfully. “A team would only get in my way, but there is a young man with potential whom I might take along.”

“Very well, then, Penumbra. Welcome to the Special Investigators. Send me reports when you can, and good luck on your mission,” said the Dragon Princess.

Mawashimono & Chris

The Dragon Princess felt this team of Special Investigators would need the insights of a very special scholar.

Chris Aether’s appearance was as unimpressive as his combat skills, but his mind was one of the sharpest. His discovery of the Owlite High Academy. where he found his Kat eye cowl and learned about how the Owlite's perished was a well-known feat. He knew more about birdlike users of magic than anyone else.

The Dragon Princess sent him this mail:

Dear Chris,
A magical threat of lieterally earth-shattering proportions has come to light. Consequently, I am putting together a team of Special Investigators into the magical elements of our world, which may have fallen under baleful influence.
I would like you to put your specialized knowledge to use and research the magical armor sets. Use your superior mental powers to figure out what connections may exist between the Swarm and gear such as the Divine set, which is one of the few sets resistant to curse.
Sincerely Yours,
Mawashimono, the Dragon Princess.

Penumbra + Avelan = Old snake + Otacon ?

[Without any further delay, Penumbra heads for the academy of geological research at the heart of Haven. It is late in the afternoon and the scholars just finished their daily lecture from Wegner. Penumbra spots one of the seniors, Avelan Renkens, a geo knight who is only a week before his graduation test.]

Avelan: *panics, flipping through his notes* "Oh man, this is so not good!!! I still needed those samples for my final exam!!!"

Penumbra: "...What ills you Avelan? Stucked again on your research?"

[Avelan instanly recognizes the voice, it was the old knightess. Penumbra might have been a soldier, but wegner often invite her to history lectures where she recalls the details of the first and second Isoran civil war. Avelan is one of those boys who is fascinated with history and geography, Penumbra wouldn't find a better man for this job, Necropolis is big, and this mystery man won't be easy to find, someone who can analyse his surroundings quickly would definately come in handy. And not to mention the fact that Avelan is an expert in Almirian text.]

Avelan: "Oh, miss Penumbra, the acadamy is closed for the night, the history lecture is in next week."

Penumbra: *chuckles* "I know, I am only here to see if you are intrested in a field trip..."

Avelan: "Field trip? Where are we going Miss Penumbra? And please don't go to those abandoned compounds again, those dust bunny bites are so painful."

Penumbra: "Ever heard of Necropolis, I heard that you still needed some 'samples' for your final exam."

Avelan: *flusters* "Oh, so you heard me back there... yeah, I still needed some Almirian artifacts to pass my almirian history paper."

Penumbra: *raises her eye brow* "Is that so? How about we go down there and actually find what you need? I am sure Wegner's jaw would reach the ground if we could find a fully intact Almire shield."

Avelan: *checks his watch* "Ugh, okay, I guess my parents won't mind as long as I am companied by someone as experienced as you are, old knightess." *chuckles* "Hold on, just let me get some research equipments, hold on for one moment!!!" *runs back into his personal locker back inside the acadamy*

[After a wave of wierd noises, Avelan reappeared outside the acadamy door. Armed with everything needed for a geographer: binocular, scanner and all sorts of strange tools. They dangled on Avelan's nimble body like the candles of a chandelier, "Ugh... this boy is really not the soldier type..." thought Penumbra, "maybe blindly digging holes in necropolis is better off than trying to protect him...". Without critisizing Avelan's outfit, the knightess headed the arcade. But before the necropolis, Penumbra stopped briefly at a depth 13 grave yard to pay tribute to her deceased husband, Nowen Greyionne. Penumbra, now a widow, presented to her deceased husband a white flower, the same flower she left here every weekend. While resting her old legs, Penumbra recalled the face of her estranged, wayward son, he was responsible for the destruction of the city she once oath to protect, she can still feel the pain on her belly, the pain of giving birth to that boy and ultimately receive the end of his blade years later. Avelan, without Penumbra's permission, rudely started to gather sample from the graves nearby.]

Penumbra: *annoyed by the Avelan's 'tomb raiding'* “What are you doing… this grave belongs to the fallen knights...”

Avelan: *smirks* “Ohh… madam, I just need some of this soil for my end of the year geo test. Just a tiny bit!”

Penumbra: *sighs* “These soils belong to those who dwell here, haven’t your mother told you not to take what isn’t belonged to you?”

Avelan: “But old knightess, these people are dead, what are these grave soils to them? They don’t need them anymore…”

Penumbra: *becomes agitated* “How do you know they won’t come back?!”

Avelan: *backs away from the old lady* “Ugh, ma’m, I am a man of science, when a person’s brain dies, the rest of the body will soon follow. There is no way that these bodies are coming…” *feels a tremor on the ground* “…what was that?!”

Penumbra: *lightens up her tone* “Avelan… do you believe in magic?”

Avelan: *shrugs* “Magic… ugh, no…”

Penumbra: *chuckles* “You will be soon enough…”

[The tremor revealed itself out of the ground, it was a horde of dust zombies. Penumbra chopped off the head of the first one that managed to emerge from the ground and quickly dispatched the rest with a few effortless swings. Avelan fearfully retreated him self to the corner of the grave yard, without any warning, a dust zombie ambushes him from behind. Luckily, Penumbra tossed her thin leviathan blade into the zombie's head at the last moment before Avelan could be harmed.]

Avelan: *recovers from the shock* “Woah, what in the sweet skylark was THAT? Zombies?! I thought those bastards only belong to a cheap horror comic book!”

Penumbra: *shakes her head* “… This is not Isora anymore, this cradle, this planet is more beautiful than I ever dreamed, and more dangerous than I ever imagined… if this isn’t magic, then tell me, what is it?”

Avelan: *clears his throat* "Okay, hold on, old knightess, I know I have an answer for this, some kind of virus, controlling the brain stem! Yeah, that is right, a virus!"

Penumbra: *retrieves her sword from the zombie's skull* "These bodies have been dead for thousands of years, their brain stems were long gone... so how do you explain that?"

Avelan: "Ugh-" *sighs* "-Well, you got me, I may not have the answer now, but one day, I promise old knightess, I will find it..." *takes up some brain matter from the zombie skull* "Right, I will do a substance test when I get back. Hmm, should we move on to the Necropolis now? The sun is setting, I don't want to walk through there at night!"

Penumbra: "Right... necropolis, I almost forgot... come, we don't have much time..."

[Penumbra smiled as she returned to the elevator, Avelan may not be a fighter, but his mind is stronger than his body. His pursue for the ultimate truth is what kept him in the top of the class and that is exactly the reason why she chose him for this task. Penumbra almost wished that Avelan was her son, because unlike her real biological son, Avelan knows exactly what he set out to do with his life, and never give up in the proccess...]

ps. you can go back to Skylark down RP to find out the true identity of Penumbra's son

Edit: done some changes

Mawashimono and Nish McGrit

Blessid-Bombardier

So far the Dragon Princess had two solid recruits for her team of Special Investigators. She had excellent operative looking into the Swarm’s connection to Metropolis and the Owlites and Magic line of gear.

She felt she needed a specialist in the raw natural magical resources of the planet itself. A name popped into her head - Nish McGrit, but she immediately dismissed the idea. The man was morally corrupt. There was no way she could trust him even though his knowledge of all that glitters was unmatched. With the plethora of magical shards, substances, and geodes to be found, in this world, Nish would be the best at venturing into the various underground channels below the wildwoods and compounds in search of new materials/minerals to bring back for further research.

No, he couldn’t be trusted to act altruistically, but she could count on his greed. Cast the right way, he might be the perfect man for the job. She didn’t relish a face-to-face meeting with him, but it had to be done.

She arrived at his home and found him in his typical attire - worn-down and dirty "clothes" that were reinforced with little protective pads. His bald head sat bare while his face was shrouded by equipment; he was wearing a faded skeleton bandana to cover up his crooked teeth, and his eyes were covered with orange goggles that he claimed let him see better in the dark. The Dragon Princess suspected that in reality they just blocked dirt from falling into his eyes. On his back he was carrying an extensive pack for mining including a handheld drill, rope, and a caged snipe to warn him of any dangerous gases whilst digging.

Nish set down his Warforged Pickaxe but didn’t bother to remove his goggles.

“Well, if it ain’t a pretty princess come to visit ole McGrit. Will wonders never cease.”

The Dragon Princess tightened her lips and replied, “Greetings, McGrit. How are things going for you?”

“Har, pretty dam well, Princess, considerin’ how good I am at what I do. And what I do,” responded McGrit “is get rich from all the glittering, shiny goodies in this here planet. And speaking of shiny, aint you just the shiniest knight I ever seen, har har.”

The Dragon Princess raised her glove palm up to try to stop the flow of words for a moment. “Yes, it’s about your being so good at your, er, job, that I’ve come to see you today. I have need of your skills.”

"Har, hell, who don’t have need of my skills? I’m the best dam miner on this planet. Or were you speaking of my romance skills, princess?” leered McGrit.

I’m not going to hit him! I’m not going to hit him! There’s too much at stake. thought the Dragon Princess.

“Well, if you’re truly the best as you believe, then I guess you should be my first choice for the team of Special Investigators I’m putting together,” said the Dragon Princess.

“Well, now I’m not much for teams, there lil Darlin, but wha’cha have ole McGrit?”

“There is a magical threat to the Spiral Order. I need to know all we can about the magical minerals and such that are found in the planet,” explained the Dragon Princess.

“Well, no one knows more than me. I work alone, but I don’t need any excuse to search out those kinda things. And who knows, maybe you’ll feel like rewardin me properly later,” he said with a wink.

The Dragon Princess tried to hide her grimace. “Thank you. I’ll give you any info I find from the other operatives, and I’ll expect reports on your progress.”

“Yeah, yeah, you betcha” said McGrit and he turned away to start preparing for his next spelunker.

