Almost all data on the wiki has been gathered empirically (which is rather difficult given the fairly small community) , and any casual player will not be able to learn any more about what weapons/armour do other than what damage types they are relevant too, as well as rarity drop chances and how much heat affects weapons to name a few.. The only reason i could think of for why they keep the players in the dark is so that it is easier to get mo-oh wait i think i figured it out.
But really, why is so little relevant information provided in this game?

The game is designed for casual players. It's not supposed to be played for 8 hours a day; that's why mist is reasonable (although it was tossed aside in release 2013-07-30).

For example, by default attacks show colors rather than damage numbers. Players ought to have a vague idea of when they're doing "a lot" of damage, versus "a reasonable amount" of damage, versus "very little" damage. But tuning the precise numbers is not what this game is about.

If you were to rank the players by how interested they are in reverse-engineering the game mechanics, I would certainly rank in the top ten. So this issue is important to me. But I regard it as a fun "meta-game", rather than an impediment. Cheers.

I too greatly enjoy the mega-game of finding out how things work. I must admit it has kept me here longer than my normal stay. I find fun picking the problems apart, of which most games are vastly more straight forward on how things work (or just blatantly tell you). A solid model of how shields function is a big thing that interests me.
