It seems there's always that "I'm quitting Spiral Knights, k bye tnks" threads, but I'm actually in a tough spot.
I feel like I need to quit Spiral Knights, not because lack of features or repetitiveness, but because I like that repetitive toughness; I like collecting all the weapons, I like that random interval-ratio grinding (which is ingeniously classic of MMO's to capture an audience and guess what... slot machines), and I LOVE THE ART. I play the game imagining things I could make or edit for the game, but in the end it's just a game and I can't modify it the way I

I'm an artist, it's what I like to do more than anything, but I'm reaching close to 3500 hours of gameplay. That's almost 146 days of my life invested into a game I really like. Again I really love Spiral Knights and the experience, but I need help quitting. I want to get back to my art, story, and game I want to create and develop.

Seems kinda strange, but does anyone have any advice they can give me on "how to quit"?

First step is getting rid of all your items.
*Nudge nudge*

Seriously though, you just have to slowly stop playing, do what you can so you don't see the games icon whenever you do your daily routine. Such as deleting the game from your desktop to hiding it on steam in a category-thing.
Find different games/things to keep you preoccupied, or, you can do something crazy and stay off of the computer for a few days, which is pure insanity.

Or, you can do something even more drastic, and do something in the game that you strongly dislike, while this will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth for said game, it will help with your game addiction, and you wont have the urge to play it.

That being said, another thing would be to think about all the things about the game that you dislike, don't think about the pros, just think the cons. Again, it'll leave a bad taste in your mouth, but, meh. You wanna quit anyways. So go for it.

That's all the advice i have for yah, good luck with quitting the game!

But if you do want to be charitable, my IGN is my forum name

If you want to quit forever, then delete your knight. If you want to quit for a while then uninstall the game (or delete the bookmark if you play on a browser.)

If you can, try working in a place or area where you never played spiral knights (or anything unrelated to what you are trying to do) to avoid the urge. If you're like me and have a messy desk, try cleaning it to create an atmosphere where you can focus.

So to start, just grasp your motivation or inspiration (No clue where that comes from), a good place to work, and then focus. (If you really do not want to quit suddenly, just limit the time you play or set a certain amount of time, maybe daily, of how long you want to work on other things, like art.)

Glowupball has some good

Glowupball has some good ideas. Reorganizing your desk or room or work area are all great ways to go about it.

Try getting wrapped up in a fun new project? Easier said than done, yeah, but you're into games and art as it is so maybe there's a spark waiting inside one of the things you wanna work on. Find it and get crackin! Nothing wrong with checking back, but if you wanna cut back, keep that in mind for sure. D:

This is the easiest way from my experience:
Uninstall the game
Your account can still exist and if you ever want to play again you can, since it will still be there untouched. A true person to quit the game is deleting your knight, but that's a lot to get rid of. I'd call it a long leave. You DO still have the forums to browse around, which I think is fairly entertaining, and if you see something interesting (a fascinating update for say, no, I'm not talking about the gunner update) you can always come back to poke your head around, then uninstall it again.

Start drawing art for the game you want to develope.

Soon you will be lost in your art, and hopefully, limit the amount of times you accidentally draw a mewkat.

Work on the game, focus on it 110%, and press that "/ignore" on Paintool.

And don't come to the SK forum.

Or do, every once in a while, and get me hooked to your mewkat-less game.

Create.

Create something original. If you want, find a sandbox game where you can create whatever it is you are thinking of. Brainstorm with people, write all of that down.

You don't need to necessarily quit Spiral Knights to return to art. Reboot your art and show it off.

Hi

I'm a game developer too^^.

Concentrating yourself on making games is very hard, I quit playing SK for 2 years because I had to focus myself on my little projects but in this year I came back and played so much that I lost track of what I really wanted to do.

As an advice it's best as people above suggested is to Unistall the game.

2- Another piece of advice is that you need to have the will power to be fully capable of being concentrated on the game,i usually get very distracted by everything on my computer while working on my game ,so It's for the best to search what you want to do and take a piece of paper and start to plan or draw very quick sketches of what you have in mind.

3-Don't give in temptation, no matter how hard you wish to play again think about how successful can your game be if you focus on it.

4- If you are making a game inspired by SK I personally believe that its fine if you play the game but instead of only playing it for fun start to analyze how game works such as character movement, animations, textures and effects this will help you get an understanding on how games work and how you want your game to look like.

5-Have a time table in which you know that today I will work on 3d modelling, tomorrow I will work on concept arts ecc... so that you will know how far you are progressing and also how much free time you will have to play or do other things.

By the way what type of game/project are you making :) ?

Thanks for the suggestions

Thanks for the suggestions and help you guys. I think uninstalling might be the best; I invested quite a sum of money into the game, and would rather not delete my history. I'll give it some time and thought.

Dreamless - I have a story and concept for a 2D platformer, but I wanted to carry over some of the replayability factors that games like Spiral Knights and Pokemon have (wide selection of gear that doesn't tell you how to play the game, customizability, exploration, etc.) I don't want to share the meat of my details, but right now I'm working on character design and other art elements. I'm also trying to look into programs that will let me make my dream. I'm working between pharmacy, college, and real life so I feel quite busy and look to SK as my stress outlet.

So basically you want to make that one game... what was it called? It was just like that other game.

Ah, Rogue Legacy.

A Rogue-like 2D platformer with loads of randomization and choices for upgrades.

I (and probably others) would like to see your game when you've reached a point where you can release a beta version. :)

Good luck! ^_^

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

after uninstalling the game, make sure that you actually need to download something before you can start playing it. if it's in steam it's no problem, if you have the client like me delete the install exe. waiting for download completion and finding something else to do is really something that helps in not restart playing.
and find something you like to do while you're at it. after a while you will find yourself unintersted in returning. personal experience.