Chris and the keep

New Message

Chris sighed, then put the Owlite time down. Now what? He pulled up the message interface. As he read the message his eyes widened. The Dragon Princess needs his help. He typed a small message back.

I will research the properties of the magic line of armors to see if I can find any sort of connection to the swarm.
Chris A.

He tucked the scripture under his arm and headed to the lift. Exiting the Scarlet Fortress. When he arrived in Haven, he delivered the Time to the other Historians and made a short stop at the Hall Of Heroes. He had to pay a visit to an old friend.

"Well look at that! The bookworm is back!" Archilus waved at Chris.

"Yes, the Bookworm needs some help." He replied, walking up to the Elemental Defender. "I need everything you know on your cloaks. Especially the Divine Set."

Archilus raised an eyebrow, "Oh? I thought you already knew everything about these guys. Your wearing a piece too."

"Yeah, I just discovered something and I need to review my facts. I need a copy of your book."

"Oh all right. No time for storytelling?" Archilus feigned an offended face. He pulled out a book and held it out, "You owe me one."

"Yeah see you later." Chris took the book and headed to his apartment. He had some reading to do.

More conspiracies than Metal Gear Solid3: snake eater

Location: depth 24, necropolis

[As the elevator gate opened, a smog of rotten dust flooded into the elevator. The smell of decomposing flesh filled the old knightess’s nostril as well as Avelan’s. Unfamiliar with the smell, Avelan vomited instantly, all of the things he ate for lunch was now below Penumbra’s feet.]

Avelan: *coughs* “Gah!!!” *coughs* “That smell! I might have done some dissections back in the academy, but this smell is just” *coughs* “Horrible!!!”

Penumbra: *unaffected by the rotten smell* “Let’s get to work, find that man and we will make this quick…”

Avelan: “Umm, one question old knightess, who is this man to be exact? I thought we were here to collect Almirian artefacts!”

Penumbra: “That is only one of the reasons, we will find the artefacts eventually, but finding the man who oversaw the creation of this planet is the priority, our Haven is within the reach of the swarm now, we must find a way to push it back and this man might know the answer.”

Avelan: *flips his glasses* “Well, that is true, but the swarm is a field of highly negative energy, it is kind of like an entropy thing, if the core is a body of pure positive energy, then the swarm must be the core’s counterbalance. You can’t have one without the other…”

Penumbra: *crosses her arms* “Isn’t that just one of the theories Wegner come up with?”

Avelan: “Yes, and it is one of the most probable and accepted theory we scientists have…”

Penumbra: *smiles* “But it is only a theory, hasn’t been proven now has it?”

Avelan: “Come on now, old knightess, do you really think some sentient being just happens to come up with the great idea to create a planet? There is a reason behind everything, I am sure this planet is none the wiser, it was formed with nothing but the laws of nature. And then the Gremlins spiced things up.”

Penumbra: *sags her shoulder* “We will see, once we find that man, dead or alive, we will know the answer.”

Avelan: “And what happens if he doesn’t know the truth either?”

[Before Penumbra can throw back a smart comeback to silence the young geo scientist. Two shadowy figures appeared out of nowhere. It was none other than the two unofficial members of the crimson order. Zaith and Xera, a knife combat expert and a female sniper elite, they stared at the old knightess with great hostility and have their weapons drawn against her. The atmosphere just got more intense than ever.]

Penumbra: *draws her sword, recognizes the red outfits the Gremlin duo are wearing* “Crimson elites?! What are you two doing here? Did Tinkinzar send you both here on a mission?”

Zaith: *puts his bowie knife back into the sheath and laughs* “Foolish Isoran! We are here to send a message to anyone who dares to infiltrate the necropolis.”

Xera: *sighs* “Come on Zaith, let it out, we don’t have all day with these spiral knight scums…”

Zaith: *grins at Xera and turns back to Penumbra* Alright, listen very carefully, old timer, I will say this only once, if that ‘man’ who created cradle is what you seek, turn back now, the Almirians had make every precautions to ensure no one reaches his prison alive….”

Penumbra: “Prison? Don’t tell me that this whole Necropolis is…”

Xera: *becomes impatient* “Yes, grandma, this city of the dead IS his prison. And yes, he is still ‘alive’… and let me tell you right now, this man is the one who made this planet, he created the core as well as the swarm and he is also responsible for turning Vanaduke into the mad beast that he is today.”

Avelan: *walks casually back into the elevator* “Ugh, I think that is enough conspiracy for one day…”

Penumbra: *pulls Avelan back to her side* “Let them finish…”

Zaith: “Look around us, old knightess. This whole world, from the skies we live under to the earth we walked… it is all his creation… and he isn’t happy with the imprisonment… talking to him will only result in your bloody end… this is your last warning…”

Penumbra: *crosses her arm* “I have a mission… I will go on regardless of what you two said, Gremlins… your kinds are proven untrustworthy after all you did to the Spiral Order…”

Zaith: *shrugs* “Fine, suit yourself…” *tosses some thermite explosives into Avelan’s hands* “Here, egghead, have some these latest Gremlin ingenuity! They will be proven quite useful blowing up whatever is sealing away that ‘man’!”

Avelan: *puts the thermite explosives into his backpack* “Hey, why are you fur balls helping us all over a sudden?”

Xera: *chuckles* “No, the old knightess is right, we Gremlins are mischievous by nature, the closer you get to that man, the less likely you will get out of this hell hole alive.” *blows a creepy kiss Avelan* “Good luck…”

The Dragon Princess Gets Her Tail Back

The Dragon Princess was quite pleased with the team of Special Investigators she has assembled thus far. She decided to go see the Arcane Enchantress to see how she was coming along on those magical trinkets.

She knocked on the Enchantresses door. There was no answer but she could hear chanting coming from somewhere inside. She walked around and peered in a window. The inside of the home was dimly lit with and smoky with fragrant incense. There were various statues and decorations of apparently ancient design and superior craftsmanship.

The Dragon Princess went back to the front door and found it unlocked. She opened it a bit and said “Hello?” she could still hear the chanting, so she walked in to see if she could locate the Enchantress. Parting some hanging beads or small bones in a doorway, the Dragon Princess peered in to see the Enchantress sitting in the middle of circular shape with an intricate pattern. Across from her was a another design on the floor in a star shape with patters drawn around and inside it. hovering within the star was a spirit of some sort. the Enchantress seemed to be communicating with it. Her eyes were rolled back with only the whites showing. She was naked except for an abundance of jewelry wrapped around her neck wrists, and ankles.

The conversation came to an end as the Dragon Princess stood transfixed in the doorway, hand still raised to part the string of hanging bones. The Arcane Enchantress came out of her trance and noticed the presence of the Dragon Princess.

“Mawashimono! What a nice surprise. Do come in,” said the Enchantress.

“I apologize for interrupting,” said the Dragon Princess.

“Not at all, dear. I was just finishing up,” smiled the Enchantress.

“Would you like me to wait in your living room while you get dressed?” asked Mawashimono.

“No, not at all. In fact, now might be a good time to fix that little problem of yours,” said the Enchantress.

“My little problem?” said the Dragon Princess in puzzlement.

“Yes, Hon. You think I didn’t notice that you had lost your tail?”

“Oh, that” said the Dragon Princess sheepishly. “Yes, but for a good cause, I hope.”

“Well, come on in and let’s see if we can get it back for you,” said the Enchantress.

“Oh, ok, you can do that?” asked the Dragon Princess.

“Fortunately, both Salamanders like myself and Dragon like you possess some innate abilities for regrowth of missing limbs, especially our tails,” explained the Enchantress. “With the aid of some spells, potions, and tantric emergy, I think we can stimulate the regrowth of your tail.”

“Mhmm, and what is tantric energy?” inquired Mawashimono.

“Oh, well . . . simply put, it’s a channeling of divine energy for spiritual release and creativity, kind of. But don’t worry. You’ll be in the hands of a master, literally,” she said with a giggle.

“Ok, then what do you need me to do?”

“Great!” said the Enchantress. “Remove your clothes and hang them over there while I prepare you a mat and the necessary potion and oils. I also find that incense helps prepare the mind? Would you like jasmine, vanilla essence, or cinnamon?”

“Um, jasmine sounds nice,” replied the Dragon Princess.

After the Dragon Princess had disrobed and the preparations were completed, the Enchantress directed her to the next step.

“Wow, you really look great underneath all that armor. You must really stay in shape,” said the Enchantress admiringly.

“Mmm, I suppose all the fighting keeps my muscles toned fairly well,” agreed the Dragon Princess.

“Cool, now here are some necklaces and bracelets and anklets that contain silver and magnetic qualities that will help stimulate and channel your neotantra energy and animal magnetism. Now lie on your stomach on this mat here” directed the Enchantress.

As the Enchantress began to rub oil on the wound where Mawashimono’s tail had been severed, she continued her explanation. “This ritual is part magical and part spiritual.” As her hand rubbed the heated oil on Mawashimono’s tail bone, the Dragon Princess moaned with pleasure.

“Mmmmm, that feels wonderful,” she purred.

“Good, good. What we’re trying to do is manipulate the subtle energy within your sensual embodiment. In order to access that energy, we need to stimulate and enhance your erotic pleasure zones,” explained the Enchantress as she slid her hands down between Mawashimono’s legs.

“Ah, ah, mmph, mmmm. Yep” gasped the Princess in pleasure. “You’re certainly doing a good job of that.”

“That’s great. Now just relax and let me do the rest,” said the Arcane Enchantress.

As the ritual progressed, Mawashimono’s senses were taken to previously unexperienced heights until there was a climactic build up and release of energy from both within and without her. After briefly blacking out, she awoke somewhat dazed to find the Enchantress gazing down at her with a big smile.

“Wow, I thought you look good before, but you look amazing now,” commented the Enchantress.

