Ok, to start off with, I always see people begging for crowns. However, I don't know why because I don't find a couple thousand crowns hard to come by at all. Now, people need to realize that they are cutting their profits by half or more when they sell items on the marketplace for far less than they are worth. For example, earlier I went to sell some Forbidden Fruit on the AH. It is easily worth at least 100crowns per fruit. But there are people selling them for 25crown a piece? That is hurting everyone's profits. So all I'm saying is sell smarter everyone and you could easily make twice as much money.
ATTENTION: Stop undercutting yourself people.
the buyout price is 25? or the bid? they might expect it to be a bid war.
Dude Forbidden fruit is a common material...its worth 25 crowns at most.
Mats have no fixed cost... they cost literally nothing to pick up... so you can sell them for literally whatever you want. If I find anything, its free for me. anything i sell it for is profit. Thus, saying Forbidden Fruit is "easily 100 cr" is a completely artificial and arbitrary price that means nothing. You made it up.
Now, if you were to sell a 5* recipe that cost 25k from basil, and sold it for 25k at the AH, that would be undercutting yourself due to the Auction House tax.
However, the only thing that has a set price are recipes... the price of everything else is arbitrarily made up by sellers, for whatever they think people will buy it for.
Everyone!!! Keep undercutting each other please. I love cheap stuff.
Thanks
The prices before the auction house existed have nothing to do with material prices now.
The prices before the listing fees were brought down to something slightly sane have only a little to do with material prices now.
Forbidden Fruit is a common drop and is only used in one recipe that -might- be mass crafted (shadowtech alchemer) and a couple other recipes that might get used (graviton bomb, nightblade). Not in high demand as shadowtech alchemer mass-crafters are few and far between, so ... dirt cheap.
Now, that isn't to say absurd undercutting doesn't happen, but there's a solution to that. Buy out all the underpriced material and relist it for higher.
If you can't make money doing that, then it wasn't really underpriced after all, if you can make money on it, then good on you for spotting a market opportunity.
As long as no one undercuts themselves for Gear until I buy them, that is.
All my stuff is decently priced, aimed at the new people and those looking for a good deal.
(I will NOT, however, let go of any CTR UVs (High or higher) at a "decent price". A "handsome yet reasonable" price is more likely for those.)
@Senshi
Man, I have thought about buying out all of a low priced item so many times. Controlling the market on something so you can charge whatever you want is appealing, but so scary, because you have no idea how many more of that item might pop up once you've raised the price.
It's also of questionable morality, but I'm less concerned about that.
You'll understand supply and demand some day. Don't give up!
Delicious market forces at work.
It's no good being sad about how you're not making fat profits any more, or exhorting AH vendors to artificially jack up their prices. There'll always be someone willing to undercut you, so the only solution if you want to make the sale is to drop your own prices to the going market rate and accept the lower profits. Lower profit is better than no profit, after all.
It is kinda annoying to not be able to make ANY profit on lower star items, but that was a problem long before the AH. And being undercut by someone that sells an item for such a low price that they clearly don't even *need* the money can be annoying, but provided it's just one or two people, you can buy it up, take them off the market and resell it.
People are always gonna want to shift their piles of UV-crafting waste for pocket change, though, and there's no fighting against that. Initially, though, you could sell Spiral Demo Helms on the AH and actually make a small profit. Fun while it lasted.
ATTENTION: Items are worth whatever you can sell them for.
ATTENTION: If I feel like dumping 400 shards at 10 crowns each, that's my business.
