If I were to take say, a ghostbuster crest-- which is always bound from the mission-- and stick it to my armor and then immediately remove the crest again, would it come back to me unbound and ready to sell on the auction house?
Can I unbind the various crests given to me by equipping them and then removing them?

I'm just curious. If you're right then accessories must be stored differently on armor than they are in your inventory. Which makes a lot of sense, that they would have at least one less variable when put there than they would elsewhere.
It also implies that accessories cannot be locked to our character. So if they were to give us a special homecoming crest, or something of that sort, then it would be trade-able for large sums of money.

I don't think that's likely. If everyone (or at least a large enough portion of the population) gets the same thing, its value tends to stay pretty low. For example, there's still some unbound Azure Guardian Crests from the bugged rollout of that accessory floating around in the econony and they usually don't get higher than 20k or so when they are listed on the AH.
Prismatic Bolted Vees are another example; the odds of getting one 'naturally' are still like one in a million with a 750e price for each attempt, but their market value is like 500cr each.
I think any event accessory unbound for trade will probably not cost more than its unbind fee + 100e or so.

Lol, the large sums of money were for trading it, not selling it. I.E. I can either: Use my item or I can pay the massive unbind fee for accessories and trade it.
