Ok, so here's the thing. I logged on today and was bored in the RR and none of my friends were on, so I decided to do the prestige mission for the day, Assault on machine shop 13. And I thought, why is this music here? I have better music. So I started to play my own music with just the sound on, on SK. Eventually I got bored of my own music and decided to turn it off. By that time I had reached the mini boss fight for that mission. I began to run around killing stuff and all I heard was, Smack... crash, vroom, whoo, vroomp, dong, kling!, dink, shhh, vroom, boom boom boom! And the whole way through, even when I died, my knight was completely silent. Its so ridiculous, I don't belive our knights are so tough that when we knocked dead by a giant futuristic laser beam, we don't even grunt. My idea is, when you take damage, your knight will either grunt, goran, or go Ahh! And not a long, nice, Ahhhhh. I mean AHHHHHHHH! (Like when your on fire) they will alos, ugh, ow, uff and puff. Also when your low on health make it so you can hear your heart beat and your knight starts breathing heavily.
WOW! We have tough knights.
I also like how our Knights are not dead either. They are just on the floor, blinking as if they only took a hard hit to the head from a stray ball. Not major, but still painful.
So no thanks, -1.
@Cetren
Don't do that to Fehzor. Suck it up or else you'll pay. It's almost as bad as the time I disregarded Luguriu.
And I like my Knight being silent. It makes the game feel retro. They would probably end up my those of RotMG. (AKA bad and annoying)
Yes, I am aware that I am not loved. Thank you for not using pictures of gifs to express this, and for not calling me an idiot directly. I really appreciate these things. Fortunately for me, the suggestions forums- or any forums for that matter- are not entirely democratic and are certainly not a popularity contest of some sort.
When I was twelve or perhaps thirteen, I played the first Kingdom Hearts. My cousin walked in, and the first thing she noticed was that the character was constantly making grunting noises and yelling about, and she commented on this in the most cynical manner.
But really, she was right- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5HADV0hJM4#t=220
Listen to that. Is that really what you want to hear? After a while you just tune it out, and get over it. In a game like Kingdom hearts, it makes sense- all of the characters are just that.. characters. In a game like Spiral Knights, we are all just Spiral Knights-- literally the same character plot wise, to say the least.
Aside from that, the feel of Spiral Knights does not really require this. It's incredibly cartoonish, and making the knights yell in pain constantly as we force them to explore the clockworks doesn't do this feel much justice. In Kingdom Hearts, it serves to make Sora feel more human, and to make it feel more serious to counteract the bit where you're exploring Disney worlds. In Spiral Knights, we have the cartoony death noise, which really makes the game a lot less serious. This makes sense, seeing as to that Spiral Knights is a casual experience. People like my cousin could enjoy Spiral Knights if they enjoy anything at all, even if they play very few or even no video games.
I agree, but your thinking it a little over what I was thinking, I was thinking a little heartbeat every now and then when you have 1-5% health and I agree with the cartoony knockout noise though, I love the sound of Doosh! Im saying I want more of that, when monsters spawn maybe a little dramatic music and a small gasps. Mabye when you fight a boss and as the boss dies your party lets out a collective sigh of relief. It was kind of like that time a long time ago, when NPC's were like robots, add a little movement, give them life, boom! Its a bit not as weird ya know?
Who here remembers when using the Faust made the knight say "UGH" in every attack? I do, and I don't miss it a bit.
I really, really, really like not being entirely "human" in this game (what we even are is a nice ?? that I'd like to keep that way), and not having a face with an obvious mouth/nose is also something I like. There was an update a while back that derped the noises for Faust and Obsidian Edge - weird noises, very grunt-like, could be heard when those blades were swung. This was rapidly fixed. These noises just seemed out of place, considering the rest of SK.
(if you're curious about the date/details of the sword derp).
However, it would certainly be a nice option for many players.
So: I would say have a bunch of body-modifier type Usables to modify your knight's voice - deep, high-pitched, echos, solid, feminine, masculine, animalistic growls, etc.
But you would have the option to mute "Knight Vocals" somewhere in the options menu - both (or either) your own as well as those of other players.
I'd rather skip the corny being hit noises.