The Dragon Princess felt amazing too, more refreshed and vigorous than she had felt since her last visit to the mountainous hot springs of her homeland. She wiggled her new tail with delight.

“It’s wonderful, Enchantress. Thank you ever so much,” exclaimed the Dragon Princess.

“It was my pleasure,” smiled the Enchantress. “Oh, I almost forgot. I’ve finished those magical trinkets for our mission as well.”

“Our mission?” asked the Princess with a smile.

“You don’t think I’d miss out on another chance to delve into the Core with you, do you?” said the Enchantress.

“Wonderful,” nodded the Dragon Princess. “Let’s prepare for our journey.”

First Boss inbound: Sir Torin of Almire

[And like the phantom they appeared, Zaith and Xera disappeared into the shadow as if they never existed. Without taking their warnings seriously, Penumbra and Avelan ventured into the Necropolis. As they entered the threshold of the cemetery ground, all was silent. A phalanx of petrified almirian crusaders could be seen from a distance, their eyes are made of cinders, but strangely after all these years, the cinders are still glowing bright.]

Penumbra: *points at one of the petrified Almirian crusaders* “These petrified bodies still have glowing cinders for their eyes… how do you explain that…”

Avelan: “Well, the dry air and the high temperature around here might be one of the reasons, maybe the almirians’ bones contain a rich amount of carbon and after years of petrification, these carbons are converted into coal and they are set on fire by the… hot wind???”

Penumbra: “Sketchy, but I see where you are going with that theory…”

[Penumbra’s investigation comes to a grinding halt at a steel gate that barged off the rest of the necropolis. Through the rusty steel gates, Penumbra can see a few fancily decorated temples, it seems they are reserved for the Almirian royalties. Knowing that the mystery man wouldn’t be buried amongst the commoners, Penumbra hacked away at the iron lock of the gate with her sword, the lock was rock solid and the gate refused to open. The steel gate stood menacingly at the old knightess and the young scholar and there is no way for the two of them to simply climb over.]

Penumbra: *groans* “…This is not good…”

Avelan: *strokes his chin* “Hmm, perhaps we can use the thermite explosives those fur balls gave us to blow the gate open.”

Penumbra: *shakes her head* “That would be unwise, I was planning on saving those powerful explosives for blowing up an entrance into the tombs…”

Avelan: “So, where should we find a key?”

[A sudden wild wind blows across the gate and blew Penumbra’s long grey hair into a disarray. For a moment she was stunned, she can still hear the sound of Avelan screaming the back ground. After she came to her senses, the spectre of an Almirian knight phased through the steel gate. And surprisingly, the key to the steel gate is hanging on the spectre’s neck. The spectre stared ominously at the old knightess and draws his spear.]

Penumbra: *sees that the spectre’s weapon looks realistic* “Who are you?”

Torin’s ghost: *speaks Almirian* “[I am sir Torin, General of the Almirian second army group… I was sent here to guard this grave… for an eternity… WHO ARE YOU?]”

Penumbra: *doesn’t understand Almirian* “What is he saying?” *draws her blade*

Avelan: *sees the spectre and sneers* “What THE, Torin?” *flips through his notes* “Oh my sweet sky lark, that is the ghost of Sir Torin! The general of the Almirian second army!!!”

Penumbra: “Enough with the trivial facts… tell him about our mission, and request him of the passage deeper into the Necropolis…”

Avelan: “I will give this a try…” *clears his throat and tries to speak Almirian* “[Greetings Sir Torin, we are the Spiral knights from the planet Isora, we are here to acquire audience with the man who oversaw the creation of cradle.]”

Torin’s ghost: *angered* “[You dare tread upon the tomb of the forgotten one?!]” *stops and considers* “[Hmmm, that knightess seems to be competent in combat, say, how about a duel, and if the knightess win, I shall grant you access to the inner sanctum?]”

Avelan: *turns to Penumbra* “Ugh, Grandma Penumbra, the ghost wants to challenge you to a duel… the winner gets to keep the key…”

Penumbra: “Challenge accepted…” *bows respectfully at Torin before drawing her weapon*

Once more into the depths

[Nish finds his usual entrance into the underground area without much fuss from the beasts of the wildwoods. Beasts usually left him alone due to his common presence in the area, and familair smell. Moving the grass mat hidding it aside, he opens the small vault door, and heads inside.]

"Somthin' magical she says, well if we're lookin' fer magic, i could just toss her a pebble, tell her it gets huge when you aint lookin'!"

Nash said, kicking a few loose rocks as he made his way deeper inside.

"Supposin' course she ain't gonna test it or some such nonsense"

He said, with a small frown, looks like he'd have to find something of acctual value. But there wasn't much he could classify as "magical" down here. A few pretty rocks worth maybe a crown apeice, and plenty of space ahead of him before he reached the mineral layer. Then again, why even head into the mineral layer? He had been there loads of times, and sure it was full of precious (And extreamly heavy) gems, none of them held any real power or magic, beyond the power of greed that is, so what would be a better alternative? Nash began talking with himself to weigh his options

"Well we could just bring 'er back some of the ol' crimson er lumen crystals, nothing wrong with that. But she already knows about that stuff, she wants somfin' new now! What about the abandon mine we found? Collapsed, full o' spiders, 'member that? Right, cross that one off. Well what about the black city way down there?"

Nash couldn't think of anything against the city, besides that he had always avoided it for some reason. The place just felt...wrong. But the money it could hold would feel great! He kept the place well barricaded for reasons he didn't even know, but they were easily past, and served more as a warning anyway.

"Let's see what she has to offer..."

Return to the Core

Although the Core was technically still sealed, the Dragon Princess had discovered a few alternate ways in during her adventures. One was through the caverns at the bottom of the Well of Mist Eerie. The other was the ancient, hidden lift that the Arcane Enchantress and the Dragon Princess had used upon their return from the Core after meeting the Alpha Squad. Since they were returning to the Core as a team once again, they chose the lift.

The Dragon Princess was feeling rejuvenated with the re-growth of her tail and the new luster to her shiny scales. The Arcane Enchantress was full of vitality as well, fully charged and equipped with the magical powers they might need to face the demonic creatures that dwelt near the core of the planet.

“Thanks again for performing the ritual to regrow my tail, Arcane Enchantress,” enthused the Dragon Princess.

“It was my pleasure, Mawashimono,” responded the Arcane Enchantress with a big smile.

“Well, I think the pleasure was mostly mine,” said the Dragon Princess with a shy smile, “but I’ve never felt stronger.”

“Yes, the tantric ritual carries with it that benefit. It was more than your tail that experienced a rejuvenation. The process works at a cellular level, so your whole body benefits,” explained Arcane Enchantress.

They reached the hidden lift and stopped to re-check their supplies before descending. The Dragon Princess was hesitating. She recalled her death the last time they had visited the Core. She had been fighting her way through a Compound and had sacrificed herself so the rest of her team could reach the hidden lift.

In those final moments when she had been facing her own mortality and the blood and fire had been coursing through her body, thoughts from her life had flashed across her mind. She had thought of her true love, Lionheart, and their time together. She regretted not being able to say goodbye to her family back in the kingdom of dragons where they lived and reigned. She thought of her dear friends and guildmates whom she would never see again.

It had made her more somber, more respectful and appreciative of her time on this world.

She looked again at the Arcane Enchantress who had saved her life with her magic. She regretted that she had not taken more time afterwards to cultivate a deeper relationship with the Arcane Enchantress since that time. She resolved not to make that mistake again should they survive this current mission.

The Arcane Enchantress saw the Dragon Princess gazing thoughtfully at her and picked up on her reluctance.

“I remember that you experienced a death the last time we went down there, but you came out of it alright. In fact, you are better than ever,” commented the Arcane Enchantress.

“Yes, it was you that revived me then, too” said the Dragon Princess. “I’m glad it’s you who’s going with me again, but I hope we won’t have any more deaths.”

“Together we’ll be fine,” assured the Arcane Enchantress.

With a nod they got on the lift and descended into the Core.

anyone keen on some side quests?

[Torin shows a sign of relieve when he sees the old knightess draws her weapon, as if he has been anticipating this duel for centuries. Without holding back any longer, Torin’s ghost charges toward Penumbra with a powerful thrust from his spear. Penumbra parries the attack with her shield and quickly rolls out of the way before regaining her poise, the knightess’s breath is deepened as she realize that the Almirian ghost could harm her directly.]

Torin’s ghost: *congratulates Penumbra in Almirian* “[I am impressed… few can evade my attack like that…]”

[Avelan stood by and watched as the two clashed. Torin takes out his shield and rapidly pokes his spear toward the old knightess through his cover, Penumbra manages to successfully parry most of them, but some of the thrusts manages to make through and leave behind new scratch marks on Penumbra’s armour. Torin’s fighting style is highly aggressive and it is almost impossible to find a gap between his attacks to strike back. Penumbra is left with no choice but to parry as many attacks as she can, knowing that Torin will soon break her defence. The old knightess takes a step back and hopes Torin perform another charge, luckily, Torin took the bait and left himself wide open while performing his finishing move.]

Torin’s ghost: *aims for Penumbra’s chest* “[This fight is over!]”

[Penumbra pays close attention at Torin’s spear, she waits till the moment that the spear is at five paces away from her. Penumbra swiftly brushes the spear away with the hilt of her sword and disarmed Torin. The almirian general runs pass Penumbra only to realize that his spear has been taken away from him and he never landed the killing blow.]

Avelan: *gasps* “Wow, that was amazing grandma Penumbra! You totally rule!”

Penumbra: *pants* “He was good, really good, if I miscalculated just by one less pace and he would have pierced my heart out…”

Torin’s ghost: *chuckles and claps* “[You win, old knightess, I shouldn’t have underestimated you… the key is yours…]” *takes the gate key off his neck and passes it onto Penumbra*

Penumbra: *takes the key* “Thank you, sir Torin…”

Torin’s ghost: “[There are many sentinels guarding the inner sanctum… heed my warnings, outsiders… they will not be in the mood of challenging trespassers to duels…]” *fades away* “[My duty as the gate keeper is complete, now I shall return to my legion… they still need my command…]”

Penumbra: “What did he say?”

