Hi, Lesserfruit once again. I have a simple question today. Will this game ever be shut down? I may have asked a similar question in the past, but never to anyone on the team or to anyone who had actual info on it. So, as a person of considerable wealth, I'd like to know before I invest on a dying game. This may also concern others who have spent plenty more than I on this wonderful game, and we'd all like to know the same question's answer. So please, oh admins of SK. Will you ever hit the killswitch?
A question to the game developers.
The game will be shut down. That doesn't mean it will be shut down anytime soon.
Disney's ToonTown online MMO lasted for several years, but even with Disney funding it it eventually died. Dedicated players have started to try to bring it back though.
Spiral Knights isn't going to be shut down anytime soon, there are simply too many plans for the game's future for the developers to give up now. In fact, all MMO games only have a limited lifespan. For smaller and more unknown games, that lifetime is typically shorter. The way you increase the lifespan is by spending money on the game. :)
The moment I spend money on the game, I'd rather Spiral Knights gets more growth and development out of it than merely more lifespan. It's somewhat ludicrous to (want to) buy more promotional items just to get more of that same thing, it's unhealthy and stale for the game, the devs and the players once it hits a long stretch. And that stretch has been achieved long ago.
I've been asking to myself wheter or not the game would get unplugged in the near future for this exact reason.
I think at the moment the game has some future. It's got new content coming (supposedly) and weekly events (that may be repetitive), but what I'm curious is "Will I be able to enjoy this game for the next ten years?" At the moment many players are quitting because they see no future in it. I see a glimmer of a spark, but sparks need something to start a fire.
pretty much every MMO will eventually die out. it's no use to say if the game will shut down, it's only a matter of time.
in this case, rumors of the death of the game have been here for a while. so, I think it will move on for quite a while.
lastly, if you want an aswer from the admins/developers, support mail is the way to go. you can tecnically ask for a developer answer there.
