Suggesting to run through levels rather than take the second it takes to kill things for supplies is surely a great idea. Wondering why you're dead on the next plateu so quickly with bewilderment is not.

Likewise suggesting you skip arenas (especially the ones on D27 and 28), doing only the first part of those arenas and opting not to finish through for radiants or other boxed goodies is sure to make me hate you and stand in a corner of the map twiddling with my thumbs and exclaiming how good it would be to eat a snipe on the next plateau. Do not listen to these people. The levels aren't going anywhere. The tokens will still be there for you to get afterwards.

After having spouted these ideas they will then die on the plateau in record time and exclaim bye, leaving your party short one member.

Likewise if you find a puzzle do it, and if you lack the means to do it point it out in the chat.

Also, if you find the elevator don't just spend the entire time we're there sitting there. Help, and make an effort to help your team as well. (which you won't)

Dying and laying there, or making no conscious effort to help and then wondering why you're averaging 100 sigils each run should be self explanatory.

Also if you find a bug you should kill it, and if you see those piles of hands around one of your teammates? You should kill those dead too. In fact you should kill everything dead in the level you can find from the tombs to the bushes. All of it. Kill it dead.

Likewise, if everyone is having trouble with it (Because lets face you're too cool to be killing those bugs aren't you?) you should know when its time to get out of there.

And you see that tall thing inching towards you? No. You can't kill it dead.

I've got a way with words. I should write a steam guide or something.
But no. After nearly three years of playing #pubs are dead to me.

Bring on the #solos

Is it bad that I solo this mission?

I see everyone coming up with these ideas, strategies, and peeves like this. I myself have not had to bother with anything though because I just solo all the way through. I feel like I'm doing something wrong here...

Anyways, I'm just going to pretend I always do the mission in a party of 4 with a bunch of idjits and agree to everything here.

Aiiro dost thou need a hug?

But on the more serious note, pubs for these kind of events are not exactly the best thing to do. Apocrea requires coordination, which is the least vitamin found in pub parties.

I'm not saying solitude yourself, rather find some friends to do this event, guildmates even(are you in a guild question mark). I much rather do pubs in where the goal is simple and even braindead button mashers can succeed. Like fsc or the arcade gates. The point of an mmo is meeting and playing with other human beings.

Honestly, I think its just as important to note that one or two scarabs won't kill anyone-- and a couple WILL get out 90% of the time. So when you get hurt, don't worry. The worst thing you can do is get mad at your team and jeopardize the run. Likewise, if there are 2 people dead and you're still farming the level, you should probably move on- you need them to increase your productivity, and slowly clearing the level at 1/3 of the speed isn't necessarily the best of ideas.

@Alfredo

If you're soloing, then you're going to be gathering at less than 1/3 of what you could be. I don't think that's a good idea.

But like Whim said, when you dash on solo, the Apocrean despawns.

@Fehz Ok, here are some

@Fehz

Ok, here are some numbers

120 sigils per level, about 12 mins as solo.

With party i know you can get 200, but its hit or miss with randoms, so yeah. Whatever works, eh?

On solo, there is only one of you and that one of you has to constantly dash/cloak to remove the harvester. With 4 people, the harvester is always present, but gets stuck going for one person, leaving 3 free to clear the floor as opposed to one distracted player. 2/3 of the randoms would have to be garbage for it to be worse than soloing.

But I suppose you may be able to make it work out better.

I got 226 on a solo run (after I went solo because the team wanted to skip the arena after not getting any plateau levels). It wasn't that bad since scarabs and souls are way easier to kill. But it was really boring. If you guys prefer that then more power to you.

A perfect example...

Just went solo on a d28 arena because the party leader said he was "farming tokens not orbs". The depth before that he laid dead in a plateau and urged everyone to go to the lift even though there was still plenty of graves. Someone else in the party told us not to make him wait... wow. Nobody was making him wait, he could have resurrected or gone up to haven. If he can't survive during his own rushing party then maybe he shouldn't be doing them. I don't mind people rushing, just make it very clear it is a rush in the mission lobby. Believe it or not some people actually want to play the game.

Since it seems like most of the players here don't like skipping arenas or simpleminded knights who don't kill the scarabs, maybe we could go in a party with each other for some successful runs? Just a thought. Feel free to add me in-game if anybody wants to party. I make sure to kill everything and I'm willing to do even the third round of fiend arenas.

To people suggesting Aiiro play solo:

1. this is a CO-OP game. If you don't want to work as a team, play something else
2. Going solo means taking FOUR TIMES AS LONG to get sigils with no bonus at all, not to mention that nobody can save you if you need help.