Avelan: “Well, Sir Torin just told us that there are still sentinels within the sanctum, he just wants us to watch out for those guys.”

[After unlocking the steel gate, the old knightess and the scholar ventured deeper into the necropolis. For a while they did not encounter the fabled sentinels and the old knightess slows down a bit to catch a breath.]

Penumbra: *feels an agonizing pain on her chest* “ARGH!!!” *leans onto a stone wall*

Avelan: “Hey, grandma Penumbra, what is wrong?”

Penumbra: “I am fine, just stay alert…” *takes a look at the old photo of her son* “…okay, the pain has subsided… for now…” *recovers*

Avelan: “Hmm, you are suffering from stroke aren’t you… maybe I can use my school allowance to get you a pacemaker.”

Penumbra: *shakes her head* “Save your allowance for something else… I still need this heart to cherish the things I cared the most…” *checks the photo of her son* “Don’t worry Affraiel… I will make this world a better place just like I promised…”

[The temples around the stony paths were well decorated with tile painting of the heroic exploits of the Almirian armies. Many marble statues were also erected to commemorate famous Almirian generals, strangely, not a single of one of them is Torin’s, the only one that seems to be his was knocked down and defiled beyond recognition.]

Penumbra: “Strange… why didn’t the Almirians honour Sir Torin? He was a distinguished Almirian general wasn’t he?”

Avelan: “Heh heh, sorry to burst the bubble, old knightess, but the reason why Sir Torin was denied of his recognition was because he had a secret love affair with the Almirian princess, who already had a suitor at the time. In fact, she was meant to marry the prince of another kingdom, and the fact she ‘cheated’ on the suitor resulted in a full out war.”

Penumbra: *crosses her arm and sighs* “So, Torin’s reputation was ruined because of an act of love, no wonder his soul was condemned to guard the inner sanctum…”

[Penumbra now felt deep sympathy for Sir Torin, because she remembers the day when she was forced to confront the man she loved. Nowen Greyionne, who was also a renounced Isoran general, during a one night encounter, they fell in love and soon Penumbra was pregnant with Nowen’s child. Sadly, the grey guards will have none of it, a knightess of Nowensgrad was meant to have both purity of mind as well as body, knowing that their marriage was forbidden, Penumbra was forced by the grey guard officials to assassinate Nowen in order to protect her career as a knightess as well as giving the grey guards more control over the city. The baby in her womb was also snatched away from her soon after he was born, the baby boy, Penumbra remembered naming him after 'Affraiel', a fairy tale hero who had the strength to lift planets away from their orbits to save the people from astroids.]

Avelan: *sees that Penumbra is spacing out* “Ugh, Grandma Penumbra, I know you had a traumatic past, but now it is not the time to cling on to it. We really need to find the tomb of this mystery man before the sun goes down!”

Penumbra: “You are right…” *points at the tomb straight ahead* “Is that it? That must be the one…”

Avelan: “Wai-Wait, the codex here indicates that the tomb you were pointing at is the grave of Almirian princess. Her exact name is Resulis II, who was renounced for her unrivalled beauty and she was in possession of one of the most finely made tiara back in her day.”

Penumbra: *crosses her arms and considers* “Even though her tomb are not a part of the reasons why we are here, we can still inform the Dragon princess about this…”

[Dear Mawashimono,
We have reached the inner sanctum and the tomb of the mystery man is within my reach. However, it seems even the ghost we encountered refused to mention his name, that is, if he had a name to begin with.
We also discovered the tomb of Resulis II, an Almirian princess who was renounced for her unrivalled beauty, but the beauty should be the least of your worries since she was long dead, she was cut down at her youth due to unforeseen accident. However, she was in possession of a priceless tiara which should be buried along with her, if you or any of the other investigators are interested in some tomb raiding, be sure to check it out.
Yours,
Penumbra Greyionne

Dark city

[Nish had entered the dark area and was sitting on the outtermost fringe to examine the city, clinging to the light from the little lantern he had.]

Well here I am, in the devil's playing ground for that princess. Place seems off, many things i aint seen before, but all seems F̶a̶m̶l̶i̶i̶a̶s̶r̶ Familiar in a way. These buildins look l̶i̶r̶e̶ like the ones i seen back at the city, jus a bit rundown. Acctually, these are made of some kinda stone even I aint familair with, some kinda purpleblack mixture, will lookinto this later. Place is beyond weird really, always seems to be flooded about an inch with water, it sounds like water, it looks like water, but it ain't cold! Matter of fact it doesn't even feel wet! Might want a bit for the royalty to look into. Will continue after further exploration.

Closing his notebook, Nish dug through his pack for a little glass jar, holding it up to the light breifly he checked to make sure it was empty. Satisfied with the hollow container, he knelt down and scooped up some of the strange essence. Sishing it around, it stuck to the sides and slowly melted down, similar to a jar of syrup. yet the liquid didn't impede his walking.

"Just what in Sam Hell is this?"

He said, stowing away the jar into his pack. Moving closer to the nearest building, Nish examined the strange structure. Putting his hand onto the odd metal, he felt the strange substance that was on the floor permeating from it.

New discovery, seems this odd stuff i found on the floor binds the buildings together, like it's some kind of glue. For it's namesake i'll call it 'binding essence from here on out. Going to try to pry a peice of the building off, wish me luck.

Stowing his journal again, Nish with drew his hand drill, and placed it on a crease within the structure. In an odd pint, when he started cranking the drill, the alloy didn't cruble, scratch, or even show any damage, instead it simply drifted away from the other seemingly identical alloy bricks next to it. Pulling it off easily, Nish had a perfect ingot in his hand, and a thousand questions revolving around it.

These confound bricks seem to raise a tousand questions and never bother to answer any. Each peice of it gives me a headache, all of 'em more confusing that the last. Personally I'd call it a confusion brick, but fancy names sell better than others, so i'm going to name it the 'Perplexing element' from here on in. Journey continues, but not for long, I gotta get ou̶̯̬̠̲̐̿͑̉̊̂͜͜ţ̴̨͉̫͎̦̀̌͋̃̏̓ of ̶̘͕̺͕̫̺̿̀̋͗͝͠hḛ̵̭̟̺͔̠̐̏͒͐̃̕r̶͕̺͙̙̻͉̍̎́͛̔̽ė̴̥̰̬͚̦̝͗͂́̇͘>

Nish was surprized at what he had written in the end, the odd symbols around his words. Looking at his pencil, the tip had been coated in the strange essence he had captured in the bottle. Stowing it away, it seems he was done writing. Time to move into the city itself...

the Journal

The leather cover clapped shut as Chris shut the book. He had finished re-reading it and had taken notes on the more important parts. Says here that the Divine Mantle and Hoods were worn by 'Celestial Sages' I wonder if these are high ranking Owlite's or not. He fingered the cloth of his Divine Mantle.

"What secrets are you hiding?" He whispered. A thought occurred to him, Celestial Sages, if they might be high ranking Owlite Scholars, maybe they have some sort of Living quarters in the Owlite High Academy.

He put the book down on his desk and went to his closet. Inside were his two weapons, CrossWay and NightHawk. He picked them both up and holstered them. He walked out into the Arcade, picked the correct depth, and went down. He was heading to the same Owlite keep where one knight had brought back an Owlite time that spoke of Almire.

The lift creaked to a halt and Chris stepped out into the darkness. He brought out a lantern, and lit it with an Owlite Candlestick. The light would ward off Grimalkin's and allow him to study his work in peace.

He navigated his way to the living quarters, and read the labels on each door. Once he found a room that was labeled with the highest ranking Owlite, he entered the dusty room. Inside, there was a book stand with multiple shelves. There was a few dusty Status Vials, and a bookshelf full of scrolls. Chris peered at the shelves, wondering which one to start with. In his research, he found that Owlite's order things in least important to important. He selected the last scroll and set the lantern down. He sat near it and rolled open the scroll.

More reading. This will be interesting.

Mystery man inbound

[Penumbra and Avelan finally arrived at the tomb of the mystery man, or rather, his prison. The area was rather deserted compared to the other tombs and it is no doubt that the grave was made with great haste, only crude markings can be seen at the entrance. The sun is fading fast and the two will no doubt have to spend the night inside the grave of this man.]

Penumbra: *points at the entrance* “What is that over there… those crude markings…”

Avelan: *reads the signs on the entrance* “This grave belongs to Inceptron the forgotten one, dare not tread upon his resting ground, for you will not find what you seek.” *strokes his chin* “Hmm, interesting, so the mystery man is called Inceptron, quite the name he has got there…”

Penumbra: *crosses her arms and mumbles* “Inceptron the forgotten one... poetic, yet funny..."

Avelan: “If he is responsible for the creation of the swarm. Then he should know its weakness! This is exactly what we needed! Oh, and also, I still wanted some Almirian artefacts for my final exam.”

Penumbra: “You can take some from inside of his tomb… let’s hope the man is still alive to tell the tale…”

Avelan: "How can you be so sure old knightess? It has been almost 4000years after the fall of the Almirian empire."

Penumbra: "Of he was powerful enough to pull a planet out of his pocket, he must be more than just a mere mortal..."

Avelan: "We really are stumbling upon some bad science here..."

[As Penumbra embraces the darkness inside the forgotten tomb, Avelan lights up a glow worm. The inside of the tomb was huge, a sharp contrast with its crude entrance, but there were no fancy marble statues or tile paintings here, only crude rock carvings of the mystery man’s deeds. A large granite slab near the entrance portrayed the mystery man, he looked like a heavily armoured knight, with his arms stretched high into the sky, with the suffering almirian people beneath his feet. Crude lines of almirian are written below the granite slab, describing his horrific acts of genocide.]

