So you may be thinking, how is this possible? Well, read on and find out!

So you have just joined the game. You have heard of this wonderful title, "Vanguard". And you want to achieve this title as fast as you can. Well, I am here to tell you how!

You are a knight, crash landed on this planet Cradle. And immediately you are dumped into your first mission. Don't worry, you will complete this easily. Once you have completed this first mission, you will arrive at the Rescue Camp. The next steps are easy - just follow through the missions and storyline until you reach haven.

So you have reached haven? No? Please reach haven before continuing.

Once you are in haven, you are literally two steps away from being a Vanguard.
First step: build up a great friends list. This isn't completely necessary, but it is certainly a good idea
Second step: hang around in haven town square, talking to all your friends, and generally commenting on... Anything.
Third (and last) step: Spam the Auction House as often as possible to look for all the overpriced gear that you don't want so you can buy it anyways. You just want to look like you are busy. (credit to Bamzalot)

Congratulations! You are now officially a Vanguard!

DISCLAIMER: this is basically a rip on all spiral knight's vanguards that hang out in haven.

Maybe if there was something to do besides standing in Haven, talking idly.

You missed one step.

Third Step: Spamming the Auction House as often as possible to look for all the overpriced gear that you don't want to buy anyways. You just want to look like you are busy.

inaccurate

You're attempting to critique all vanguards. But most of my vanguard friends don't fit your stereotype.

!!!!

Deck hand: "Captain Ozlo!!! We have detected an energy signature within our sensor range!"

Ozlo: "What? I thought this part of the space was unexplored!"

Deck hand: "It is, oh no, it is an enemy ship, and it has launched a Forum bot into our hull!"

Ozlo: "Can you confirm the name of the enemy ship, or atleast the name of their captain!?"

Deck hand: "Yes, the scan data is in, the ship is MLS (morai legion's ship) Sirius, and their captain's name is tweeter!!!"

Ozlo: "TWEETER?!! No, I thought I beat the guy, I saw his ship blown into pieces with my own eyes!!!"

Computer: "WARNING, ENEMY FORUM DROID PRESENT IN HULL A, please eliminate with extream prejudice."

Ozlo: "MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Midnight: "I am here admiral, what can I do to help?"

Ozlo: "Get your troll cannon ready, soldier, an enemy forum droid is inside our hull, destroy it or the bot will rip this ship/forum a new one!"

Midnight: "SIR! YES SIR!!! That robot won't stand in the way of FREEDOM!!!"

Not sure if I want those names and mine together.

@Bopp this was to poke fun at those who DO stand around doing this.

am i the only one

am i the only one disappointed by the title? :/

i hoping that this was a comprehensive step-by-step guide to achieving Vanguard rank in the most efficient way possible solo--would have been cool if someone figured it out. it's not as straightforward as you'd think.

things are especially different now that weapons have rank requirements so you can't run around T2 carrying acheron and blitz needle.

It's really baffling to me

It's really baffling to me how people are so upset by Vanguards checking auctions frequently and hanging out with friends in Haven. :s I still play in the Clockworks more than most knights anyway, but a girl's gotta take a break once in a while.

Like I had some Defender come chew me out for chatting with somebody about anime while I watched an auction on short. Why is having fun a bad thing, honestly? I'm asking to gain some perspective.

Is the OP actually saying that having a big friend list is a bad thing?

@Addy

I am mainly trying to poke fun at hoe *most* vanguards *seemingly* act. I have no fault with it actually. I do it all the time.
As for the friends list.. I have nothing against a big friends list. The more the merrier :D
Also, what anime?

@Momofuku Yeah, that would be nice... And it would be really hard. If I truly had to give advice to people, it'd be this - just stick with calibur/cobalt the whole way through. You will save a little, and that can be put into orbs. Not much of a difference, but a little push is always nice. Once you have become vanguard, you can start on all the stuff you want - then you can vendor the calibur/cobalt stuff if you want.

I'd probably advise doing Wolver path, especially if planning to do all these missions solo without assist.

I would most likely farm at Snarbolax for a while (wearing Wolver Set + Flourish + Blaster + Horned Owlite Shield)
-> applying funds to buying a Fireburst Brandish, then farming Roarmulus Twins for a while (Dusker Set + Fireburst Brandish + Needle Shot + Wise Owlite Shield) which lets you vendor Quicksilver Helm/Mail for 20 tokens (every 7 runs) or farm Royal Jelly Palace with the same set (preferring not to get Nightblade since it will be useless during latter 8-X rank missions due to excessive fiend/undeads).

It's all to set up getting Skolver Set Lv1 + Combuster Lv1 + Strike Needle lv10 + Grey Owlite Shield Lv1 to solo FSC with. I can see Vog being a potential alternative to Skolver, but I wouldn't think it's a better alternative to just learning FSC patterns.

sleep is forbidden (not seerus).

Pretext: watch YouTube tutorials on bossfights.

Welcome to SK. You will not be sleeping for the next 25 hours.

See those missions? Run them, speed your way through with the swords you'll be provided. Take the firecracker prior to snarby and bomb out the levels. Follow the cobalt line to 3*, craft brandish to nightblade.

Heat nightblade by speed-running Rjp 20 times. Vendor the weapon on AH for a cheap price. Decide if you're switching to wolver or not. If so you need to find cheap dusker gear within an hour or you lose the challenge and need to proceed to 48-hour vanguard.

Your three items that you are now focusing on are: Nightblade, cobalt armor, and cobalt helm. The only other potential addition you'll be making to your armory will be an autogun for volcanic pepperbox. If you pulled off locating dusker in an hour, congrats. You now get to wear that while grinding 4* missions for the recipes, orbs, and crystals you'll need for upgrading nightblade prior to all the other gear. Try to make friends while grinding.

Once you reach 5* HOH, start arcading to FSC. Your upgrades focus on armor before the night blade.
With luck, you've hit 22 hours with 4* gear all-around.

The next 3 hours are your ultimate challenge.

You need 3 friends to help you through the remaining content, as the next series of missions involve walking a lot, if no walking then thinning out enemies will be a pain without extra people. During this time you have to find enough crystals (lmao, yeah, sure) and orbs to craft a 5* armor, helm, and weapon if I recall correctly, the shield is inconsequential.

You and your allies will have to dredge all the way through gauntlet in 2-2-and-half hours, this means no pee breaks and I hope you're feeding through a tube. Gauntlet will be taking 30 minutes of your time at minimum unless you have a dream team of vanguards.

Now go take down fsc in 30 minutes. Split the team into two groups on either side of the sprite level. Have a bomber with EV to group slag spawns for blitz/brandish blasts. And don't try for crowns.

Vanaduke should be able to be taken down with the tried and true shivermist+ autoguns combo. Help the bomber water the place. And do your best not to hit the floor.

Congrats, you wasted 25 hours of your life to brag about being a vanguard in a day.