It's the people who are throwing loot away and being selfish that should go solo, not the people actually killing monsters (which is the entire point of spiral knights)

Also WHY now of all times doesn't anyone use mic? You can't type without getting ****ed by the harvester or the scarabs

Thoughts

--Yeah, I don't get the concept of rushing through that first level in the least. It's saving you what, all of five minutes? Whoopee. And there are these wonderful little things called Vitapods and health pills that greatly increase your survivability on the Plateau...guess where you can get those from?

--I'm honestly more ambivalent about skipping the arenas. They can take a while to slog through, and if people are already concerned about surviving on the Plateau, they may not want to run the risk of burning more lives in a Fiend arena. The other issue is that a good weapon loadout for the arena isn't necessarily the same as a good loadout for Soul-hunting, and obviously you'd want to stick with the latter. I'm probably swayed by the fact that I was finally part of a run that did decide to continue through the arena...and then we managed to wipe in the second room, before ever hitting a Plateau level. Bad End. In any case, I can completely understand skipping the final room: that 12-Greaver wave can suck it.

--It really is sad how quickly some people die on the Plateau, and you're absolutely right that they usually seem to be the people most eager to rush. And words cannot express my rage at the scumbags who just park themselves AFK at the elevator. I had another run recently where one guy died almost immediately, the other sat at the elevator, and I was the only one scrambling around trying to drudge up a few Sigils. Awful. And why does it seem so hard to maintain a full 4-person party through more than a level or two? There are far too many players who just bail for no apparent reason.

--The bugs...well, the obvious argument for getting rid of them is that it helps cut down lag (really that should be on OOO for how horribly-unoptimized the game is), but they can be a pain in the rear to completely track down unless you have the most effective weapons to deal with them, which I really don't. I generally just try to dodge them unless I wind up with a whole bunch in a small area, and then I'll do my best to thin the herd. Standing still for too long on the Plateau is generally your worst enemy, after all.

But honestly none of this bugs me all that much anymore. Apparently I'd done better than I remembered the previous time around, since I only needed a few more materials to be able to craft all three weapons. I had one final run last night where we managed to hit (and yes, skip) three arenas in a row, but by the time we hit the final Plateau, we were nice and pumped up on health, and we scored over 200 Sigils. It was just enough to buy my last materials, so now I never have to play this mission again! I'm free!

@Batabii Why do you think

@Batabii

Why do you think there's a go solo option if its a CO OP game? You don't think very well when when making responses apparently.

Update: Average of 200 sigils at best, average of 150 normally on elite per floor.

Im talkin around 15 minutes....oh wait. Here's how I solo.

1) Skip everything, cause you can kill kats on another day
2) Shadow armor
3) Only chase down souls. I set a time limit of 15 mins per Grasping Plateau, 20 if it is the last one. This gets anywhere between 120 and 250 depending on the luck of your soul spawns (typically around 160).
4) Puzzles are secondary
5) Solo. Cause its easier with dash.

I would choose a skilled party any day over going solo. But the keyword is SKILLED. Most people die too fast, or get frustrated (some guy told me to put down the non respawning fire, but i didnt, and he died and blamed it on me. A guildie nonetheless.)

To each their own batabii. Think before you type, and do not order others around. Happy farming, solo or parties!

...So you ignore the Scarabs and thus cause an increasing amount of lag?

I like my parties. Theyre all guildies and buddies that listen. They arent all max 5* players, but they actually listen to top strategies.

In fact, a couple friends invited me on their runs and I've only done one with them because of their play style.
Maybe next event for them.

Skipping D27/28 arenas is a no-no for me.
3-3.3k crns per run (use up to 3 sparks and still make profit of just radiants).
I've joke around for a bit now to show how valuable radiants are. I should finally make a forum bazaar thread where the trading currency is just radiants.

The puzzles give you 4.5 times as many tokens as a lost soul, and you probably would also take a lot less time if you weren't soloing.

And just because there's a "go solo" option doesn't mean the game isnt meant to be co-op. That's like trying to say tf2 isn't an online game because it has one or two offline modes with bots...

My two cents
  1. Skipping arenas is inadvisable, because those are fast way to get radiants. But if you're short on time, it's fine. Just talk that out with the rest of your party beforehand.
  2. If you're not playing with gamepad, use your numerical keyboard! It's much faster to press one button to signal "Help!" or "Attack!" than it is to type. As for voice chat... well, there are people who prefer listening to music rather than someone's voice, or dislike freakish home noises that others' mics pick up, or just aren't good enough with spoken English (like me). Signals are more universal.
    If you do play on gamepad, well...
  3. Always tell people where the puzzles are. Even if you spawned on top of them and solved them instantly. If no mats have spawned for you, it doesn't mean those haven't spawned for everybody else.
