(Just say, "Signed" to agree)

It's not really sensible to have to pay to change our names, seriously, is it really worth it? Name changing should be free!
Say for instance, you made your name and, at the time, it sounded funny. However, you start the game and, you recognize that the name isn't really good, no matter how awesome you look, it sounds stupid and dumb (redundancy FTW). So now your stuck with a name like: Saggymctooty, or Buttsmellio.
So this is why we need free name changing, it's stupid to have to pay to change your name, come on! This is a game, not real life. So, designers of Spiral Knights, MAKE NAME CHANGING FREE!

It's basically the same with color and accessories, cause why would you want to spend money on something in a game world that doesn't even DO anything to IMPROVE your character?

Name Changing: No, Making it hard to change your name is needed because if it was free nothing stops toxic players from just joining and spamming or just ruining the expierience being kicked then joining back with a new name and costume and doing the same thing (happens in Steam games)
Color Change: Agree, along with more colours, mainly because its annoying not looking good in my frosty gear and blue gear with a red personal colour (other than my metal sonic costume)
Accessory: i dont really see why not, mainly just make it free to remove the accessory without losing it, what if i didnt know that my helm mounted display floats in mid air on my dragonscale helm, obtaining the accessory should be paid for though be it through crowns or through energy

No. >_> <_< >_>

If you're dense enough to create a ridiculous name for your knight, you should either deal with the consequences of having to be referred to as that, delete your knight & start over with a different name, or pony up the dough to change your knight's name.

Being allowed to recover accessories from your items is a privilege, as is the ability to change your knight's default color. The devs & staff don't have to let you do EITHER of these things, so you should consider it a gift that it's allowed at all. >_>

With that in mind, I request that this thread be sent to the graveyard, as it is not only in the wrong forum, but also because of requests being made that clearly & obviously will not be fulfilled. :/

I do think that accessories should be possible to remove without paying and colors should be available as equipable items so that one could say, start with blue and purchase red for 50k, then be able to switch freely between the two. But as for names, no. The two above explained why.

Those are called "crown sink". They are in the game to let OOO control the game economy (and prevent crown from dropping too much).

This is what I'd agree and disagree with.

Color changing: Agreed

I feel like we should need to pay crowns to change our colors, but not 50,000 crowns. What if I change my personal color, then decide it really doesn't look as good as it did in the preview? That's 50,000 crowns, then another 50,000 to change the color back! What could I do with that 100,000 crowns instead? Buy recipes, auction hunt, trade it in for energy, upgrade the guild hall, and so much more.

I think the price should be at least cut in half, if not more.

Accessory removing for free: Not really...

If we could remove our accessories any time we wanted for free, then put them back on something else, destruction could follow. There is a reason why destroying accessories is free. If we could buy an accessory, then put it on anything whenever we wanted, that accessory would lose value fast. This would then harm the merchants, and then the merchants would be unable to stabilize the economy.

Or something like that, anyways.

Free name change passes: NO!

Here is a direct quote from my imaginary Chaos-Striker Clone: "Let me just go to this party and start Trollaris spamming, I got kicked! Fine, I'll change my name from "Totallyawesomenightofthebuttorder," to "Jempworshiperlonglivecontri." Yes! Now I can Trollaris spam the same party and no one will know!"

It's just not right and should not happen free of charge.

I agree with the color

I agree with the color change.
Free accessory removal and name change are very debatable though, because they would have a significant impact on economy and playing in general.
Actually, I always felt like buying a color should grant you the right to switch to it whenever you like. This would encourage players to try every color too!

Hideo, go back to work on Metal Gear solid V: the phantom pain and STOP playing spiral knights! And if you want to change your name, I am sure Konami can cut you some slacks and buy you 2K CE needed for a name change.

Er...

I still remember when none of these things existed. The game was still fun then. :\

The best thing a F2P game can do to make money, in my own opinion, is have the mandatory items be rather cheap to acquire, but the player-customization items to be fairly expensive. In order to play the game, you don't need to change your name, or personal color, or switch accessories around. Name change passes and an ability to unbind accessories are both fairly new mechanics.

But as for my opinion on the three problems listed:

No to name change passes being free. You are defined by your name in Spiral Knights. Name change passes already confuse a whole lot of people as is.
No to detaching accessories for free. We can take them off via the remove accessory tickets now and keep them, and I'm fairly sure this makes the tickets unbound.
Yes to color changing, but not for free. Like others have said, it would be neat to be able to buy personal colors and switch between them as you feel fit. Personal colors bought from Vatel would be player-bound, and once a color is equipped it is player-bound. This would open doors for special event colors, and adding them to prize boxes at low percentages.

What Krakob said. There should be a feature where you could switch knight colors freely. As for removing accessories and name changing for free: No.

Vindicar - I know we don't

Vindicar - I know we don't have the statistics on such things, but is it really a crown sink if no one uses it? Compare it the recent 5* Radiant Crystal drought. Supply Depot has them for 700 energy, but does anyone really buy them?

I really like my personal color, but I can't enjoy all the costumes OOO has to offer just because I'm limited to one. Imagine the Scenario when OOO first released Hunter gear. Green was nice for knights with green and yellow colors like me, but people with clashing colors really disliked that promo (amongst other horrible odds). Colors should still be a sink, and if people were compelled to buy every color out there, they'd spend well over 1 Million in crowns. Having them equippable like colors would give people more options and compulsion to buy promos that they can relate to.

Also I like Fangel's idea with promo personal colors. Imagine! Personal colors black & white.

Free color changes?

I'd totally go with Krakob's idea, so I can always have the proper color for every one of my costumes.

necessities free, luxuries not

I agree with key parts of Fangel's post.

From the customer's point of view, the ideal free-to-play game would have all necessities available to free-to-play players. It would then charge players (either in money or in large amounts of time) for luxury items --- particularly items that have only a cosmetic effect.

In this sense, Three Rings is doing things exactly correctly. Stay the course.