Avelan: *takes a picture of the granite slab* “Wow, this man was… some kind of angry god… “

Penumbra: “Angry god, what do you mean?”

Avelan: “It says here that Inceptron, A.K.A. the mystery man, was responsible for the destruction of the Almirian race as well as the millions of civilization that came before…” *reads another stone codex next to the granite slab* “Inceptron, the man who tears through the fabrics of void and created two kinds of energy. The pure, mist energy and the corrupted, swarm energy, they made up the foundation for this world, in his lust for control over his creation, he used the swarm to consume those who defied him until one day he was locked up by a greater power...”

Penumbra: “A greater power?”

Avelan: “Ugh, yeah, the codex didn't specify what that 'greater power' was... anyway, I should run a carbon dating scan on the codex to determine the date that this codex was made.” *takes out a carbon sensor and scans the codex* “Hmm, strange, these codex were made 100 years before the fall of the Almirian empire… so this man was locked here 100 years before vanaduke gone insane…”

Penumbra: “If he is locked all the way deep in this tomb, then how could he have influenced vanaduke all the way above to go insane?”

[Suddenly, a ghastly wind blows the old knightess's hair into shamble for the second time, Penumbra was slightly annoyed by the impossible wind since they were inside a tomb with no fresh air source. And it only becomes more unsettling for the old knightess when she hears a deep, musculine voice echoing from the granite interior of the tomb.]

???:*echoes*“Foolish trespassers, so unimaginative… my legion stretches beyond this tomb, every blade of grass is my servants, the shifting air is my eyes and the falling leaves are my treading footsteps… while my physical body is sealed beneath this prison, my mind has spread far and beyond, flowing along with the soothing wind.."

Penumbra: *becomes alarmed* “Who is there? Show yourself!”

???:*echoes*“I am Lord Inceptron, the one who made cradle… knights from the star, why are you here? Trying to find the ultimate truth? Leave now, for you shall find none here…”

Penumbra: “How did you turn Vanaduke into a monster with your mind alone? Some kind of black magic?”

???:*echoes with a sarcastic tone*“Vanaduke had what was coming for him, it was his own lust for power that turned him into a monster, regardless of whether he was under my influence or not, one’s demise was always one’s own making...”

The Summoning

The Dragon Princess and Arcane Enchantress got onto the lift and stood side by side while it powered up. They quickly glanced at one another as it shifted slightly before descending with a grinding of metal that sent sparks flying. Neither said a word as the temperature gradually rose with the lowering of the lift. It came to grinding halt and settled into place with a jolting thud.

Although they were in a deep cavern, it was so immense that the ceiling and walls could only be partially glimpsed through a smoky haze.

As they stepped off the lift, the Dragon Princess said “If my memory serves me correctly, this is not the same place where we rode the lift form last time we were here.”

“Yeah,” concurred the Arcane Enchantress. “I’ve done a fair amount of natural hallucinigens and such since our journey to the core, but my memory is till sharp. We are definitely in a different area.”

“Any idea which way we might go to find the demonic source we are looking for?” the Dragon Princess asked the Arcane Enchantress.

“I suggest a summoning here to ask one of the demons just that,” said the Arcane Enchantress.

She set about drawing a pentagram within which to contain the demon. She drew a second smaller one for herself as magical protection. She murmured a spell and the demonic spirit appeared.

The spirit glanced around casually before resting its eyes on the Arcane Enchantress. “I’ve not been summoned in ages. I’m curious to meet the sorceress with the knowledge and power to pull it off,” it rumbled in a deep but airy voice.

“I am the Arcane Enchantress and this is my companion, the Dragon Princess,” the Arcane Enchantress informed the demon. “I have summoned you for information, which you will give me on or be subjected to the Terrible Tickle,” said the Arcane Enchantress in a haughty voice.

The demon scowled while the Dragon Princess smiled confusedly. “I’m sorry,” said the Dragon Princess, “But the Terrible Tickle? This is a real torture?” she inquired.

“Oh, yes,” responded the Arcane Enchantress. “Demons can’t stand to be made to laugh or mirth of any kind.”

“I also can’t stand impertinent knights who would dare to summon me!” growled the demon. “You’ll get nothing out of me.”

“Be that way if you want,” said the Arcane Enchantress. “Go ahead, Mawashimono, tell it a joke if you want to inflict some suffering on it.”

The Dragon Princess thought for a moment then said “Ok, err, How do you make Holy water?" After a pause she said "Boil the hell out of it.”

The demon grimaced in disgust and scowled at her.

“I should have been more clear,” said the Arcane Enchantress. “I meant tell a funny joke.”

The Dragon Princess gave her a look and tried again. “Ok, here’s one from my home country. What kind of shoes do ninjas wear?” She paused for a moment before saying “Sneakers. heh-heh.”

The demon grabbed its side in pain.

Encouraged, the Dragon Princess continued. “Did you hear about the new corduroy pillows in our guild hall? They’re making headlines everywhere!” The Arcane Enchantress chuckled

“What happens when you get a bladder infection?" asked the Dragon Princess. "Urine trouble.” The Arcane Enchantress giggled.

The demon moaned and fell to a knee. “Stop,” it begged.

“Oh, one more while were on the topic of urine. Why can’t you hear a psychiatrist use the toilet? Cuz his “p” is silent.”

“Grrryahhh, Fine, fine, I’ll tell you whatever you want to know. Just stop with those infernally awful jokes!” it yelled.

“I’m glad you’ve come around to our way of thinking,” said the Arcane Enchantress. “Tell us where we can find the source of the Swarm,” she commanded.

A slow grin spread across the demon’s face. “You are either very foolish or very daring,” said the demon. “I suspect it’s the former. The swarm if commanded by Lord Inceptron - a being of great power more ancient than the world we inhabit. He is entombed, but the demonic horde he commands lives in a realm nearer to the Core. Two paths lead form this platform. Take the one that descends and you shall come to the place you seek.”

“And if we don’t demon, I’ll summon you again and not spare you a tickling for the ages,” said the Arcane Enchantress. She spoke a releasing spell and the demon disappeared.

Well,” said the Dragon Princess, “I guess we leave Lord Inceptron to one of the other Investigators like Penumbra, and go and investigate the home of the demons.”

“Sounds like a plan, Princess,” said the Arcane Enchantress. “Nice jokes, by the way,” she said as she gave Mawashimono a playful slap on the butt. “Maybe on the way I’ll tell you some that are even better.”

The tome says

Chris flipped the page and read on.

The Kat Klan has been growing restless, rumors are that they mean war on us. We have been preparing for battle, we have developed vials of fluid which explode into a cloud of 'status.' So far the tests haveBookwormccesful. A curse has already been laid on the Book of Grey feathers should anyone other than an Owlite use it. We have been asking for aid from the gremlins, as the fiends of the Dark cities have allied with the Klan. They are willing to help, but at a price. We are helping them with their weapons as well, changing the kind of damage they inflict from normal damage to the elemental damage of the Owlite's. In turn, they are very good at many different jobs. Spying, guarding, tinkering, and others are jobs they are exceptional at compared to the Owlite's.

Chris sighed and closed the book. Nothing about the swarm, only the Kat war. He rolled up the scroll and slid it back into its compartment. He took another and rolled it open.

They have gone, our allies have betrayed us. The Crimson Order has stolen our experiments on a hive minded bioweapons. The Swarm is incomplete, its use is to be harmful to enemies and give power to allies. I fear the Crimson Order may turn it into something else, something much more sinister. Few gremlins stay with our cause, they say they are now exiled. They talk of a town in the clockworks, a town of exiles. They say once they were done, they would find a home there. I wish them luck. Preparations for war with the Klan are not going well. Our greatest advantage was stolen from us, we must be strategic. We will wage a defensive war, hopefully push off the Kat's before they destroy us.

He stared at what he just read. Blinking, Chris reread the text. Taking the scroll he rolled it up and slipped it into his pack. He exited the room and looked for the closest exit. Quickly he checked his minimap. He quickly walked towards the lift. A room stood in the way between him and the lift. No doubt a collection of angry spirits would manifest and attack. Chris sighed and drew CrossWay. Holding the trigger down he started charging the gun. Once it was fully charged he walked right into the room. A Ghostly Howlitzer appeared, chattering at him. Around him, three skeletal hands shot out of the ground and three Dust zombies clawed their way out of the ground.

Chris looked at them, "Could be worse."

He pointed at the Howlitzer and released the charge. The large bullet sailed through the air and collided with the skeletal turret. It screamed and dissolved, the bullet Ricochet's hit two of the Dust zombies and they fell backwards. Chris turned around and fired twice at each, silencing them. Before sidestepping the third zombie's leap. Chris held out CrissWay to the zombies head to blow it off. Then something collided with his side and exploded, throwing him across the room.

Chris cursed himself as he remembered a Howlitzer's last attack. He looked up to see the zombie staring at him. It reared back and let loose its stunning breath. Chris crawled backwards as his movements became sluggish. The zombie raised a claw to strike.

A flurry of golden bullets collided with the zombie, it turned its head and clattered. It turned sideways and was hit with a soaring holographic eagle. Chris turned his head and saw a knight holding an Argent Peacemaker. The stun wore off and he quickly got up. His vision cleared and he was looking at. Archilus.

"Hey Bookworm, you think I'd let you get yourself killed while you had my book now did you?"

Chris shook his head, "honestly I didn't give it any thought. I was just leaving, I can return it once we get back to Haven."

"Ok, what were you here for anyways?'

"It's a special assignment given to me by a Guild Master."

"Care to give me details, Bookworm?"

"Fine, on the way up. Once we are at Haven I have a letter to send."

Lord Inceptron=TROLL

Penumbra: “Fine, and that is that for Vanaduke… So Lord Inceptron, you made the swarm didn’t you? Then you should know swarm’s weakness!”

