Looking for an artist

Hello knights,
as the title says, I'm looking for an artist to help me with a project that is entirely unrelated to Spiral Knights beyond using the same/or a similar art style. Payment is my eternal (5*) gratitude and your name in the credits.

The project in question is called Raccoon and that is already what I need: a raccoon shaped application icon for the desktop and the Android version.

Specs:

  • The thing to depict is the face/head (EDIT: cute, not aggressive looking).
  • The icon must scale well to various sizes (in fact from 12px to 128px), so you have to keep it quite abstract and not use a lot of details. Because of the scaling, I also need it in SVG format.
  • As far as colors go: it must work on a #202020 background and ideally use the Android palette
  • Your work must be licensed as CC BY-SA-3.0

As far as the process goes: Just post your work (SVG file(s)) , if it is what I'm looking for, I'll include it in the app and link to your deviantart, blog, tumblr,... from the credits section in the handbook.

Move over, there's bubble-wrap to be popped!

Well, all I can make is pixel art, so I'm not sure about this

From what it says on the Android Palette, there is no gray scale, so that is probably going to be hard

Idk, I think now I want to make a raccoon face in my freetime not for this

Pixel art is a no go, sorry.

Pixel art is a no go, sorry. It really has to be vector based as I need to scale it to about half a dozen sizes. As fr as the android palette goes, I was thinking about something like a blueish raccoon mask (Anyone ever played Sly Raccoon?).

Oh totally forgot: Cute, not aggressive coon.

I have a problem with your request.

What you are asking for basically is requesting pixel art.
Because the smallest icon is 12 x 12, There really isn't any room for true art.
This is a basic rundown of what your smallest picture would look like.
Larger Version: (*)
And yes, it is to Scale.

Also, with those limitations, you can't make it cute or angry.

I would like a proper list of scales. Seriously, if you want it, you have to do your job and tell us everything we need.
Because 12x12 still requires pixels, your picture will ultimately be the same as pixel art.
I missed the 128x128 part, but there's no way for me to evenly turn 12x12 into 128x128, Because 128 divided by 12 results in fractions.
Also, what's vector? Never heard of it.

I'd like to take a shot at this but don't rely on me.

Yo yo and hello!

@Liminori
Vector art is very much different from pixel art. Bitmaps store information in pixels of an image, so that each dot has a color information. A vector image saves information of the image in vectors (like lines and points), so that, no matter what the original image is scaled to, the resolution when it's blown back up is the same.

The only vector art program I know of is Inkscape. Hope this helped!

Thank you, Jester. They're so

Thank you, Jester. They're so wildly different. D: But you explained it better than I could.

I'd be interested in something like this but sadly I don't have a lot of skill in vector design, but I'll mess around with Inkscape if I have a bit more free time in the weeks to come.

Little bit questioning with examples.

Well, seems like the app would be useful whenever people want to download/check things out and not have suggestions or ads from google that relates to it. Though I do have a bit of question list:

1. Do both the art styles have to be the same or different on each port? Because I've seen some icons that differ whenever on either computer or Andriod, yet still base on the same concept.
2. Do you want detailed or cartoon style of vector based art? Some can be as though it looks as though the actual thing yet lined/shaded out and others are simple drawing full in or lined.
3. Are you looking for specific poses for the artwork and/or different 'modes' of the icon whenever things happen like error, scavenging, or starting up? It might be a little more work, though it's pretty neat, especially going with new things haven't done yet.

Well anyways, I'm done with questions now. Here's some examples that I've drew as a bit of a 'base' to get the thing going. The top two are pretty much for PC version, while the bottom is for Android. It goes a bit from top right, top left, and bottom with going down a bit realistic to cartoonish. (Btw sorry for LQ there; I kind of have a bad camera to use with my 3Ds pretty much. :S)

@Spring-At-Peace 1. No, same

@Spring-At-Peace

1. No, same artwork for PC and Android is totally fine.
2. Cartoon style please. Details don't scale well.
3. I'm currently only looking for an application icon to put on the Desktop, in the window titlebar (Android: homescreen and the actionbar).

The third one (face only) is what I'm looking for :).

This here is my first time using inkscape so I definitely won't be surprised if it's not of quality you're looking for.

Originally (once I thought I was finished), there was no eyeball and no smile. I figured the bottom was too plain but the little grin added a bit more character to it in my opinion. My sister suggested an eyeball and the iris around it was totally unexpected but it happened somehow and I like it. It is in svg format but the upload is png since imgur doesn't support svg. I can modify it however you'd like or I can give it to you to modify though I don't know anything about licensing. Good luck on your developing!

Hi, sorry for the late

Hi, sorry for the late reply

@kathrine-dragon
Thanks for the drawing, but it isn't at all what I'm looking for.

Well, I sorta assumed I could fix all the specs I ignored later if you liked it, but here's something I thought might be a bit closer to what you're looking for?

...though, Illustrator doesn't seem to want to export to SVG format, I don't know if there's a way around that...

@PossiblespyInteresting

@Possiblespy

Interesting idea. It sure solves the scaling problem, but something about it irks me. I can't quite put the finger on it. Maybe because it reminds me of a stealth bomber/Bert Raccoon crossover.

PS: I think I can convert .ai to .svg, so .ai should work as well.

Are you still working on this?

Oh; I was just providing some examples to show how you'd like your symbol for me/other artists to look into (hence the base mentioning). If you want, I can try creating it then on my Nook with Picsart. :o

Edit: Well I might've not been good at it, though trying out new things is part of being an artist. :S

I went pretty much size 120 px by 120 px to get it about evenly divided easier. Also It might not be exact android color coding, though I rehashed a bit of the shaping from what I drew on paper earlier.
