Okay, so in the almost 3 years that I've been playing SK, I've actually managed to hoard 60 Iron Lockboxes. I never felt like selling them but I also felt that, since I wasn't that good and didn't have that many Crowns or Energy, opening them wasn't really worth it either. But now I was wondering if I should just grind till I have 60 Silver keys and then rage open those lockboxes.

So yeah, I was wondering if there's anyone that opened a buttload of Lockboxes at some time and if they could share their experience. Can I hope for some accessories that I might actually use, or will I just get 60 Maid Headbands? :D

I actually opened 4 in a row (which is the highest I think I'll ever do consecutively) and to be honest with you I wish the selection was better, or better yet, if we had a % by item list of what we could possibly get. I got some heavy goggles, regal com unit, toasty pipe, and cool binoculars. So unless you want attention and/or dress yourself up as the worst rainbow nightmare SK has seen since the Hunter Update [not a lot of costume selection back then] then opening 60 irons is probably not for you. You can get everything cheaper on the AH.

Only redeeming items are those wildly rare prismatic items, Gen 1 Wings maybe*?, and wolver tails.

That said, can I open those boxes for you?

I saw something on the suggestions forum earlier about Breaking up Iron lockboxes into their theme variants (I.E. Regal Lock box, Dusky Lockbox, etc) and I thought that might encourage people more to open their color complimentary boxes. Irons are just too random and not enough unf.~

I say do it.

Selling them may net you money, but people telling you not to do it are almost always saying don't open them so you can buy good accessories off them for a higher price than 750 energy. This mostly come from merchants who want a profit.

I mainly play these days for these boxes. Opening them has a low chance of getting something good, but nothing is better than the feeling of getting prismatic glow eyes for 750 energy. No one would even sell for that price. Sure you pay for other boxes but that's additional stuff for costumes. Or stuff you can sell yourself.

Some good things I've gotten from constantly opening boxes.

Two military wolver tails in a row back to back
One dusky wolver tail
Prismatic glow eyes
Prismatic parrying blade
Divine scarf
Prismatic canteen

It's a roller coaster of satisfaction/dissatisfaction. So open them if you're fine with the risk :x

Honestly it doesn't seem like a very good prospect to me, but that's why I've never opened one. I'm sure someone on the forums has done/watched a "mass unboxing" of some sort.

do you value them more than other players would?

If I understand correctly, there are three possible courses of action for you:

A. Sell the Iron Lockboxes now.

B. Grind to get keys, open the Lockboxes, and sell the items therein.

C. Grind to get keys, open the Lockboxes, and keep the items therein.

You are wondering which course of action is best. It all comes down to whether you value items and grinding more or less than other players do. We can't answer this question for you, because we don't know how your values compare to other players' values.

I used to be an iron lockbox addict- I even used to mass open lockboxes on a whim

Then, everything changed when supply depots sales arrived.

A lot of the expensive prismatic/divine/volcanic things that compensate for losses have already been depot released.
Anything that's still rare is basically at risk of being released in the future.

And, even BEFORE supply depot sales, mass unlocking lock boxes was never a profitable thing.

Personal Experience: Every time i made a loss, i'd recover only a fraction of it from getting box lucky. The rest was recovered simply by being merchant..
The process repeated until I finally semi-quit the game and broke my lock box addiction.

tl;dr Don't bother opening lock boxes if you think you'll profit from it- because, in the long run, you won't.
