Because these things take time and effort to make. It's not too much but it's enough to actually make it worth my time and not get me drowned in commissions.

There's not enough art of the noble elevator.

Reference picture's here, 32 colors looks good, I think... 64x64 pixels would be right, with dithering.

Would it work to have the background (everything that isn't the elevator) just be transparency/white? Where "the elevator" refers to everything that can be seen at the end of every level.

Sounds possible indeed! That'd be 400e, although I'd like to charge another 50e for removing the background, so 450e in total.
I think 32 colours might be much for this, as it basically only consists of five-six base colours (the blue in the lights, the two reds in the skull picture, the yellow on the frame+some darker variants, and a bit of iron-y grey). I could make it in fewer colours to begin with, or I could reduce the colour count to less after having made the pic so that you can choose several variants.

Lastly, would you like me to lower the quality of the public version or even not publish it publicly at all?

Side note: I don't think I'll be able to get to work until Saturday, school's closing up and I have celebrations to participate in and stuff!

450e sounds great, and you've got a pretty good point for the number of colors.

I've got no motive to keep the elevator all for myself, so full quality for whoever is fine with me.

Here's a better way to do

Here's a better way to do this(it's better because it's FREE!):

Step one: Take a picture you desire to modify.

Step two: Open the picture in Irfanview(there maybe other ones that have photo editing features but I know of this one only).

Step three: Go to Image>Effects>Effects Browser(By default,Irfanview has it's own effects browser but you can find more in the website).

Step Four: Choose from the tall list of effects and adjust the effect intensity as you desire.

Step Five: ???

Step Six: PROFIT!!!

Here are some examples I made with Irfanview:

-Example 1
-Example 2
-Example 3
-example 4
-Example 5

If you didn't like the results then you can just browse the internet for other apps.

REMEMBER! Free is always better than paying. ;)

It's great, thanks! :D

Be those other options as they may, they're just filters. There's plenty of mistakes that could be made that a computer isn't going to catch. If you want everything to line up nice and neatly, or want to deviate at all from the screenshot, those things very likely aren't gonna cut it.

Let me just go find some more crowns, and I'd love to get another one. :p

You can indeed do similar things using just filters, but you're losing out on a lot. For example, the "pixelize" effect you showcase does not allow manual adjusting of palette or resolution. Filters don't really give a pixel art style, either. There's a LOT of redrawing involved when making these pictures, and as Possiblespy said, you can't change anything with filters. Heck, your filter doesn't even seem to use a consistent palette. There are way many shades of everything.

I'll make an upscaled version of the indexed/resized version of the elevator later today, so you can compare in web browsers later today.

Edit: I have now made an upscaled version of the merely indexed/resized version of the elevator.
Here's what you can do with just filtering. Bear in mind that just this picture still required some editing and it wasn't as simple as just applying a filter.
Here's what you can do if you know how to properly draw pixel art.

Each to their own! Either way, I would appreciate if you would not insult my art. Yes, it's a matter of opinion but you stated that filtered pictures are objectively better than my things simply because one can make them for free Irfanview and that feels kind of rude.

@OP

I didn't insult, just told the ppl to try the free methods first since free is always better.

"Always?" That must be why Prismatic Bolted Vees are the height of fashion, combining the popular prismatic style with being practically free?

Moving on, the giant boss tokens seem almost as underrated as the elevators did. Reference .png's here, the same color/size/dithering/usage as before should be fine.

For the background, transparent again would be nice, ideally including the glowing gear symbol on the ground?

@Dahall
I think Possiblespy summarised why that argument is incredibly bad quite well so I won't comment more on that.

@Possiblespy
Roger that! I believe the same price as last time should be right.

@Da business man

I believe you forgot to specify conditions for a pictures resolution. What if someone wanted a 1920x1850 picture?

Then it's a silly request that will, because of obvious reasons, not be fulfilled.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

@Dahall
By that logic, it's better to steal stuff. Which...I guess couldn't be the best idea...?

But I see what you're saying. All the same, you cannot achieve nearly as good effect with filters. It doesn't qualify as art; you just took the picture and painted/filtered over it.

Also, drawing a picture that huge resolution would be like painting a picture the size of the Great Wall o' China. That's...3552000 pixels. Go ahead and use a filter if you must have a picture that big, or scale up a pixel art. It's up to you! ^.^

@Krakob
These aren't bad! May I ask how you learned how to do this? Or is that a secret? :P As a budding pixel artist, I'm always looking for ways to expand my knowledge.

I've been doing pixel art every once in a while ever since I started making games, which is, I think, more than four years ago now. I started out in the sprite editor of Game Maker. I can't say I have gone much further, though. I usually just use Paint.NET and a bit of Photoshop sometimes. I definitely wish I could be arsed learning Graphics Gale and I most certainly recommend you to do so, as it's probably the best image editor directed at pixel art around.

If there's any tutorial I can recommend, it's most certainly this one (by the brilliant mind behind Spelunky). But as it usually is, experience is the best way to learn. Anyway, the tutorial will probably teach you more than I can so I think there's no need to write more in this post. Just read that, practice, and try to catch your errors while also observing what other artists do.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Aug I had a browser hic-up and it killed my post. This is a summation of what I said:

Thank you for the guide link. I've already read an old version of that guide before, but I forgot about the tablet part. Also, Graphics Gale looks useful, but at the same time I'm perfectly happy with Gimp. (This is also because the engine I'm using, Anura, is able to update on-the-fly every time I update the sprites. This works better because then once I get the sprite working properly, I don't have to re-create the animation frames or anything in the engine.)

Also, I might pay for a commission some day. Even if I'm already a pixel artist, I'm not afraid to support your commission...stand? Thread? Thing-a-ma-bob?

Could I have my character

Could I have my character stand inside a bright-ish, snowy background? I'll also pay for fixes and dithering.

Here is my knight:
