Hi.

...

So I've recently reinstalled windows 7 on my PC. I did this so that I could remove all previous data that I had instead of sitting through and removing everything. Of course, this included Spiral Knights and steam. So after I did this, I went about my business reinstalling things like antivirus stuff and et cetera. Finally, I reinstalled steam and eventually Spiral Knights.

Then things got weird...

Instead of describing the events that occur, I recorded it so that you could visually see it. (Excuse the watermark)

This isn't just for spiral knights. I've recently tried to play another games called "StrongHold Kingdoms." Everytime that i attempt to install it, I get this message:

"There is a problem with Directx. Please connect support."

This leads me to believe that when I got rid of everything with the reinstallation, I lost my directx files. So I came here to confirm it. Do you believe I need Directx? If so, I would appreciate a download link. Do I not need directx? Then I would like your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks for reading!

Did you format your disc? Did you even backup all your other files before formatting?

DirectX is a crucial programming interface between the gpu(s) and programs in Windows and it doesn't come default. A lot of games usually come with DirectX installs, but SK doesn't (weirdly). Try to get the basic redistributes of DirectX, as well as OpenGL. Ensure you get java version 7/8 as well, assuming you did a clean wipe on your disc. It might sound like a lot of work, but these are the basic programs you need.

Thank you Zaffy! Unfortunately, the idea of backing up my files did not occur to me. I'm rather inexperienced with computers, but this was something that I should have remembered. I'll look for all the things you have suggested- DirectX, OpenGL. I'll also confirm that I have Java 7/8. But before I search for these and install them, do you have any helpful links to them? I would prefer not to accidentily install a bunch of programs I don't need.
Im sure that I could fix this without those links, but it would sure help!

Thanks for the response!

EDIT: I really need a link. Something is wrong with my browser, and the search bar won't work. It takes way too long then crashes. The only way I can get anywhere is if I have it on favorites, suggestions, or if I have the exact address. Im currently looking into other browsers. (I would also appreciate a link to internet explorer 11 download)

Here's DirectX, free from the company that made your Windows.

I haven't heard of whether you actually formatted your disk, so your drivers may be missing. A guide to setting up drivers for all graphic cards.

Microsoft .Net Framework is pretty important too, even for other games

Oracle's java, version 7.

Couldn't you have wrote in your link google.com or something? Anyways,

IE 11
Chrome
Firefox

Spiral knights uses OpenGL, not directx. If you notice sk works on mac and Linux which do not have directx. Make sure you have your OpenGL drivers up to date. Do not use anything above java 6, there are known issues on Java 7 and 8. Namely on mac sk cannot use the required JNI library distributables bundled with sk when using java 7 or 8. Windows 8 is having weird issues with certain versions of java as well. Often what will happen is the standalone and steam version will work, but not the applet web based one when you update your java, since the standalone will continue to use the last JDK installed while the applet will use the latest se version.
