Im working on a challenge, where i'm only allowed to use proto gear AND i cant craft anything but the cobalt armor set and spiral order weapon set.

Advantages:

Good normal/piercing defence with good shield health
One of the strongest swords/bombs in game
Useful gun
Easy to craft, and cheap

Disadvantages:

No elemental/shadow resistance
No status resistance
Normal damage only

Restrictions:

No crafting other than Spiral Order weapons and Cobalt Armor set

Extra:

Allowed to craft the Cold Iron Vanquisher for Vanaduke

At the end of challenge:

Free to craft as much as i like
Free to do whatever
Free to farm whatever

Cripplex has been created, and has gotten to rank 2-2 doing only elite difficulties.

Currently at a crown count of 1,099.
No cobalt items yet, still using proto.
Doing mission 2 of 2-2.
Good start so far, no sparks used

Couldn't you just equip proto/cobalt? Why make a new character? Also, are you giong to do a live on twitch/youtube?

I have a 8-2 character, yes. But he has nothing for orbs and nothing for crowns or sparks. So its completely useless trying to do it with him.

Besides, it's fun making a new character. You can make an instant 100 Energy because of the amount of crowns you'll have just from buying nothing.

I just had a sort of revelation when thinking about the mission orb bonuses. While you can't trade the orbs themselves, couldn't you trade the unequipped armor? I don't know if this is viable but I could be onto something.

Please explain the rules better. You're allowed to use only Proto gear? Then why bother to craft Cobalt? Just to get past the Hall of Heroes? And why craft CIV? Are you saying that you're allowed to use any Cobalt/Calibur-derived equipment?

Being a pre-teen at 8:00 PM after taking a shower makes me tired.
Sorry.

I'm allowed to use proto AND cobalt gear, however I should most likely go cobalt during after hall of heroes. I am allowed to use Spiral Order weapons and the Cold Iron Vanquisher. I normally wouldn't use one all the time, but I'll need it for vanaduke runs. Since vanaduke is considered undead, it'll do some good damage.

CIV should work well against all of the undead in FSC. But Vanaduke is rather a special case. His resistances are not exactly like an undead monster's. Undead bonuses don't apply to him, do they? If they do, I'd love to be corrected.

Vanaduke is, in fact, considered a Fiend. He's just SpEcIaL. Because he takes no Fiend DMG UP. Yeah I don't get it ether.

To be honest I think that the best item in the entire 'cobalt' set is the blast bomb line. It's so safe to use once you get the hang if it :o

Who needs ctr anyway?

I can't see why you'd want to craft a CIV other than looks. At higher levels of damage boost (You won't have these anyway if you're running cobalt only though, apart from sprite maybe) then levaithan blade does more damage against undead than CIV anyway.

But seriously though, get nitronome to murder everything in groups and valiance to hit switches/finish off single targets. You'll be unstoppable.

Future challenge ideas:

one weapon only run
no items run (can be picked up though)
no taking damage
shieldless run
negative bonus/UV (decreased attack speed, decreased movement speed, decreased charge time)
limited only to starting gear (no crafting anything)

edit: Are other ideas for challenges welcome here?

Ever since I heard of the nitronome, I liked no other normal damage bomb since.
Also, the charge time for the BAB is pretty long.

Do you seriously think I can change Mighty Cobalt into Almirian Crusader armor? You need to beat Dakfire Vanaduke, for cryin' out loud!
I might go for it, though. :P

Vanaduke's tool tip used to say that he was a fiend, but I think that that's been changed. I think that the wiki is out of date and wrong.

In any event, what's important is that no family-specific damage bonus (undead, fiend, etc.) applied to Vanaduke. So CIV is not great against him.

Sure about what? That family-specific bonuses don't apply to Vanaduke? That's what I remember, and it's corroborated by the Vanduke wiki page. So I'm pretty confident, but not 100% certain. I don't see what Gran Faust has to do with it.

The wiki could be wrong or right. But my recollection, from reading threads like this, playing the game, and watching the wiki change over time, is that Vanaduke is a special case. Although the design of FSC suggests that he's undead, and his tooltip used to suggest that he was a fiend, he doesn't really belong to any monster family.

Just a little tweak...

Any item in the Cobalt Armor, Blast Bomb, Calibur, Defender, and Blaster line, is available to craft.
Just to make it better.. :)

I was thinking of going this route whenever I did Skeptic-Raven's Vanguard challenge, so this is pretty convenient. Now I just gotta sit down and actually make my alt.
