So, I've spent many days thinking about this, so here goes my theory on how things will play out in SK. First, I'm going to go to the beginning of the game.
Some Insight
First of all, Morai Wars, may mean Moirai, or the Fates from Greek Mythology. However, there is also another possibility. Morai may be Morea, which is from the Despotate of the Morea. It was the last territory in the Byzantine Empire, or, as far as my information and badly coordinated research goes, an empire that was from the Roman Empire or formed after the fall of it. Speaking of the fall of the Roman Empire, the idea of a knight was popularized after the fall of the Roman Empire. Andreas Palaeologos, the last official Roman Emperor of the Roman Empire when the Empire itself fell, hid in Morea. This is, of course, after many wars and whatever, Morea was the last of the last. But, it was invaded and the Emperor himself fled to the papal states which you probably only know because of today's Vatican City. Anyways, this heavily correlates with the storyline of Spiral Knights. Mr. Man and his crew (the Emperor) flee to Cradle (the papal states) after their homeland (Morea) was invaded or such in the Morai War (the war between Rome and whatever. Laziness calls for minimal research). NOW, back to the storyline, because, that ^^ had nothing to do with what I will talk about next.
Gremlins and the Undead
Note, this whole theory is based on Herex making the Swarm and that the Artifact has to do with making the Swarm. When it comes down to relating two monster groups together, the biggest connection by far is between the Undead and Gremlins. How? Retrodes and Gun Puppies. Well, Gun Puppies are kind of hard to prove, so just Retrodes. These mechanical monsters are clearly Zombies from the Undead Family, pretty self-explanatory. So, why are Retrodes just Zombies? Well, we know the Swarm has destructive properties beyond anything else, so, what do you think about when it comes to genocide in the Spiral Knights Universe? The closest thing would have to be the Kataclysm. Think about it. If you were about to become the most powerful species in the world, yet, the Kats, with a chance to completely destroy a species, stands in your way. The Gremlins would definitely either try to destroy the Kats or harness their power. Also, know other Monster Families haven't been tested so much and been converted into mechanical monsters. And, since the Owlites, the biggest enemy of the Kats, are closely associated with elemental things, it is no coincidence the Gremlins just randomly decided to use weapons that use elemental damage. But, things still make no sense. If the Gremlins have the Swarm, they could easily just wipe out the Kats at any time. Over the game, you see tid bits of Swarm, but really, not a whole lot, even in some of the Swarm levels. So, what does this mean? The Gremlins have gotten one ingredient of the Swarm, but the real power comes from something the Kats had or have. Possibly the books. And so, the Gremlins basically are the prime enemy of Kats, just for power through Swarm. Also, even Gremlins have possibly been experimenting with Zombies over 100 years ago, as seen in the Ghost in the Machine, showing just what enemies the two families make.
The Order of the Firestorm Citadel and the Fiends
Speaking of wars, let's look at Vanaduke's overall reign. He has some basic control over Slimes (RJP) as well as many undead elements besides Kats. And...Trojans. Fiends have Trojans in their family, but, really, do you ever see them a lot with Devilites? Sometimes, but, the Firestorm Citadel has more Trojans than most fiends. Let's look at a certain Scenario Room, the one where you summon a Trojan. For those who have never seen it, it is basically a room in the Devilite-based Clockwork levels where you press five buttons using statues to summon a Trojan. Right in the room is a module saying "5 Ways to Make Your Boss Happy." Of course it would make the boss happy, I mean, their job is to summon Trojans. But...why would a Devilite Boss be happy about just ONE resurrection. They should have whole armies of them...if they all didn't belong to Vanaduke himself. So, Trojans are scarce in the Devilite world, and the one place where you see tones of them belongs to another force, Vanaduke's overall force. Also, the fact that there are no Devilites in FSC shows you that Vana and the Devilites aren't just friends borrowing Monsters. So, therefore, the Devilites decide to switch to Tortodrones for power.