???:*echoes* “With light, there must be darkness, if you want to destroy the swarm, you will have to sacrifice the core itself to neutralize all the negative energy… and without the core, this planet will die… I will not allow you to destroy the swarm, the only thing that I can offer is a temporary solution…”

Penumbra: “Then let’s hear that solution!”

???:*echoes*“Then come deeper into the tomb, my final resting place is near… once you freed me from this prison… I will show you how…”
Penumbra: *crosses her arms* “Fine, but one last thing, lord Inceptron, how did you manage to speak Isoran so fluently without ever come into contact with us?”

???:*echoes*“I have been surveying you ever since you first fell from the stars, old knightess… I know everything about you… also Avelan Renkens, the young scholar next to you…”

Avelan: *feeling lucky and chuckles* “Alright then, Mister ‘GOD’, what is the colour of my underwear?”

???:*echoes* “Hmm, let’s see… it is pink isn’t it… with so called ‘laces’…”

Penumbra: *gasps and shakes her head in disbelief* “How could a man wear pink lace underwear?”

???:*echoes* “…Avelan Renkens, you stole your older sister’s underwear and used it for yourself… of course it is designed for the females of your kind…”

Avelan: *blushes and panics* “Ugh, hey, it wasn’t my fault! All my pants went into the washing machine this morning and I have to go to my lecture on time! I can’t go to the academy without underwear now can’t I?” *turns to Penumbra* “Come on, old knightess, cut me some slack!”

Penumbra: *face palms* “Just change it back when you got home, okay?”

[While Penumbra and Avelan were caught in the chatter, the echoing stopped and the ghastly wind retreated back into the deeper section of the tomb. It seems now there is no choice but to venture further into the grave of lord Inceptron. After a while, Penumbra stops and leans back against the wall to catch some rest, she is after all, not the same woman she used to be.]

Avelan: *takes out another glow worm and discards the old one* “Hey, are you okay there Grandma Penumbra?”

Penumbra: “Yeah… I am fine, I just needed a rest that is all…” *sniffs* “…” *sniffs* “Avelan… did you smell that?” *sniffs* “There is something… aromatic in the air…”

Avelan: *sniffs* “Hmm, what in the devil? Is someone using perfume all the way down in this tomb?”

Penumbra: *feeling dazed* “Ugh… Avelan…” *stands back up and stares seductively at Avelan* “Do you… like… old women?”

Avelan: *steps back from Penumbra* “What is wrong old knightess? Why ask something like that all over a sudden?”

Penumbra: *sweats and loosens up her armour* “Oh, I don’t know… just wondering if you are interested in… me…” *takes off her breast plate* “…It is getting hot down here… why don’t you take off that clumsy lab coat of yours?”

Avelan: *sniffs the air again* “Oh no, the perfume in the air, it is some kind of aphrodisiac isn’t it! Damn it Mister ‘God’! Why didn’t you tell us that the tomb is trapped?”

???:*echoes* “…. I didn’t make this tomb, so why should I know? And even if I did know, why should I help you and the knightess…”

Avelan: “She is old enough to be my grandmother, and been flirted by a woman of her age is just down right creepy!”

Penumbra: *in a daze* “I beg you Avelan… no man has ever laid a finger on me ever since I became a knightess, please…” *grabs onto Avelan’s arm* “… make me feel like a woman again…” *tries to kiss Avelan*

Avelan: *struggles* “Eeeeek!!!!”

[Suddenly, the pungent aroma fades away and Penumbra returns to her senses, it is then when she realizes that she is clinging to Avelan with her armour taken off. Ashamed by her adultery, Penumbra backs away from the scholar and quickly puts her armours back on.]

Penumbra: *blushes* “I apologize… I didn’t realize that the aroma was a trap until it was too late… did I cross the line?”

Avelan: *rubs away the sweat on his forehead* “…Thankfully no… I just scanned the aroma and did a substance test, and strangely enough, the perfume you inhaled doesn’t contain any aphrodisiac chemical… so does that mean…”

???: *echoes* “You mortals play your game… I play mine…” *chuckles* “Heh, heh, heh…”

Avelan: *sneers* “Well, at least now we know that this Mister ‘God’ has a very strange sense of humour…”

The Bat-King

They traveled down the path indicated by the demon they had summoned. As the path descended deeper toward the Core, the ambient light grew fainter and fainter, but the pair of knights were so caught up in their conversation that they hardly realized it.

Considering that they were on their way to face the demonic force behind the Swarm, they were in a surprisingly good mood. The Arcane Enchantress had been telling the Dragon Princess some funny jokes and they were laughing about some funny events in the life of the community and Lionheart guild.

“You really should join our guild,” said the Dragon Princess, not for the first time.

“Now, Mawa, you know I prefer the life of solo fighting. It just suits my mystical nature better,” replied the Arcane Enchantress.

“Yes, I understand that, but guilds are about so much more than fighting together. We socialize and support one another n many ways,” explained the Dragon Princess.

“And I appreciate that guilds do that – I really do – but it’s just not for me,” said the Arcane Enchantress with a wistful smile.

“Well, if you ev-Uhh” the Dragon Princess broke off as she something flew out of the dark and tackled her. The Arcane Enchantress instantly drew her sword and shield, but the light was so dim she could hardly make out anything. Meanwhile, the Dragon Princess was rolling around on the ground trying to fight off whatever had knocked her to the ground in a smelly, fury embrace.

Suddenly the Dragon Princess was lifted off the ground by the creature. The Dragon Princess spread her own wings as it became an airborne battle. The Arcane Enchantress slashed and bashed at the creatures as they swopped to attack her, but there were too many. They disarmed her and two of them roughly jerked her into the air as they flew off.

“Mawa, help, they’re flying off with me,” yelled the Arcane Enchantress.

The Dragon Princess knocked her attacker to the ground and sped through the air in pursuit. She lit the fiery eye of fury that adorned the front of her Storm Dragon helm in order to see where she was going better.

These were no demons they were fighting. They were bat-like creature the likes of which they had never seen before. They lived in near complete darkness, for there was a light bluish glow glittering from the walls of the underground home.

The Arcane Enchantress was dropped to the cavern floor and the Dragon Princess landed quickly beside her. They were near the bottom of some steps that had been carved into the stone. At the top of the steps sat a large bat-creature on a throne made from the bluish glowing rock. His head was crowned with a halo similar in style to the ones worn by the Arcane Enchantress and Dragon Princess.

“Welcome,” spoke the king in a voice not well-suited to the language of knights.

“A strange way to welcome guests,” hissed the Dragon Princess.

“We meant no harm, but we knew of know other way of bringing you here,” replied the king.

“You could have tried asking,” retorted the Dragon Princess. “Now one of your messenger-warriors lies injured at the point where you attacked us.”

“It was not an attack,” replied the king, “and his injuries are most regrettable, but these are desperate times.”

Brushing herself off, the Arcane Enchantress rose and asked “What do you mean by ‘desperate times’?”

“Recent events indicate that the legends of old are coming to fruition,” answered the bat-king.

“And how do your legends concern us?” asked the Arcane Enchantress.

“You are in the legends,” replied the bat-king.

The Arcane Enchantress and Dragon Princess looked at one another, then back at the bat-king.

“Could you explain what you mean?” asked the Arcane Enchantress.

“As you know, the world upon which so many various alien races dwell is not a natural world, but a created one. Every race here, the legends say, was brought here for a reason. Although the reasons are not clear they are hinted at in various ways. But all say that a group will form from the various races, a group that will liberate the inhabitants from the forces of evil that plague us all,” said the bat-king.

“And we are part of that group?” asked the Dragon Princess.

“Yes, as am I,” said the bat-king, “and four other royal bearers of halos.”

“Wait a minute,” said the Arcane Enchantress, “The Dragon Princess is royalty but I’m not.”

A counselor leaned over and whispered in the bat-king’s ear.

“Are you not the Arcane Enchantress?” asked the bat-king.

“Yes” replied the Arcane Enchantress with a nod.

“Know you not that your mother was a queen?” continued the bat-king.

“Wait, huh? What makes you think that?” asked the Arcane Enchantress.

The bat-king was silent for a moment before beckoning an attendant towards him. “Refresh yourselves, princesses. Bathe and join us for a feast at which my legend-keeper will reveal to you the story of your family, Enchantress, and the royal blood that flows through your veins.”

Treasure of the Twisted halls

[The seemingly endless rows of dark coloums that make up the dark city seemed to congregate into various pillars of seemingly impossible geometry, with each spire becoming more profound than the last. however, the magesty is lost on Nish's greedy eyes as he makes his way into the nearest tower. immeadiatly upon entering a small item giving off a beacon at the centre of the spire catches his eye.]

"Well now, what have we got for lil' ol' Nish eh?"

He said, leaning over to the gleaming object. Picking it up, it's pedistal slid into the earth with surprising speed as if the building itself was angry at him, yet no other traps arose. Moving the shining item over in his hands, and touching its surface, it's became apparent that the object was acctually a mirror. Beautifully crafted and adorned with sometype of odd symbols, the item gave Nish a calm feeling as he looked into it. As he slid his fingers across the surface, the glass showed no smudge marks, but instead removed the filth from Nish's fingers. Looking up from the glass, nish jumped back in fright to find a transparent, smokery looking version of himself standing in front of him.

"WHOAH WHO DA FUuuuuh what even is-"

Nish said, with his fright fleeting, he took a moment to examine the odd wisp further. It seemed to mimic his every move in unison as if it knew what Nish was going to do. pointing his finger out (with the doppelganger doing the same) Nish anxiously poked at his opposite. To his surprise, the creature fell into the floor leaving a stark black shadow that moved into Nish's own. Hearing a faint hissing sound, Nish turned around quickly to find...nothing. looking over his shoulder, he saw the familiar transparent outline of himself, still mimicing his actions.

