What would happen to SK if a famous youtuber played it?

I was on youtube one day and my account reccomended me one of pewdiepie's videos. Then it hit me, if pewdiepie or tobuscus etc. made a SK video. And since they're extremely popular on youtube, it could get SK more fans. If you were a follower of pew and watched his SK video, you would wonder whats the game like and download it. It could possibly bring new fans to SK which could make more money for Three Rings, which in turn could save SK.

So maybe the pewds or smosh or anyone can make sk really popular.

Thanks for reading!

Post below what you think!

It would depend on the youtuber.

If someone like Pewdiepie or Tobuscus came over ... well, I guess it depends on how you think about their fan base.

EDIT: +1 Bamzalot.

"cmon u broz we gata brofist all aruond! Gow Pewds!!!!!!!! (Insert loads of inappropriate and unhandled mature content here)"

Ehh, I'd probably quit.

If PewDiePie made an SK video I would probably delete my character, uninstall SK, sit in a corner and cry myself to sleep.

:/

Lol, here is where OOO shot themselves in the foot, because unlike other games, say Dark souls or other AAA titled games, which have a reasonable goal to reach for and can make a lot of episodes out of, say, if Poods continued with dark souls2 (he never finished the game >:/, what a casul!) I am sure he could get another 100 million views out of his hard work (is DS2 that hard? It is easier than the first one for sure), which is more $$$ for him. But a game like SK is... um, let's say very grindy and there is no actual 'end' to the game, hence why I don't see any youtubers would make it into a serie, I have seen SK been covered in some highlight episodes but that is that, no youtubers will be willing to devote the energy needed to finish the game's campain mode, too much game knowledge and practices are required.

Dark Souls 2 is just training for Dark Souls and Demon's Souls.

There's not enough

There's not enough opportunities for Pewdiepie to cram in offensive jokes for him to ever consider SK.

Midnight-Dj has a good point though, too, there's not really a lot of content that'd make it enjoyable for somebody to just WATCH - I love SK, but watching somebody run FSC would be so boring, I'd rather just do it myself, haha.

also good god I do not want that sort of fanbase anywhere near this game. D:

SK isn't really "let's play" material. I'm sure most of the people mentioned in this thread would either stop recording after the first hour (!) of play, or never get any progress. Like Animal Crossing. I watched VGA play new leaf, they did about one day's worth of events (didn't even build their first house), then a month or two later they cheated so they could do the halloween event. It was painful.

The reason I found out about SK was because of In the little wood, Or atleast I'm pretty sure that it was him who made the SK video a loooong time ago.

Well...

When the game came out I wanted this to happen. TotalBiscuit did actually talk about the game once on a Mailbox episode he did, when someone mailed him about the energy system. He said the game was on his list of stuff to maybe check out but he never did. But now, with the game in the state that it's in, any halfway decent Youtuber or even reviewer who would cover the game would probably pan it as short, repetitive, not balanced, and linear. And if they got to the endgame and experienced radiants or looked up the release history, you could add "predatory business model" into that list.

The bit of a catch-22 SK is in right now is it needs more players to fund better content, but it needs better content to bring in more players.

Like said, depends on the youtuber.
If they had a good fanbase, and the fanbase wasn't filled with idiots that just enjoy yelling curse and swear words and insulting ethnicity groups. (The Creatures, PewDiePie, etc..) But maybe a decent fanbase like Total Biscuits fanbase or someone else's fanbase that's good, i dunno.

Just no more little children please. I'm fine with kids playing, but im talking about the children.

You know what i'm talking about.

I don't know...

On one hand, we'd get more players running around and interacting, which would be neat.
But on the other hand, we'd have a several hundred people who all look identical to however the Youtuber customized their character, and all making the same jokes. But this is only assuming the popular Youtuber is one of those that has, on average, a younger fan-base and/or is renowned for making rude or obscene comments.
However if we had a small group of people who all work for one channel (First gaming-related one that comes to mind is Game Grumps/Steam Train, the latter more possible in this situation), then we might have a video series that could prove interesting.

The only thing I can see happening are people trying the game out, doing whatever the Youtuber did, and then figuring out if they like the game or not from there. I can't see many sticking around, so it would only be a source of immediate cash for Three Rings, and not too many people would stay.
However, if a Youtuber were to fall in love with the game, I can see more people coming and staying, especially if the Youtuber makes a guild for their channel.

Most youtubers who would make

Most youtubers who would make a video have done so before mist (when the game was newish) was removed, so many videos criticize that and they have driven people away.

Others who make videos after the update will be disappointed with the lack of variety from starter weapons, and will not play long enough to get something different. (they just assume that attacking and screaming at monsters is all you do and then whine when lumbers don't flinch and flatten their faces)

If any "famous" youtuber decides to make a video I hope they put in a month or two of play before making a judgmental video.

The game will get flooded

The game will get flooded with their autistic 7 year old fans (as if we don't have enough of them already in this game) and they will probably all stop playing and uninstall once they realize there hasn't been any real decent content update since what, a year ago? Not to mention they'll be turned off by the forge system anyway...

Oh by the way, Pewdiepie and Tobuscus both suck. There's far too many people on Youtube that put a lot of time and effort into their content and get <100 subscribers while those untalented morons put 45 minutes of editing MAX into each video of them acting like they own Youtube and what do they get? Millions of subs and enough money earned in a week to make a living for a few months. Disgusting, really.

This is rather odd...

People claim the game is dying, then turn around and hate on any large burst of new players that could potentially keep the game afloat by their definitions of "alive" and "dead".

The game wouldn't change. The community wouldn't change. The game would simply be more known.
Heck, if you had some head honcho that people almost religiously follow (A good example would be Notch or any other Minecraft developer/CM) merely mention that they're having fun with this game on their twitter page, you could expect a temporary influx of players that would eventually sort itself out for who stays and who goes.

People seem to forget that a loud minority is what we see and hear. You can see it here on the forums even, where more of that minority lingers. That isn't to say the loud minority is wrong, but it isn't exactly the most reliable source of the population.

Easier said than done.

The majority would jump on under the intention of playing together with the YouTube personality and jump right off again because the game wasn't to their liking. A select few might actually get into it, which would help, but unless said personality dedicates a lot of time and effort in bringing people in and, not to mention, keep them interested by organizing events dedicated to helping out players that joined for the personality so that they can actually progress in the game, it would be a very short-lived spurt of activity that would very quickly dissipate and die off as the personality moves on to bigger and greater things.

Showing the game off is only going to do so much. To get people invested they need to get them involved, which in turn requires them to drive the movement forwards themselves.

Lets not forget that the game is too grind heavy and uninteresting to make good lets play material. Even if most of these people did like Spiral Knights enough to do a lets play, it would likely get discontinued by way of the bit where people wouldn't want to watch it.

@Fehz, it would probably be more one-time content like a first impressions, review or game spotlight coverage than a Letsplay. Because yes, the game is horribly linear, repetitive and grindy.

As someone who's uploaded a few amount of Spiral Knights videos, I can say that there isn't much in terms of being able to provide entertaining content.
You'll occasionally get more interest (and as such, more views), when it comes to event exclusive stuff or newly released stuff. As opposed to, well, supposedly humorous moments .

OOO needs to release some pretty major updates (read: gunner update, rank mission expansion, arcade redux) before anything interesting is exploitable for YouTubers to draw in the kiddies' attention.

But who knows? Someone out there might just strike gold some day.