FSC and Beasts
We will get back to Devilites, but first, what do Beasts have to do with anything? Besides the fact that a Wolver or something related to Wolvers happened to turn Vana into a monster, there is a sort of other link. Silkwings. Silkwings are related to Greavers, and Greavers are Fiends. But, where do you see Greavers the most? Arguably with the Undead and Trojans if you think about it. And if you remember, Trojans belong to Vana, so, Greavers, possibly, are with Vana. And what do Silkwings do? They heal Jellies, Undead, and Fiends such as Trojans, making it also a prime ally of Vana. But, what do they also heal? Wolvers. Yup. Wolvers have some sort of pact with Vana. I mean, just look at Snarby and his levels. Unlike any other Beast level, it contains Zombies, part of the Undead Family, and part of the part of the Undead Family related to Vanaduke. Anyways, there is one thing that still bothers me. Snarby isn't connected to FSC like RJP palace is, as shown through those elevator looking things at the ends of the boss fights. You'd think that a thing as powerful as the Snarbolax would have its own elevator thing? Well, I'll get to that later. All we know is that Beasts have something to do with Vana.
Gremlins and Wolvers
So, here's where two giant forces clash into insanity. Looking at Aurora Isles, Wolvers have lived a happy life. But, one place, Jigsaw Valley, not so much. Is it much a coincidence that where Gremlins and Constructs in Jigsaw Valley, cutting down trees and such, there are no Wolvers, but in Aurora Isles where there are no Gremlins and barely any Constructs, Wolvers live happily? Also, those little Scenarioish Rooms with cut down trees and Lumbers, there are little to no Wolvers. Snarbolax's lair is infamous for getting even the mightiest Veteran Knights, and yet you, you little Soldier or so is able to deal with it. Why is that? Simple. Gremlin interference and Constructs have weakened the lair and Snarby himself. You can see this by the amount of Gun Puppies and Lumbers, which is a little bit more than usual when it comes to Beast Levels. So, by the time you get there, the forces have already been weakened (this may also be why Vana never decided to take control of the area). Also, you can most commonly see Tortodrones in Beast levels, and since they probably have to do with Gremlins, they may have been sent to kill Wolvers. Just think about it. There are barely any types of Wolvers, and they are constantly ridiculed for being the easiest enemies. Why is this? Maybe they have been weakened by Gremlins?
Gremlins and Jellies
Gremlins love experimenting. Jellies have been experimented on a lot, as seen in Compound 42 and in the Ironclaw Munition place. So, why Jellies? As seen in Gremlins and Wolvers, Gremlins probably hate Wolvers. Let's say, they did, and for some reason wanted to wipe them out. Jellies are the perfect candidate for doing so, for they inflict Piercing and are resistant to it. I would also do things like that if I hated Wolvers. But, by doing this, I'm pretty sure the Gremlins may have sparked up a war between Vana.
More Swarm and a Bit of Crimson Order
As seen in the Swarm levels, the Swarm can easily destroy things and possibly buff things too. By dispatching the Swarm in the Clockwork levels of extremeness, Herex can easily note the efficiency of it. But, how were these levels made. I'd say the Red Roarmulus Twins were made by the Crimson Order, and by putting the Swarm there, Herex could destroy a big creation of his enemies. I mean, the Crimson Order, as shown in OCH created the Twins, and the factory's level in OCH is unknown, much like the levels in Red Roarmulus Twins (I think). Overall, I have no idea.
Battle Sprites
A little tid bit right here. Why can the Collector take many Veteran Knights hostage yet is defeated by a low-level Knight? Well, in the mission in which Herex steals the core, he could have nabbed some Sprites in the lab, I mean, the Collector's job was to do that. Well, the Gremlins lost interest in Sprites, I guess, and therefore weakened the Collector and used its armor and technology for other purposes. Also, Collector shoots out jelly bombs, from Jellies, showing other signs of Jelly experimentation.
Many of my ideas have yet turned up blank, and there are many unanswered questions that I will try to answer by thinking and updating.
