Shield bash (what to and what not to do)

Shield bash is an interesting ability that was created to help keep players from getting cornered by big monsters.

The shield bash animation shows you raise your shield and then boost forward a short distance, anything in your path will take a small amount of damage, get pushed away (except for naturally immobile enemies) and will be stunned (a few monsters are immune to stun).

Not do:

This shield bash shows you raise the shield but in reality you can still take damage. Hazards include: dashing into attacking enemies, bullets, rockets, exploding blocks, status and spike traps, shankles, and wisps.

The Shield bash also pushes enemies so if you aren't in danger try not to use it too often, your teammates rely on the predictability of certain monsters and bouncing them around can mess them up.

Shield bash is capable of doing damage but don't rely on it to help you too much.

The stun status slows down enemies and their attacks but it does not slow down projectiles, so don't be surprised if a rocket puppy fires off a full speed shot while stunned.

To do:

If you get cornered or surrounded then a shield bash can save you hp, you may take a hit while escaping but it is far better than being stuck in a sea of enemies.

Keep the Dash ability ready in case your shield bash turns out to be a bad move, that way you can hop out of danger.

Wait till your enemies aren't in an attack animation to shield bash them (this can keep you from losing hp).

Shield bash takes up %50 of your shield, if you shield can't take a hit with that much health then you need to be really selective about when you use it.

Shield bash can only be used when your shield is at %100, try to anticipate when you are going to get trapped and if you can't see a way out prepare to shield bash before the monsters wear your shield down (because once it takes a hit you can't shield bash till it is back to %100)

You are what I would consider "advanced" players.

This topic is in "new recruits".

You know how to stay out of situations that would require shield bash, such as being surrounded.

Rather than suggesting that a new player let a Trojan keep him in a corner until he dies I decided to post something that could help possibly prevent that situation.

I admit that for advanced players who have learned monster patterns shield bash is more an entertainment rather than utility but for those who don't know, a shield bash could keep them from drowning in a sea of Jellies.

To be honest, I didn't even know there is a shield bash or a dash. That's why I say to not use it.

Trojans are op, Yo!

Do never expect a small cobalt mighty defender shield can fight and win against the big trojan's shield. I still kept on getting cornered in Vana -_-

Pro tip : A great way to shield bash an enemy is, shield bash, dash back, they will get stunned, then Polaris the heck out of them >:D

Shield bash is very situational.

The shield bash moves one tile further than the standard dash does, and if you think spikes are going to come up soon (before they start flashing!), you can shield bash across a trap that would have made you take damage from walking.

The shield bash is also very helpful if you use it to separate an enemy from a crowd and take them out. For larger enemies, you can use the shield bash as a source of stun(I.E., you can stun a trojan by shield bashing its crystal and prevent it from landing a hit on a teammate who is trying to get out of club-range)

In the end, the shield bash should be used to save teammates rather than yourself, as without the backup you will become very vulnerable with half a shield and around many enemies. Plus, if the enemies are aggro'd onto you, you are more likely to be hit while performing the shield bash.

DON'T WORRY I'LL SAVE YOU FROM THAT GREAVER MIST

But Fangel's mostly right, unless you have a Tortodrone Shield which also pushes away enemies with a second blast; however, those are also fairly risky, so you should generally bash non-aggro'd enemies.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

It's best with Trotodrone shield, of course.

It's also quite viable with a DVS, (From Stun) especially when you feel that you won't be using your shield for a while. I sometimes Shield Bash and then Dash after my prey.