"Bah whatever, hope yer comfey back there, cuz this is magic enough for anyone!"

He said, stowing the little mirror triumphantly into his pack, Nish felt a sharp gust of wind against the back of his neck. looking back, he found his spectre being impaled by a crude blade held by a Cloaked figure. As the shade fizzled, so too did the blade crumble into dust in the attackers hand. As it looked over to Nish, it's confusion was apparent as it tilted it's head. It's life ended quickly, and brutally as Nish buried his weapon into the cloth covered head of the attacker. Without a second thought, Nish began his journey back to the princess to uncover what he had found.

the beginning of the end pt.1

[The old knightess and the young scholar finally reached the end of the tomb, the final resting place of lord inceptron. The only thing now stood between them and the ultimate truth are four almirian sentinels, the towering undead soldiers awakened as they sensed the presence of life.]

Sentinel A: *speaks almirian* “[Who are you?]”

Sentinel B: *speaks almirian* “[whatever you are, leave…]”

Sentinel C: *speaks almirian* “[Or you can stay…]”

Sentinel D: *speaks almirian* “[…And suffer for your transgression…]”

Avelan: *pulls Penumbra’s shoulder* “These sentinels are serious… I know you are good old knightess, but four of them is too much! We should call back up or leave!”

Penumbra: *chuckles* “Are you scared Avelan? We came all this way to see a dead man and now you want to leave? The radio signal is blocked inside the tomb, we can’t call back up now…” *draws her sword* “I will handle them…”

Avelan: “This is suicide! Does stopping the swarm mean this much to you?! Forget about my artefacts! I just want the two of us get out of here alive!”

Penumbra: “I once stood by and watched the city I oath to defend burn to the ground… I lost my husband to my own foolishness and my son denied me… tell me, what kind of woman am I?”

Avelan: “You are a fine woman, Penumbra… it is just sometimes, people make bad decisions, but it wasn’t your fault!”

Penumbra: “IT WAS my fault, I made those decisions and I paid the price… I can still make things right… If the swarm can be pushed back just for a little while, cradle will have a chance to survive… I am ready to make any sacrifice to protect this planet from the swarm threat…”

Avelan: “Then, you made up your mind?”

Penumbra: *nods her head* “If I fail, you know what to do…”

[Penumbra channels what is left of her life force into her arms, she knows whatever lies behind the four almirian sentinels must be Lord Inceptron’s tomb, the goal of her final mission. The sentinels cobble up together and their shields are combined to form an impenetrable wall, pushing menacingly at the old knightess. Penumbra leaps into the air and breaks the sentinels’ formation with a ground slam of her sword, which was uncharacteristic of her usual fighting habits. Responding to Penumbra’s attack, the sentinels change up their tactics and surround Penumbra from four sides, they thrust their spears at the old knightess from four sides, leaving her with no choice but to parry frantically at their attacks. Penumbra soon finds a break in one of sentinel’s attack and jumps onto its neck, she stabs the sword into the sentinel’s vital and it collapses to the ground. The three remaining sentinels make another furious charge at Penumbra to avenge their fallen brother, Penumbra’s already battered aegis shield is shredded into pieces during the attack and she is forced to discard it. Now with only a sword left, Penumbra ducks under the charging sentinels’ legs and slashes down another. But just as Penumbra thought she almost had it, the two remaining sentinels turned around and stabbed their spear into her back, with no rear armour platings, both spears stabbed into her vitals, Penumbra was lost.]

Avelan: *voice cracks* “Old knightess! NOOOOOOO!!!!” *kneels*

Sentinel C: *speaks almirian* “[So much valour, yet so foolish…]”

Sentinel D: *speaks almirian* “[It was a pity that she didn’t born an almirian…]”

Penumbra: *coughing up blood* “…Avelan… run…”

Sentinel C: *speaks almirian* “[It is time we finish off her friend… the scholar…]”

Sentinel D: *speaks almirian* “[He loves her very much… we should spare him from his suffering…]”

[The last two sentinels pointed their spears at Avelan, ready to seal his doom. But they were interrupted by a sniper shot, it ripped through the darkness and injured one of the sentinels. To avelan’s surprise, two Gremlins emerged from the shadow where the bullet first emerged, they were Xera and Zaith: the two crimson elites that warned them about the necropolis before are now here to reinforce the Avelan.]

Avelan: *still in shock* “What, what are you fur balls doing here?! Wow, Gremlins do have conscience after all!”

Zaith: *sneers* “Save it, drama queen! Get into the tomb already, and don’t tell me you wasted those thermite explosives I gave you!”

Avelan: *takes the explosives out of his pocket* “They are still here!”

Xera: “Good, now go on…” *sees penumbra dying on the ground* “Your grandma got hurt pretty bad, you better get it done quickly or else she is a goner…”

Zaith: *takes out his bowie knife* “Alright, we will hold off the sentinels! You get to lord Inceptron and acquire the informations you need! More sentinels are coming!”

Avelan: *groans* “What… so you guys know why we are here all along?!”

Xera: *chuckles* “Heh heh, like I said, we Gremlins are mischievous by nature!” *sees the sentinels recovering* “GO egghead! Just leave the sentinels to us!” *fires at the sentinels with her rifle*

the beginning of the end pt.2

[Now with no going back, Avelan plants down the thermite explosives onto the final granite wall. With a powerful blast, the stone barrier crumbled to the ground, Avelan knows all too well that he couldn’t possibly take on an immortal king, the only option left is to negotiate. The scholar takes a deep breath and climb through the hole left behind by the bombs, what he sees was jaw dropping. A man, who is roughly three times as tall as Avelan, sits silently on his stone throne with a finely crafted buster sword leaning beside him, this is it, there is no doubt now that this man is none other than lord Inceptron himself. Lord inceptron is wearing a thick stone armor, so heavy to a point that it must be difficult for him to move, nothing but shadow could be seen inside the vents of his helmet. Avelan scans Inceptron’s whole body with his thermo sensor, Inceptron’s body is stone cold, devoid of life. Now an equal cold rose up Avelan’s spine as he realizes that the man in front of him is nothing more than a hollowed out shell of his former self.]

Inceptron: *stands up from his throne* “…Greetings, Avelan Renkens… I am Lord Inceptron, the forgotten king of cradle… I have been expecting you since the very beginning…”

Avelan: *scorns in discontent* “You knew this would happen didn’t you?!”

Inceptron: *picks up his buster sword* “Don’t think of me as a God, young scholar, I never saw this coming, I predicted, you know all too well that there is no such a thing as god in this world… I am only a man… a man like you, one with a dream…”

Avelan: *frowns* “What do you mean?”

Inceptron: “…I want you to take over my throne… inherit my legacy… become the will of Cradle… we don’t have much time… the old knightess’s life is hanging on the thread and your Gremlin allies will soon get overwhelmed… I originally intended for the old knightess to take over my throne, but you will do just fine, young scholar…”

Avelan: “What happens if I inherit your throne and become the new Inceptron?

Inceptron: *stroke his own armour* “Inside this armour, there is no flesh nor blood, only a broken dream, corroded by the stains of time… I forgot what I was and I lost my way, and that was when the swarm run wild… now this vessel needs a new dream… pure and pristine… a dream like yours…”

Avelan: “!!!”

Inceptron: “I know you, you studied hard in order to unlock the secrets of cradle… by becoming like me, you will be able to see everything that you ever dreamed of… your dream can revive the old knightess, stop the swarm’s advance… and save this world…”

Avelan: *considers and frowns* “Fine… I will do anything to save grandma Penumbra, and I will take stopping the swarm as a bonus! Now Mister ‘God’, take my dream…”

Inceptron: *pauses* “Before I take your dream… you must know this… your body will not be able to survive without it… a dream will be all that is left of you… and soon, even your dream will have to stand up against the tide of time… is this, your final decision?”

Avelan: “Yes…”

[Inceptron reaches out his hand, waiting for Avelan to touch it. As Avelan’s hand comes contact with Inceptron’s, his whole body starts to disintegrate into nothingness, Avelan knows fully what he is sacrificing here, his life as a successful geographer, a loving man and eventually a husband, but now he must leave them all behind and become something more than just a puny knight. He can feel it now, the soothing wind in the aurora isles and the cry of the beasts in the wildwood, the sun rise and the tide fall, all within Avelan’s eyes. Now fully assimilated into Incceptron’s stony armour, Avelan takes up his enormous buster sword and comes to Penumbra’s rescue. With his new found power, Avelan channels a mist of pure energy into the old knightess’s dying heart and revived her. The sentinels, seeing the presence of their new lord, retreated back into their dormant state.]

Penumbra: *gets revived* “Argh!” *gasps* “What… I came back from death… how?” *sees Avelan in his new outfit* “What! Who in the hell are you!” *picks up her sword*

Avelan: *echoes from inside the stony armour* “Heh heh, grandma Penumbra, you never saw this coming did you? Inceptron set this up… he was expecting someone to take over his throne…”

Xera: *frowns* “…No… don’t tell me…”

Zaith: *sneers* “So you are now the new lord Inceptron?! Great, Tinkinzar was counting on us to kill him!”

Avelan: *echoes from inside the stony armour* “Seems like it… I can’t feel my body anymore… but I can see everything now… the sky islands… the star drizzled plateau-”

Penumbra: *enraged* “-HOW COULD YOU AVELAN?! How could you wasted your youth trying inherit the dream of a forgotten god? You had a whole life ahead of you! How could you have ended up like THIS?!”

Avelan: *echoes from inside the stony armour* “But if I don't inherit his legacy… you will die grandma Penumbra… and I don’t want that to happen…”

Penumbra: *voice cracks* “No, I would have died gladly to stop the swarm from spreading! Why Avelan… WHY?!”

