I am fairly certain this is right but would it be useful to keep the apocrean weapons with the regular versions, or in short using the Obsidian to poison and using the regular for damage (seeing as an Acheron does more damage vs a strongly poisoned foe than an Obsidian edge)?

The Obsidian Edge/Acheron seems like a good combo

Obsidian carbine/Sentenza would be great against gremlins as both have same shadow damage, vs slime both would be equal, (though Sentenza would be better in poison gremlin/slime levels since OC cant poison them and Sentenza has a gremlin boost)

Obsidian crusher/Graviton Vortex seems inefficient (and besides vortexes aren't meant for damage they are to clump enemies for your brandish teammates, thus the Crusher would be better)

Except that Acheron will kill the enemy in one charge, and Obsidian Edge might leave it alive. It's not worth a subpar charge just to poison when you can throw a solid, one shot one that obliterates everything, including Undead.

Ditto with the other weapons. Plus, are you really going to craft a Sentenza when you have a Carbine?

Just so you know, poison-themed Gremlins don't resist poison.

@Carbine vs Sentenza
Carbine is better, there is no way around this.

@Crusher vs Vortex
Is this even a contest? People don't use Vortex's for damage anyway.

@Obsidian Edge vs Acheron
They could be swapped out, but why do that when you can just murder everything with Acheron? Though I guess Obsidian Edge is better for long-lasting things like Shadow Lairs and such. Maybe.

Shouldn't you be comparing Obsidian Crusher with Graviton Vortex and not Electron?

Maybe OE would be better in March of the Tortodrones, but that's the only place I can think of besides an area with several Gremlin Menders spamming revive and the like.

Please read the OP, I'm not asking which is better (Acheron/Obsidan carbine/crusher are obviously the better choices when you have to pick between the two variants), I'm asking if using the obsidian weapons to deal poison and switching to the regular equivalent would be a viable tactic.

Why would you want to do the whole swapping thing when you could drop a venom veiler instead and poison more things? Sure it's a weaker poison but the main use for poison is to stop things from healing and even minor poison will do that.

I kinda wish they'd do an apocrean themed biohazard reskin though. That would be sweet. I can imagine pieces of obsidian orbiting round the slimes before being detonated in a flash of purple... >:]

"I'm asking if using the obsidian weapons to deal poison and switching to the regular equivalent would be a viable tactic."

No, unless you're doing some challenge run like when Acheron got buffed and everyone ran FSC with just Shadow damage, so people would poison with OE then swap to Acheron.

In general, there is absolutely no reason to carry both, you'd be wasting weapon slots.

For larger mobs that don't die in one acheron hit and huge crowds that cannot fully be pushed back, obsidian edge is superior and could definitely be comboed with acheron. Obsidian edge really shines when there is a mender. It would still probably be better to bring a different weapon though, since it would be such a small gain in power.

Graviton vortex is akin to a damage dealing haze bomb, and is really a poor weapon in comparison to the obsidian crusher and electron vortex.

Sentenza and Carbine are utility weapons. They deal less damage, but allow faster block breaking, controlled damage to mobs, and faster control over the various switches found about the arcade. Sentenza offers more damage to gremlins. Carbine offers more utility in the form of poison, as well as well as higher damage to gremlins once it manages to get a hold on them-- making it far superior.

I use obsidian whenever I'm in a team. Why? Poison lessens the damage delt enemies deal. This is especially useful in survival style missions such as grinchlin assault.

Although I use GF/Umbra in C42, my next choices there would be the non-poison variants. Otherwise, I tend to use the poison ones because I am a status monger.

The only time I have used both in the same situation was when I was playing around with max damage values for brandishes (OE + Acheron). Strong poison, seraphynx armor decrease, drakon frenzy, damage pickup, acheron charge does around 1200 damage (+ explosions) in D28.

"normal"

The use of the word "normal" in the thread title is misleading. How about status vs. non-status comboing? How about blending Nova and Storm Drivers, or Blitz and Plague Needles?

I agree with more recent posters that Obsidian Edge is not useless compared to Acheron. Acheron is obviously the winner when it can one-shot-kill a small group of monsters. Obsidian's utility improves in harder fights with more monsters.
