You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Ah, hello!

The communities are shared. Steam players can play with non-Steam players and vice-versa. If you aren't finding many players in Haven, you should try switching Havens. (The switch Haven button is up at the top-right corner of the screen.) Hope this helps!

If you want, I could send you a friend request. (Or you could figure out how to send one to me...) I'll just warn you that I can't remember people by name. Try as I might, my head is like a sifter and names are like fine sand...it's just the way I am. So, if you send me a request, please mention this thread. I don't play every day, but I could try to log in at a specific time.

right

Right. It doesn't matter whether you play through the downloadable client or the Steam client. We all play together.

Steam has voice chat
Website does not.

Therefore steam wins by default.

Oh, I want to play too!

Steam lets you easily trade with other people's non-SK stuff.
Website does not.

Therefor Steam wins by default.

Agree to disagree?

like autofire said the community is shared but if you really want to pick between web client and steam my choice to recommend would be Steam.
pros:
-screen shots
-voice chat
-steam trade
-auto updates with out needing to open the game client
-no need to input password and username also safer as far as internet theft goes
-steam mask
cons:
-can't edit spiral knights wiki
-the servers lag? and client can't login properly? (this is just bs by the community judging from my perspective)
-you can't play unless steam client is opened

the web client has nothing of the above.

wait, who cares about steam or non steam clients. GLORIOUS PC GAMING MASER RACE!

more reasonably

Advantages of Steam over web site:
1. ability to trade assets across games
2. integrated voice chat

Advantages of web site over Steam:
A. Occasionally Steam goes out of service.
B. You can't easily convert a Steam account back to a web site account. So converting to Steam is "risky".
C. Although SK and Steam are both available for Linux, Steam SK doesn't work on Linux.

Each player weighs these advantages differently. I have no interest in voice chat. Other players have no interest in Linux (although that may change with the Valve Steam box).

Edit: Thesamurai posted just as I was posting. You can take screen shots outside Steam. Even if you play with Steam, you can get a non-Steam account and edit the wiki.

Not-Dibsville is not Dibsville.

Therefore Not-Dibsville wins by default.