Avelan: “It is okay, old knightess, now that I am the new lord Inceptron… I can push back the swarm with my will alone… and here…” *passes his buster sword to Penumbra* “Take this blade to the dragon princess, it is called the edge of genesis… from what I can tell, Inceptron forged this sword to ward off both the light and the darkness… it will prove useful in the future, take it… I am not a big fan sword…”

Penumbra: *takes the buster sword* “How am I supposed to break this Wegner?”

Avelan: *echoes from inside the stony armour* “Just tell him that I died in a cave in…”

Zaith: “So what now Egghead? We leave the tomb and you stop swarm? How can we trust you?”

Avelan: *echoes from inside the stony armour* “You don’t have to… the reason why swarm was spreading was due to Inceptron’s own deteriorating will… now that I am here, my new will can keep the swarm in order again. For a while that is…”

Xera: “What are we talking about here, a year, a decade or a century?”

Avelan: *echoes from inside the stony armour* “I don’t know… but I will try my best to hold off the swarm…” *turns to Penumbra* “I am sorry old knightess, people make mistakes sometimes, I guess today I made a terrible blunder…”

Penumbra: *shakes her head* “It wasn’t you fault, it was mine, if I didn’t let you tag along in the first place, you would never have ended up like this…” *sobs*

Avelan: *echoes from inside the stony armour* “It is okay old knightess, there is no reason to be sad… with this new power, I can make a difference in this world… I think you should all leave now… before I become a madman… Heh heh…”

WHO ARE YOU?!
I am Avelan Renkens... your new lord...
HAH! You are even weaker than the one before you!
Perhaps... but there is something I have that the former didn't...
WHAT?!
And that is why I will succeed where he failed...
...
I have a heart... a heart big enough to contain the good and evil of this world...

Queen Estheresa

The Story Teller opened a massive tome and began to read.

In the beginning was the Cradle. And the Cradle gave birth to the Core. And from the Core a Sanctuary was born. And the Clockworks arose around the Core and Sanctuary. Finally, Havens grew to accommodate the alien races that began to populate the world.

The Story Teller flipped several more pages and found the place he was looking for.

Among these a reptilian race of arcane and magical creatures appeared. Among their kinds were salamanders, dragons, and chromalisks. Tribal in nature, ruled by monarchies, they thrived and grew in power.

Once again the Story Teller flipped through several more pages until he found the place he was looking for.

Queen Estheresa was a wise and benevolent ruler, powerful in the magical arts, and a creature of great beauty, and the salamander kingdoms prospered under her reign.

One day she was found to be with child, but she had no husband. Jealous enemies used her pregnancy against her, demanding to know the identity of the father. But queen Estheresa claimed her pregnancy was the boon of a divine goddess.

Unable to prove her controversial claim, she resigned from her throne, and found a new home amongst one of the younger more accepting races - the spiral knights. She gave birth to daughter and named her Alishiya, which meant “truth” lest anyone should ever claim that she lied about the nature of the child’s conception.

The child grew to be much like her mother – wise and powerful in the magical arts. She adopted the name “Arcane Enchantress”, and would one day take her royal place among the Halo Seven.

The Arcane Enchantress listened with head bowed. She made no reaction when the Story Teller had finished. Mawashimono placed her hand on the Enchantress’ shoulder and gently inquired, “Alishiya? Are you all right?”

It was then that the Dragon Princess noticed that the Enchantress’ shoulder were heaving as she cried silently. As her tears fell, she embraced her dear friend.

“I knew . . . I mean . . (sob) . . . I suspected . . . (sniffle) . . . but my mother never spoke of her past,” said the Arcane Enchantress between sobs.

“Knowing is better,” said the Dragon Princess . “Are you going to be okay?” she asked while gently rubbing her back.

“Yes,” said the Arcane Enchantress. “More than okay. I’m ready now, ready for what awaits us, whatever it may be.”

epilogue

[Another man, another man Penumbra loved is lost to cruel fate, first, her husband, second, her wayward son and now, Avelan. His body was never found in the throne of Inceptron, only his geo lab coat and research equipments remained. Penumbra left the Necropolis with a striken heart, feeling upset over her inability to protect those she cherished. The edge of genesis, the blade Avelan passed onto her is now the solution to the ever consuming swarm. Penumbra glanced back at the two crimson elites who came to her rescue, she couldn't help but to stay on guard and hope that the two Gremlins don't steal the blade from her.]

Penumbra: *walks pass the gate of Necropolis* "...So what are the two of you going to say to Tinkinzar now that it is over?"

Zaith: *shrugs* "Well, the mission was a success!"

Penumbra: *frowns* "Success?"

Xera: *sighs* "Yeah... the truth is, at the beginning, Tinkinzar ordered one of us to sacrifice ourselves to Lord Inceptron so that Cradle can survive. But then you and that scholar came along, so the plan changed..."

Penumbra: *frowns in disgust* "So that is your true nature! Filthy Gremlins! Avelan died because of you!"*swings her sword at Xera*

Zaith: *parries Penumbra's blade with his bowie knife* "Hey! Stop that knightess, I know he meant alot to you, but what is done is done... I think we will leave you to your own disposal now..."

Xera: "I guess we all make bad decisions in life, I will keep this one in mind next time..."

[The two crimson elites cloaked and disappeared into the shadow, leaving Penumbra behind to mourn for the death of a young man. On the way to surface, Penumbra reconsidered the whole situation, the crimson elites clinged to life for a reason, they knew all too well what is going to happen if they inherited Inceptron's legacy. Avelan Renkens is the true hero here, not her. After wrapping the edge of genesis inside a leather cloth, Penumbra leaves the blade on the stairs of the lionheart guild hall, with a letter attached to it.]

Dear Mawashimono

Inside this leather cloth lies the edge of genesis, a blade forged by Inceptron himself to sever disparity inside the fabrics of nothingness, use it in your quest to vanquish the swarm. But be noted, dragon princess, that there is no end to the swarm, if the core is to survive, then so must the swarm, just like how light cannot exist without darkness. The struggle against the swarm must go on, and you must teach those who might later enter your guild that this fight will last for an eternity and they must not give in to dispair like I did. Hope is the strongest weapon we have, stronger than the blade that I am about to give you.

And as for me, I think it is probably time for me to retire and let the next generation take over. I have done bad things in life, enough to generate a tremandous amount of guilt that could have killed a lesser woman, but I lived on, somehow. Now I must come in term with the things I did in life. My investigation is now complete, I hope things are doing good on your end, good luck.

Yours,
Penumbra Greyionne

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Avelan...
What is it, Grandma Penumbra?
When you inherited Lord Inceptron's legacy, have you ever thought that there might be other people like you, who came to this tomb before? And did the same thing as you?
That is highly probable, considering the bad security in Necropolis...
If so, then that explains everything...
Huh?
I get it now, the reason why this planet has so many diverse terrains, they are not the work of one god, they are in fact the dreams of hundreds of men and women who sacrificed their lives in the creation of this planet... Lord Inceptron is not a man, he was the manifestation of many... many beauitful and different dreams...
So at the end, there is no God... only the hearts of men... I like it, it explains everything... I will miss you old knightess... I can still see you, out there on the surface... in the fleeting wind... I hope you won't forget me...
Avelan Renkens, to me, you will never be... just a memory...

Chris and the keep

Chris shielded his eyes from the bright sun of Haven. He was promptly shoved by Archilus.

"You look like the sun is harmful Bookworm."

"I don't get out in it much, I prefer the light of the Candles."

"Of course you do."

Chris shook his head, and they went back to the apartment. When he got inside his apartment, he immediately sat down and began composing a letter. Archilus grabbed his book and looked at Chris with a quizzical look.

"Who are you writing to?"

Chris looked up. "We already talked about this."

"I'm not leaving till you tell me."

Chris rolled his eyes, "Fine, its for the Dragon Princess, She gave me a letter saying to figure out the connection between the Divine set and the swarm."

"Now I'm definitely not leaving."

Chris sighed, and finished up his letter, sending via electronic message system. Insuring that it would reach the Dragon Princess in seconds.

Dear Dragon Princess,

I have uncovered some vital information. The swarm was not a creation of the Crimson Order, but an experiment of the Owlite Scholars. Sometime before the war with the Kat Klan, the Gremlins allied themselves with the owlites and stole the prototype. Following this, the Owlite's made the Divine Cloak and Veil. They hoped to combat what their prototype had been. Unknown to them the gremlins modified it. Take care against the swarm, they strengthen allies and weaken enemies. If you can figure out a way to trick the Hive-minded swarm into treating you like an ally, you might have a much easier time finding a weakness.

Conclusion

“Fortunately, the other Special Investigators have performed beyond my expectations. We won’t need to fight the demonic source behind the Swarm after all,” said the Dragon Princess.

“But what about the Halo Seven?” asked the Arcane Enchantress.

“I’m looking forward to meeting them someday, but for now we need to return to Haven. I’ve received word of a very special delivery to the Lionheart guild hall,” replied the Dragon Princess.

Later, in the Lair of the Dragon Princess, they read Penumbra’s note silently together.

“Wow, they made quite a sacrifice to make this planet safer for us,” commented the Arcane Enchantress.

“Yes, I’d like to meet this Avelan person someday and thank him personally, as well as Penumbra,” said the Dragon Princess.

“That information that Chris obtained has high strategic value as well” said the Arcane Enchantress.

“True, and hopefully Nish will have some valuable information for us from his delving below the surface” said the Dragon Princess.

“Oh, Mawa, I’m so happy we had this adventure together. Finding out about my true identity really meant a lot to me. Thank you so much,” said Alishiya the Arcane Enchantress.

And Alishiya gave Mawashimono a big kiss on the lips. As Alishiya leaned back from the kiss with her hands still on Mawa’s shoulders, Mawa chuckled and had a kind of confused smile on her face. Alishiya, however, had a much different expression. As she leaned in slowly to kiss Mawa again, Mawa considered holding up a hand and politely declining, but she decided to just close her eyes and let it happen.

And she let everything after that happen as well.
